I went there with a large group of friends. The staff was very accommodating. They greeted us, sat us down quickly and had two pitchers of both white and red sangrias both we knew it. I stuck to the white sangria which was so tasty and refreshing. It was made with cava so not over sweet with the right amount of fruit. Btw, ask what the secret ingredient is ;) The was awesome. They brought out plates with local slice bread brushed with a tomato olive oil which was good. Then came the tapas. We ordered two: mussels and the local dried meat and cheese platter. The mussels were amazing. So fresh and perfectly cooked. As usual with mussels there is always sauce/juice on the plate that they were cook in.. it was so good when you take your bread and dipped it in. You want a bowl of that juice just for that. The slice meat platter I thought every piece was good. Some of my party didn't like the dried blood sausage or liver wurst but they all love the Iberian ham, salamis and manchego cheese. We did want to try the chicken they had roasting in the front "window" but the group had chicken for lunch. It a must go place!

Outside La Roda. The the sight and smell of the chicken behind the red wheel is what caught our attention to eat here.

Same great service and same outstanding food. We ordered the chickpeas, razor clams, pork cheeks, calamari and beans and octopus. Everything was fresh and delicious. Will definitely be back again.

As the kind gentleman mentioned, La Boqueria was just too busy and this smaller market had a better pace for Pinotxo. They have a counter with 10 bar stools and open kitchen format with food displayed at the counter. I can see seating becoming a premium as the day progresses. I arrived shortly after they opened and already there were 3 customers ordering Cafe Con Leches and Xuxos. I did the same with my Xuxo to go. I saw they had Octopus Galician style and despite the am hour couldn't resist. Pinotxo's version was very good-that said, I've had more tender Octopus. Definitely a Tapa size and pricey for the portion but gave me my fix for one of my favorite dishes before leaving Barcelona. I saw Tripe and Beef cheeks on the menu and asked one of the servers which one? She gave me a look of "I can't decide"meaning can't go wrong with either. Ordered the Beef cheeks as I've never had it. Rich, decadent and definitely not a breakfast meal-I liked it! I was told the white cubes were collagen and not fat. Definitely a dish to try. Cafe Con Leche was excellent! The Xuxo (one of Jose Andres's favorites) was amazing! Like a donut, a little bit of flakiness of a croissant and filled with this rich, delicious Crema and as if that wasn't enough coated with sugar. We loved it! One of those delicacies that sells out early. Service was engaged and friendly from all of the people behind the counter. They are located inside the Market at one of the corners (Tamarit/Urgell) before the exit. Make this stop for Xuxos and some delicacies you won't find at your typical spots in the area.

I don't know if it's just me as an American or what, but the temperatures of the foods was my only "complaint" per se. Some of the tapas I thought would be hot were lukewarm at best. So, I'll have to try more places to just see what's normal for Spain.

Pair it all with a cold Estrella and you've got yourself a 5-star winner! I loved the fun learning curve here: grab a plate, pick whatever pintxos catch your eye, and keep the toothpicks (of all shapes and sizes!) so your total can be tallied at the end. Some toothpicks were just holding things together -- I had to laugh at that -- but it's all part of the charm and experience. La Tasqueta was so good that we came back a few days later for another round, only to find it temporarily closed due to a plumbing issue. Sadly, we couldn't wait since we'd already hiked all over Montjuïc earlier that day. We tried another pintxo place down the block -- it was okay, but honestly, not even close to the same level. This place is amazing -- friendly, fun, and absolutely delicious. Sit inside and be dazzled by the colorful pintxos lined up along the counter, or grab a spot outside under an umbrella and watch the world go by. Loved this place... 5 stars all the way!
