That love-filled service gave me time to observe customer interactions and staff activity. That only enhanced my love for Yaw! The flow of coffee preparation is unique to any shop I've ever been in. Staff take such great care in preparing each order and communicating with customers. Do you see a trend here? I was already falling for Yaw before I ever took my first sip of coffee. Got Butterscotch Creme Brulee which was ok--Not that sweet, I came home and added caramel syrup to sweeten it up but I also know it was a crapshoot so... I do like that they have new flavors every month and I love the random idea... but I do not think it was dairy free... The turnout was excellent--during the lesson, the place was packed shoulder-to-shoulder, with dancers filling every available inch of floor space. Afterward, a live jazz band took the stage and kept the energy high. The night was genuinely fun, with swing in the air and a lively, nostalgic atmosphere. It did get quite warm inside, but a couple of fans helped keep the air circulating. On regular nights, I understand Coffee Note shifts to a more relaxed open jazz jam session--perfect for sitting at a table with a drink and soaking in the sounds of America's musical past. I love Blue Bottle Coffee and typically have a great experience with both the coffee and the customer service, which is why today's interaction was so disappointing. I ordered my coffee and asked to add cold foam on top, something I've ordered before at this location as well as at multiple other coffee shops throughout the valley. I was simply told, "No, we can't do that unless it's iced," with no explanation as to why. I explained that I was confused because I've had this exact request accommodated before, but instead of offering an explanation or an alternative, the cashier just repeated, "We can't do that." When I mentioned that it didn't really make sense given that it had been done for me previously, I was met with essentially a blank stare and the same response again. I work in hospitality myself, and what bothered me more than not getting the cold foam was the way the situation was handled. There are going to be times when a request genuinely can't be accommodated, but simply telling a customer "no" repeatedly without an explanation, an alternative, or even an attempt to help is poor customer service. This was also a very simple modification that I was more than happy to pay an additional charge for, and one that I've received before. Even if there is a new policy preventing it, a simple explanation would have made the interaction completely different. I still love Blue Bottle's coffee, but today's customer service was definitely disappointing and not what I've come to expect from this location.

We came in around 8:40pm and was planning on taking pictures but the staff was NOT warm or friendly. They seemed to be annoyed customers were coming in ordering food and drinks. I showed my ticket for a free coffee and asked if I can get a special coffee and pay the difference. I got a stern NO. So, I said ok, forget the ticket and just give me a Carmel Macchiato. I also ordered a pastry. My friend asked if they could have a small Hot Chocolate and if they can use the free drink for that since they were the same price. Another stern NO from the girl and the guy said they are not allowed, that they have gotten in trouble before for doing that? Really? Same size, same price just milk and chocolate instead of coffee?? So my friend just ordered a pastry to take home to have with a glass of milk. It's a nice looking place but after the way the staff acted and no flexibility, I won't go back. The Carmel macchiato was not bad. The pastries were ok. For as much business that they get, not being customer friendly is very petty.
