X278 Bar & Grill - Raimund Marasigan's new band, Assembly Generals.

There are quite a few bars along Aguirre Avenue in BF Homes but this one is the only decent one…read morewith live bands playing. And by that, I mean that they're the only ones that don't have show bands playing every night (although it's fun watching now a show band once in awhile.) Just like most bars, Red Ninja has had events here too. Beer is cheap and I've heard that burgers and ribs are good here, though I have yet to try it. Parking can be difficult, but there's always a spot somewhere along the street. Sound system isn't as good as everywhere else but the bar just has this chill vibe to it that you wouldn't really mind a so-so sound system. Everyone is just happy and loving what they're hearing. There's a beer pong table in the air conditioned area where I've seen a few people make beautiful friendships too. It's a bar for young people and those young at heart.

I went to X-278 Bar with no idea about what it was like; it was just one of those places that I would see filled with people whenever I would drive along Aguirre. I came in there last night, looking like a "tita" in a crowd filled with girls and boys radiating a strong, youthful glow and ordered a rhum coke with a fellow "tita" friend. The music was pretty good, a bit emo that evening but nonetheless entertaining. I love that there's now a new bar 10 minutes from where I live, with live music, trinkets sold on the side and cheap drinks.

This Tides branch is a little bit more upscale than its counterparts in Mandaluyong, Pasig, and…read moreQuezon City. It doesn't have the party garage feel that the others do, but those looking to drink and converse may appreciate the fact that the drinks are the same but the place is quieter. Make no mistake however; the place still thrives in the night life. There's an al fresco area that leads to a beer pong table. The interiors feature long tables and lively music that's conducive to a fun, vibrant, evening atmosphere. The joint is always filled with laughter, conversation, and healthy ribbing. The servers are very social and confident; they will suggest Tides' best menu items, and they won't be wrong. I love their Soco shake, which is essentially a mudslide in ground ice form and served in a plastic jug with a nozzle. You squeeze the drink into shot glasses, and it's sweet, fun, and shareable. Drink with caution though! The drinks are sweet, but the alcohol is just as potent in every one of them.

I've honestly never been to a Tides before in my life, though I do hear about it all the time. I've…read morestepped into one in the ABS-CBN area, and it looked vast and okay and fine, but when they told us they couldn't let some of my friends in because they were wearing slippers, I was like, "Wow, really? At THIS place?" I finally got the opportunity to actually sit and have a drink at one in their Paranaque branch, which is the originating Tides branch, I believe. The place was packed, but it did look great--I like the whole idea of turning a big house into a bar or restaurant, so I liked how everything was. I guess the place had a looser dress code, since there were a lot of people in their flip-flops just having a gas of a good time around their wooden tables lit by paper-bagged candles. The waiter was very peppy and gung-ho at selling us their two-drink set with a plate of munchies, which we weren't entirely sure of. We just got one Soco shake to start with, which turned out for the best since their drinks apparently have a great kick of alcohol in them, despite the innocent squeeze bottle they use and the drink's misleading sweetness. We didn't get to try anything else after that. If you like your drinks with a great buzz, I guess this is the place to have them. The experience will be forever marred by their men's bathroom lacking a door though. I can take a gross bathroom (and it was kinda gross), but I do appreciate a little privacy, even if I'm just using the urinal. I'm friendly, but not *that* friendly. I guess if you're drunk enough you wouldn't care--I probably needed more alcohol at the time then.

Let me preface this with some honesty: I go to Black Market, its next door neighbor, a lot…read more Wednesday's are my favorite for this reason, but Finders Keepers is a lot better when it's not Wednesday. Situated in a nondescript warehouse in a less glamorous part of Makati is probably one of the coolest speakeasies I've been to in the Metro. The ambiance is dark, moody even, and they play a lot of progressive electro house most times I've been there. This isn't your typical bar where the standards are available and the bartender looks like your dad's pare. The bartenders here are definitely serious mixologists and there's no drink here I haven't enjoyed. There's a good selection of imported beers here, though I would like to see more local filipino craft here since the only local beer option is San Miguel Extra Dry unfortunately. Come here to chill with friends and let off some steam. They also offer food selections from their other neighbor, Joe's Meat Shack. If I'm not looking to go crazy on my few nights off and I'm looking for some straight chill, Finders Keepers is definitely a keeper for me.

In fact, when I was taking a photo of this sign, I was part of a firing range of people along the bar trying to get the same shot. It's hard not to. Statemently emblazoned in orange-red on the wall of this dimly-lit room in a warehouse hidden from mainstream Makati (to some, the all-encompassing word to describe the place may be "hipster"), it is a sign of things to find and keep: good music (from rock to electro to even jazz on Sundays), good vibe, good cocktails (love their F+K Sour!), good company, good times!
