From Chicago, had the breakfast buffet at CdL this morning. Here are my thoughts: -If you like choices, this is the buffet for you. Everything you can imagine. -One of the best meals I've had in a Mexican restaurant anywhere over the past 3 months. -I had scrambled eggs and toppings like pico de gallo and onions and cilantro, with salsa verde--fresh and eggcellent! -Also had the mango, carrot, orange juice, which was out of this world! -Fresh fruit--melons, pineapple, and grapefruit--were delicious! -Tried a churro with carmel--so good! The restaurant overlooks a lake and is surrounded by a lush tropical vegetation. Sometimes you're greeted by the creatures living within it. Across the distance, you can see the Flamingo sanctuary. I've eaten here a number of times for breakfast during each of my stays and had dinner on theme nights. Reservations are a must for events as they fill quickly! The breakfast buffet is SO good! The amount of food is plentiful. There are so many different stations available; salad bar, waffles/crepes/donuts/churros station, yogurts/cereals/puddings, fruit & vegetable stations, smoked salmon and fixings, cheese, egg station, Mexican specialties (quesadillas, burritos, etc), lunch meats, breads and pastries, hot plate selection and so much more for both breakfast and brunch. Can't ask for a better assortment. The selection of fruit offered is what's in season. I ate a lot of watermelon, papaya, honeydew, guava and grapefruit during my last visit. The Guava was heavenly! I already miss it.. With covid, employees take special care to serve you. They're masked on top of their respective uniforms and protective wear. Food is shielded by plexiglass barriers and only attendants at each station handles the food. Plates are provided at those stations with the exception of a patron handing theirs over, in which case it is received by an attendant, topped with choice of food and handed back. Attendants all wear gloves. Beverages are also provided by servers and whomever is assigned to your table. Ask to try their juices of the day. They're fresh and delicious! My favourites were the green juice, papaya, orange and carrot and a vegetable-fruit mix with beets. Sooooo good! Found it to be very hydrating in hot Mexican weather. There's an early bird special with a Vida card that runs from 7:15-8:15am Sundays through Thursdays where you receive a 25% discount. Averages out to $18 USD/pp and on Fridays and Saturdays, they offer a 2 for 1 breakfast special between 11am and 12pm. Walk-ins only. Capitalize on that, it's worth it! I frequently indulged during breakfast, eating a 5 course meal in one sitting and was never hungry throughout the day, even with walking all over the property. Best bang for your buck! read more

We ate here for breakfast on three consecutive days. They offered a buffet with a large offering of items ranging from breakfast to lunch foods. They had your usual omelet and waffle stations, fruit, and pastries, but what I enjoyed most were the Mexican dishes and the churros. cochina pibil, barbacoa, chilaquiles, burritos, fajitas, and plantains. The dining room was very spacious and we found the service to be very attentive. Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, and bacon...yes, bacon had to be ordered from the waitstaff. We were fortunate to have a coupon that offered us a discount on the buffet if we arrived between 7:15-8:15 am. We went during that hour on two occasions and that ended up being a perfect time to go. The ambiance is awesome, the service is great and the food is wonderful. I have come 3 times and every day is different. Awesome tasting food and Jesus has taken care of us. The cochinita pibil is my favorite as well as the quesadillas and empanadas. Great variety and something for everyone. You can't go wrong at all. We will be returning for Mexican Fiesta on Thursday night and will post later how that goes. In the meantime give this place a try. Worth not having to go out of the resort for breakfast even though it can get pricey if you drink. Come try it out at least once. read more

This food was amazing!! Saw that it was buffet style and my inner fat girl danced her butt off!! Lol. Then it quickly switched to concern because there's a pandemic. Those concerns died quickly. The place is super clean and they have great covid procedures in place. The servers make all of your plates and you only touch it once it's handed to you. They have a large variety of food!! Breakfast, dinner, dessert, the works! We were told to try this juice that had orange juice, pineapple juice and beets. Wasn't sure what to expect but this was really good! You can tell it was super fresh by the texture. Ordered papaya justice as well. So these plates....they were massive. I put any and everything these plates. I liked the food on for sure. And yes.....I went back for seconds! No shame in my game!! They have an omelet station, as well as a French toast station. Everything I tried was delicious! read more

My family came to Cafe del Lago for a breakfast buffet. The place was super cute, overseeing a lake and adorned with Mexican decor. There were also plenty of food options - a quesadilla bar, omelette bar, waffle/French toast bar, as well as hot plates of eggs, Mexican style meats, potatoes, a wide selection of pastries and breads, and much more. Juices are also included. We tried all 3 different options and they were all super fresh. The service was also great. Overall, my family really enjoyed our breakfast here and we will be coming back throughout our stay. read more

The buffet breakfast that keeps giving. I ate breakfast here after a 4 mile walk and what a great idea. The stewed salmon, beef tips, and hot chocolate hit the spot. I wouldn't recommend the black corn mushroom quesadilla. I am still trying to figure out what black corn is exactly. The fruit is sweet like sugar and the servers are attentive. Make sure you check the Vidanta app for the discount. read more

Buffet here at the Grand Mayan resort. Next to a lagoon... ergo Lago Still water lagoon mosquito and big fly was eating me instead of me eating food. Most uncomfortable experience. Worst, the shrimp cook was broiling the shrimp then sauté in a chipotle sauce... resulting in 1/3 size from start. Jerky dry shrimp. Tried to tell him, no hablo English Rest of the buffet was just meh. No saffron in the paellae... so it didn't taste like paellae. Grill asada should have been cut up by chef as knives was underserving the job. Juicy but chewy. No drink refill or even asked Auto tipped without any choice Spend the rest of evening on the throne with diarrhea... and stomach pain with regrets. 570 peso... gone read more

For a breakfast buffet some may say "overpriced" but up in Cancun I have stayed at places where breakfast buffet is $35 and this one is only $22? The service was good and I loved the beet juice. They made a great omelette and there was a meat carving station. They had a good selection of Mexican breakfast offerings but I would have loved to have more authentic tasty items. read more

For a buffet, it gets high marks. We have ordered just about everything these past few days. So here are some tips Omelette's are good but they will put a LOT of cheese in them if you don't specifically ask for less cheese. Same with toppings for French toast and pancakes. You can get eggs to order at the omelette station (over easy, medium, hard) Bacon must be ordered. It is included but it is fresh for your table. The workers explained old bacon gets greasy/soggy in a steam warmer. The bacon was very good. No salt and pepper shakers are on the tables so ask for them if you need them Juices are awesome- my faves are orange juice and green juice. All are fresh made! Water is in juice glasses. Delivery of water, juice and coffee to your table is sort of random. They may bring a lot of juice-forget the coffee and water. They never really bring enough water. Service is good. Place is very clean. Food is fresh. Watch for the falconers. They keep the grackles (big black birds) away. Very cool! read more

We were staying at Mayan Palace and decided to try out the buffets at the resort. The Lago is the only Buffet at the resort. On Saturday we decided to go check out "Grill Night", that's what they call it, they serve Pork Chops, Rib Eye and Skirt Steaks. My fave was the skirt steaks, I had them cook it medium and it was quite tender. They also served your usual, 5 different fresh fruits, salads and 3 different sopes. read more

I've been here twice now for the breakfast, and I have to say, what a feast! I was really impressed with the spread. The hospitality is top-tier, which is expected for Vidanta properties. I recommend getting whatever the special juice is, since it switches up every day, and I personally like to grab some hot chocolate or coffee to go with it. The spread is almost always magnificent, and it's right on the water, which can give you a wonderful view if you sit close. Birds are usually flying about and coming inside the resturaunt, which can be a bad thing if you're not a fan. read more

I was in love with café del lago in paurta vallarta. I'm riviera maya it was not good. The location is small and it was insanely crowded I couldn't even walk through it. When I got there it seemed they had taken out all of the good food. The food I had was mediocre at best. Except the roasted turkey was very good. The scrambled eggs in the big pot were better than my custom made omelette. There are not free mimosas and drinks at this buffet which was a big disappointment coming from the nueve Vallarta location. I think I have to go again for the marketing talk and I am not really looking forward to it. read more

This is an all you can eat breakfast buffet at the Vidanta resort in the Riviera (at least we were told they only sold dinner buffets in Thursday's). The food is good, and there is a wide variety. Everything is listed in Spanish and English, so you know what you are eating. It is ridiculously expensive, but that's what you get when staying at a resort in the middle of no where. The food is good, but walk ways are small and sometimes hard to get through. They do offer a show with dinner, from what we were told. I don't think we'll be coming back for that though. read more

The reason I am giving this place one star is because of the absolutely way below average customer service we experienced. The staff here is so devoid of knowledge of customer service that they are seriously in need of training in what it is to actually be part of a potentially successful restaurant within a hotel/resort. You are at a resort on vacation. Bringing your phone with you is not something that most people do if they want to chill out and if they know they're going to go right to the pool after eating. We went to try it because we found that for US$22 a person, this is very expensive for a breakfast buffet. There was a deal on their app for 25% off for their 45th year anniversary for breakfast buffet between 7:15 AM to 8:30 AM. We get there at 8 AM and are told that we cannot get the 25% discount because we did not bring the phone to show the app. We were not even offered the option to bring our phone back after we eat and they can then give us the 25% discount. How else would we know about the app? So disappointed and I'm so disgusted. We felt relieved though after we spoke to some people staying at the resort who said the food there was just awful. read more

We went for the "Mexican Fiesta Night" and had a buffet dinner. Food was good, there was a large selection to choose from and it all tasted good. We're not really buffet diners but I was surprised that everything tasted fresh and the service kept everything well stocked at the buffet line. Our waiter was right there every time we needed anything. Desserts were quite good for buffet food and the cinnamon sugar churros were amazing as well as the rice pudding. The Mariachi band was really great to listen to as well as the traditional mexican singer, and the dancers were fun to watch. It can get extremely warm inside without a breeze since its an "open to the outside" concept dining place, dress casual and comfortable if its hot and/or humid. read more
