We sat at the bar seating area so we could all sit together. The food was actually really good. Because we all ate different amounts, we kept track of our sticks and plates so each person could pay only for what they ate. That's not unreasonable. That's just basic fairness. We asked for 4 separate bills. The waiter said he couldn't do it and got the manager. The manager also said he couldn't do it. Then he threatened to call the police. Over a bill. In front of an 8-year-old, who ended up crying. All because we wanted to pay correctly. Then, after we took the time to add up what each of us owed, the manager came over and did exactly what we asked: he added up each pile of sticks separately, presented a single bill, and took 4 separate payments. So it wasn't impossible. He just chose to make a scene, humiliate a family, and frighten a child. The food may be good, but no meal is worth this level of incompetence and hostility. If you're a group, especially with kids, go somewhere that understands basic hospitality. One star only because zero isn't possible.

Our waitress was a totally charming young lady who put up with our questions in broken Spanish and Catalan (think French, speak Spanish). We had bowl of deep fried txiperones (baby squid) that was perfect, a salad with a fried slab of goat cheese, walnuts, sunflower seeds and pepitas And fried eggplant with blue cheese and honey (the star of the night). A couple of glasses of the house white and a guy wearing a Nirvana t-shirt playing flamenco guitar made for a perfect evening.

The inside is small and narrow, but has plenty of tables in the plaza outside. I opted for a seat at the bar. The bartender/manager(?) was VERY friendly and patient with my lack of Spanish. Eventually I was able to communicate to him to just order whatever 4 tapas he thought were the best and any beer that wasn't an IPA. Ended up with the patatas allioli dall negre, croquettes iberic, pop a la gallega, and fruita patata brie. All of the dishes I enjoyed, but my favorites were the Patatas bravas and pop a la gallega. Patatas were cooked perfect, the allioli was rich and flavorful, a nice variation of the patatas bravas. The pop a la gallega was incredible!! In America, I usually get octopus in chirashi bowls at sushi restaurants, and they've always been chewy, rubbery filler items. Here, the octopus was very tender, the whole dish was an absolute incredible balance of flavors and textures. If I came back to Barcelona again I would definitely try and come out to Premià de Mar just to visit this restaurant again! I regret not being able to find time to come back a second time during my trip.

Tonight we want a change from the hotel and elected to catch a cab into Figueres to dine at Sidreria Txots Figueres. We want a town restaurant and to explore the area. 15 minute taxi ride and we arrived in Figueres at Sidreria Txots for dinner. The place has EDM music and feels like a hip, young person spot. We got a window table to people watch and perused the menu. The Iberico ham croquetts were first with a perfect crunch, soft and savory inside. The mango, pickled onions, stracciatella cheese and lettuce salad had a lime dressing. The flavors were bold, crispy and sweet with mango. An enjoyable treat. Our next selection was the calamari a la planca that was perfectly grilled, drizzled with olive oil and lightly salted. It had a good taste, not overcooked and great charred marks. This was another good choice. Our final selection was the 1/2 grilled pulpo a la braso octopus. This was a huge helping for only one half of an octopus. It was good, just a large portion. The staff was very helpful with the English menu and answering questions. They directed us to where the town square was and the super market. Sidreria Txots Figueres was a decent stop but more of a younger, hipper spot than a quiet relaxing environment. The food was still good. It appears with the crowd dining there that Txots is here to stay.
