This is one of our favorite spots to walk to on a, dare I say, weekend :-) We love the friendly service, delicious coffee and the clean atmosphere. The coffee is great. The pastries are tasty and they have dog treats too so our pup loves this place as well! I have been to places with rude staff before - but never have I been to a place where I could call the staff hostile or even threatening... that is, until I ordered coffee from Cafe Weekend. From the outside, Cafe Weekend looks like a cute little coffee bar; on the inside, the decor and just as cute and quint. There's also larger and more open area in the back with tables - the perfect place to have a coffee, take out the laptop and get to work. As for the coffee itself, it was okay. If I were to rate only the coffee, it would receive three out of the five stars. I would say that it's on par with Starbucks although it cost more. The reason I'm giving Cafe Weekend one star (I would give it none if I could) is entirely based on my experience with the staff. Before I even entered the cafe I noticed that the woman working there saw me coming in and looked bothered. As she was making my drink she didn't say a word to me. I looked on the bar area near the window for a newspaper and wound up seeing a business card for the woman making my drink (apparently she is an actress and singer). I figured her entertainment career would be a good topic of conversation to break the silence; though when I asked her about her acting and singing she gave a sigh and only offered one-word answers. The real trouble began when it came time to pay for the coffee. I took out the money to pay but then the woman pointed to a small sign on the counter and said that they do not accept cash. I was totally surprised. I didn't even know that businesses could reject "legal tender" from patrons. I told her that I did not have a card to use. Then her mood turned dark and her tone hostile and threatening; she told me that I needed to figure something out because she had already made the coffee. I told her that if they do not accept cash then I had no way of paying and that I would simply not purchase the coffee - to which she said that she already made the coffee and that I had to figure how I was going to pay for the cost of the cafe using up ingredients. I actually felt trapped. Never have I been in a coffee shop where I felt trapped and wanted to just dart out the door. After some back-and-forth with the woman, I took the cash, put it on the counter, took the coffee and told her to keep the change. Then I told her that if they were going to be a card only establishment, they should make it more obvious. Then she told me that I should open my eyes and told me that I am not welcomed there anymore. read more

This is not my favorite place--although sometimes my only real option due to the location of my office. It kind of embodies a lot of the snobbery associated with Seattle coffee shops--but the quality just doesn't measure up. The baristas are generally cold, and unfriendly (although I've seen them be friendly with other "cooler" customers). They can rarely answer my questions about the products they're selling, and act like its a burden that I'm asking a question at all. I do like the decor--but the experience is just always unpleasant enough that I don't go back for months, until I've forgotten how unpleasant my last experience is. The drinks are ok--better than SBUX for sure--not definitely not top-tier Seattle quality either. They way over-split my cold brew. Super watered down. Won't be doing that again. Be warned: the bagels are just Costco/bulk bagels... and they send you off with a packet of Philadelphia cream cheese and a floppy plastic knife when you order said Costco bagel. The quality isn't awesome--but it isn't terrible. I'd be a regular customer if they were just nicer. This is a pretty adorable coffee shop. They have a nice seating area in the back and have lots of cool books you can peruse or buy. I usually get an Americano and I believe they use Cafe Vita coffee beans. My friend tried a French press and loved it. We also tried their everything bagels and chocolate banana bread. Both tasted really good! Espresso drinks usually run between around $2-4. Their baked goods are also at decent price. However, you have to spend more than $5 if you use card. One time, the barista said I could just pay for a coffee for the next time I came in since I live in the area. Only downside to this place is that it's only open until 2pm everyday. read more

I enjoyed my soy chai latte (they can make it sweet, spicey or both) and love the fact that CW is only a 5 minute walk from my office. However the place is too small for my taste. Hours are limited. Current fall hours are Mon-Sat 8am to 3pm and Sun 9am to 3pm. The flipside is that it's local and its presence squashed into the not quite Rainier Valley/Central District area is a real sign of gentrification and readiness for art & change. To celebrate the upcoming Halloween holiday they've created a bar of treats for kids/adults to make a grab bag. Each item (candy, sticker, small toys) is 0.25cents. That is pretty cool! CW also markets itself as a book shop but all I saw was a small collection of graphic novel comics. read more

Super clean and quiet, this (very) hidden gem is located a block off of Rainier. I'm often found in spacious back room having meetings or planning a project. There are several large tables and nice meetings spaces. The ceilings are quite tall so it never feels cramped. The drinks are well priced, however to use a card (debit or otherwise) you have to make a minimum payment of $5.00, which always seems shady to me. I need to remember the cash. The service can be a bit surly and is not infrequently slow but the drinks once made are generally worth it. There isn't a huge amount in the realm of food - but what there is ... is good. So I think I'm a bit sour about this place because @ Cafe closed around the corner and I really miss it, so now I come here instead. Don't get me wrong, it's not BAD, but it's not great, either. I live in the apartments right next door so I stop in every now and then because it's convenient, but unfortunately I just don't really like it. For starters, the drinks and the food seem a bit overpriced (oh and there's a $5 minimum for credit/debit cards - lame - so bring cash if you want to avoid that) and I've never been all that happy with anything I've ordered. All the "vintage inspired" candy up front is cute, but again, a bit overpriced. There aren't many places to sit in the front, and I don't know anyone who would really want to leave their house to go sit in the back of a windowless coffee shop. Sadly it's sort of drab back there and a bit uninviting. Nice for meetings because of the large tables, sure, but not ideal. The main reason I don't like this place though is simply because their name is "Cafe Weekend" but they're only open until 2... Every day... Even on the weekends. They also have a permanent sign in their window that says, "Yes, we're open!" which always makes me roll my eyes since they're actually never open. Ha, so, overall, it's fine if you're in a bind and need something quick in the area (between the hours of 8-2) but it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit. read more

Café Weekend has an unlikely and almost hidden location but serves the freshest coffee I have ever tasted. Their French press coffee has a delicious flavor and body to it and an excellent beverage for any aspiring coffee connoisseur. All of their offerings are displayed in an organized and adorable fashion on chalkboards of all sizes around the small shop. There is even high-stool seating available which would have been perfect for people watching if I had the time to enjoy my coffee not on the go. This place is really nice! It looks small but there is so much going on (in a good way)! First off they have cute little jars of candy and toys you can pick out a few for a quarter! As for the staff she was very nice! Even said she liked my shirt! I order tea and it came in a cute set! All the food looked really good! This is a new must-try cafe, that will most likely become a regular stop once you make it in the first time! I had heard about the grand opening of Cafe Weekend from a friend, and I'm so happy that I was able to find it today! I know that it'll become a quick regular cafe for me, because I'm sick of only having Starbucks in this neighborhood. Cafe Weekend is unlike many of the coffee shops in this area of town--the style is kitschy and fun with tables and chairs that have a grade-school-like feel to them. One whole wall is blackboard style-- complete with chalk, while at the counter you'll find sweets like Pocky, Ding Dongs, and Chupa Chups that make you feel as though you're taking a trip down memory lane. As if that's not enough, the owners have sought out a special wagashi artisan that creates unique Japanese confections and delivers them to the cafe. They're amazing little pieces of art--and being that they're so difficult to find in Seattle, it's worth your while to stop by as often as possible just to see if they're in stock! While I was there, a woman came by and bought them all--whoa..hot commodity! There are other pastries and treats that are brought in from Le Fournil on Eastlake, and these appear to be equally tasty. So onto my coffee--a soy vanilla latte. This happens to be my drink of choice, so I definitely have had my fair share to compare it to. Not only did it come with a pretty little leaf design in the foam, but it was not at all bitter, or overly sweet, and was perfectly heated. I must have gulped the thing down in three swigs, because I found myself wishing I hadn't drank it so fast. This is a big plus. After speaking with the owner, I found that they are really working on creating a bigger sense of community in the area, and are interested in bringing more of the arts to the adjoining artspace. This place is a great little hidden gem in the Jackson place/ ID neighborhood. I love the clean space, the fun decor, and most of all coffee they serve is great. I especially enjoy hanging out in the back space since they opened that back area up. You can tell that the owner takes a lot of love and care into setting that place up, running the cafe, and is committed in building the community. They organize a lot fun events through out the year like block parties, flea markets, open studios, and holiday/seasonal events. It reminds me a lot of cute hidden cafes in Japan, which are usually the best and feels really special. read more

I want to make Café Weekend my home away from home. The café was started by two graphic designers, and they did a fabulous job curating all the unique and wonderful décor that ornaments the space. What I love most about the café is that it serves Caffé Vita and not Stumptown. I must be the only coffee drinker in Seattle that is not a Stumptown fan. I find it really ironic that a place with the word "Weekend" in their name ISN'T open on a sunday.... I stopped by on a Saturday morning to get a quick iced mocha. 2 hipsters were behind the counter and one woman was making an order. I was barely given any attention. No hello, nothing. I could tell it was the barista's first week there because the cashier had to teacher how to make my drink. My mocha was super bitter :( I like the decorations of the cafe, but it screams HIPSTER.
