The Pain au Chocolat was also great but it could have used more chocolate for my liking. The Chausson aux Pommes was sweet, slightly acidic from the apples, and definitely heavier of the pastries. I've also never had fresh madeleines before and knew this would be the place to try them. The Madeleine Glacée were buttery and lightly sweet; these actually go so well with a cup of coffee or just a bite if you need a quick snack. All in all, great try!

For some reason the French while adopting the brunch concept have decided that offering a midday breakfast over the weekend deserves to charge 3-4x the cost of a normal meal. The cafe itself is well appointed and thoughtfully laid out with both outdoor seating as well as a single row of tables which lead to a room at the end of the aisle which seems to hold larger groups. The staff seated us straightaway and we were given a rundown on the menu. Basically you get all you can drink tea and coffee as well as scrambled eggs and a choice of either beef carpaccio or smoked salmon and a dessert for 16 euros. Also you're provided a basket of mini baked goods like croissant, pain au chocolate and other goodies. Food was delivered with little wait as well the portions for the salmon (which I chose) was enormous. After finishing, I didn't want to look at food again for another eight or nine hours. Although while I did wait for the brunch to arrive I have to say I looked at the menu and overall the prices were extremely reasonable, if I lived in the area I would be a regular customer. If you find yourself in the area, do make an effort to stop by, great staff and wonderful price on food and drinks.

But it was the reviews and feedback that cemented it as a "must do" for me. We managed to get a resy at this tiny (22 seats), lunch-only, Mon-Fri only, Mom and Pop shop. And it lived up to the accolades. Super-vibrant Moko Hirayama greeted and seated us. She's an ex-NYC lawyer and amateur baker turned professional baker, plus front of house wizard. Back in the miniscule open kitchen we saw her husband, Omar Koreitem, furiously finishing prep and start to cook at 12 noon sharp, all with just one other staffer. By the way, this Japanese - Lebanese couple just released a fabulous, beautiful cookbook (Mokonuts, Phaidon Press)... and it tells the story better than I can here. Suffice to say - highest recommendation - order it today! On our visit in November, my wife and I ordered almost the entire lunch menu, small by design, but absolutely terrific from start to finish.
