I have been craving this ALL DAY. I woke up thinking about it. Now it's 9pm and still can't stop thinking about it. I think it's time to go back and order the entire menu. Met up with my fellow Yelpers for a Happy Hour event (shout out to Joey R. For an AMAZINGGG time) and this was home base. Finding this place was difficult, but it contributes to it being a "diamond in the rough!" Ambiance: C (average) very small and quaint restaurant. Really cool art on the wall. Because it's so small, I would consider it a place to just dine and dash (other patrons in the restaurant have he ability to hear your conversation). Customer service: B Can't say much because we didn't interact with the workers - but from what we saw, it was good. FOOD: A+++++ Bread is so crunchy. Huge portions. Meat is totally juicy and flavorful. We had the Pepe Cubano and the Pollo Cubano. I have no words to describe the ecstasy that I felt during the first bite. Perfect amount of spice and flavor. This is the sandwich place that the Philippines needs. WILL BE BACK!

Pepi Cubano has been serving Cubanos since 2006 as a delivery service from their Dian St., Makati location. I'm surprised that it isn't bigger than it is, but I suppose it's because the owners aren't willing to sacrifice pricing for quality. And quality is what you get - even if the sandwiches are, apparently, prepared offsite, then grilled to order at this cozy, stylish, mini-store location. There's Latin-Brazilian music playing, there are colorful posters, and a vintage audiophile nook - too bad this isn't a bar with beer and cocktail mixes. In the future, perhaps? In the meantime, the sandwiches are solid. We tried two - the classic Pepi Cubano and the Pan de Bistec. The Pepi is straightforward, tasting of ham, sweet mustard and pickles, while the Pan de Bistec is a flattened cheese steak sandwich, more or less. We could have these every day for a light lunch or dinner; they're that good. This is a restaurant that's easy to miss. It's on the one-way-the-wrong-way of Gallardo St., if you're driving, when the more visible restaurants are on the right side of Tropical Palms Building (Mom & Tina, Ba Noi), on the Perea side. Walk past the initial road curve and you'll see it immediately.

Delicious, but maybe not worth 250 Php.

I'm a sucker for a well-made sandwich. Especially if it's heavy-handed on the meat, pickles and cheese. Enter the Cubano, a sandwich that shot to fame when the movie Chef came out. I still have to watch it, though I digress. A Cubano is traditionally made with bread that's kind of like a cross between a sub and a panini, stuffed with specially-marinated pork, ham, mustard, cheese and pickles: basically, all things I love in a sandwich. When I got wind of Pepi Cubano opening a branch in Legazpi Village, I knew I had to go and try one for myself. I finally did, and I must admit, the 250 Php I paid for it didn't get me very far. I'm not saying it wasn't delicious, because it totally was. My eyes rolled back to the very end of my skull upon first bite. However, The sandwich wasn't optimally stuffed with a lot of meat, and had very few pickles. A good sandwich must be overflowing with ingredients, in my opinion. So that's where Pepi Cubano falls flat. Their Pan de Guyaba, a sandwich made with cream cheese and guava paste, was delicious, too. The cheese was melt-y and the sandwich was hot, and the combination of sweet, sour and salty flavors was nice and mellow on my tongue. Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of dining there at the same time as a huge entourage, a family complete with screaming toddlers. The acoustics of Pepi Cubano are shitty, so the toddler's agonized screams were like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. That aside, Pepi Cubano is worth a try and is really good. But I'm not entirely sure it's worth my 250 Pesos.

Ever since I saw the movie Chef (2014), I had those golden buttery Cubano sandwiches on my mind. Enter Pepi Cubano, a little self-service sandwich shop in the middle of Makati CBD. The store had a huge glass window painted with a red "PEPI CUBANO," teasing passersby of its cute, simple Latin American-inspired interiors. Wooden counter tables and barstools, colorful paintings with a Cuban vibe lined the white walls, and their handwritten menu--a blackboard updated or rewritten daily by an old-man calligrapher. My heart tingled at the experience. We ordered the Chorizo, Bistek and their classic Cubano sandwiches. Boy was all of it good. The buns were fried to a perfect crisp on the outside but with just the right balance of soft and hard on the inside. Each sandwich had a generous helping of the meat which never failed to stand out in every bite. My friend thought it would be great to have fries or chips served on the side, but I thought it wouldn't be close to the authentic Cubano experience that way. Plus, I figured the place was meant to be a takeout counter for people on-the-go, just like the food trucks and sandwich stalls in the US. The price range is arguably expensive especially for a mere sandwich, but I'd still happily treat myself one for the quality and taste, especially for days I'm feeling splurgy on merienda.

One of the things I miss the most about living back in Florida is the extremely easy access to Hispanic pastries and food. When I heard about this new Cuban place opening I had to try it to help soothe some of the homesickness. The shop is cozy. Situated on Gallardo in what feels like a hidden alleyway, it actually feels authentic. Cuban food back in Florida is something that's meant to be enjoyed by all for the most part, and the neighborhood feel of the restaurant definitely was the perfect ambiance for the star: Cuban food. The menu is a bit short and you order at the counter and they'll serve you after by calling your number. I ended up getting the classic Pepi Cubano (₱250) while my friend got the Pan de Pollo (₱200). I know that's a bit steep for local standards for a sandwich but this sandwich is authentic. Down to the Kuya pressing down to the contents of my Pepi Cubano, just like you would see in Tampa. It definitely satisfied my Cuban craving and made me miss home a little more. Was it the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had? Nah. But it was definitely a good sandwich. The amount of pickle, ham, and roast pork was the right amount it should be with the right seasoning too. Cuban sandwiches aren't meant to be hulking monstrosities like the subs of Subway and Quiznos. I would've wanted a bit tangier of a mustard but it still wasn't bad. Lastly, the sandwich came out piping hot which I really appreciated but I I feel as though the bread was a bit more buttered than I would've liked but still not a deal breaker. I'll definitely be back to try their other sandwiches!

I expected more with Pepi Cubano. My Cubano craving was not satiated. Still looking for a great cubano place in Manila.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses…read more Meet Cubanos Fil-Cuban Cantina, a fusion of well-loved Filipino dishes and Cuban cuisine that you rarely see in a restaurant. I don't have much idea about Cuban cuisine except that it's a distant cousin of Mexico and they are known for their Cuban sandwiches. That alone gave me a reason to be excited about it. The highlights of our dining experience were the following: 1) GOOD MORNING CUBA - This is their take on the famous Philippine sisig. Homemade chorizo cooked in sisig style was drizzled with sour cream on top, served with sunny side eggs, salsa, soft flour tortilla on the side. By itself, it tasted just like a plain, grounded chorizo with egg. However, when everything was mixed and wrapped in the tortilla, it tasted amazingly delicious. This comforting dish can also be ordered with rice instead of the soft flour tortilla.2) LEMON PEPPER WINGS - Seven pieces of wings glazed with lemon butter sauce served with garlic aioli mayo (pepper) sauce on the side. It might look dry but it was actually a bit oily which was unnecessarily a bad thing. The lemon flavor was prevalent in the crispy and juicy chicken but the sourness was just right. Dipping it in the garlic aioli sauce though cancels out the lemon flavor. 3) CLASSIC CUBAN - It is roasted pork farmer's ham, pickles, Swiss cheese, and cheddar cheese on Cuban bread, served with fries on the side. The sandwich tasted sweet and savory with some sharpness because of the yellow mustard. I liked the way the melted cheese was mixed with the meat. 4) HALF RACK FIDEL'S CUBAN RIBS- These babies are tender pork ribs smothered with sweet and spicy sauce served with corn and rice. Between the two flavors, I would say that this is more spicy than sweet. The sauce is more or less the same sauce that was used on the ribs themselves. Overall, the ribs taste delicious and is a really good value for money dish. Overall, Cubanos with its new fusion cuisine is a great bang for the buck restaurant. What you may also want to know is that Cubanos is not only a great hang out place at night, but it can also be a good place for a heavy lunch. Yes, Cubanos is open for lunch. We'll definitely come back to try out some of their other dishes that piqued our curiosity specifically the Bulgogi Cubano and Liempo ni Gringo.

I've never tried a Cubano before but the film sold it so well that I got so curious. I heard that a restaurant down in the South offered a Cubano that was worth a try and I decided that I wanted to try it out. Man, oh man, was I not disappointed. I was incredibly satisfied, actually. When the Classic Cubano was put in front of me, I was so ready to demolish it, manners be damned! The image of the layers of pork, cheese, jalapeno, and ham together were enough to satisfy my craving but of course, nothing beats the taste. The pork may taste dry at first but then when you continue to bite in and taste the rest, you realize why it's the way it is. The last kick of jalapeno definitely brought it home. It was everything I hoped to be and then some. The next I tasted was another burger, but this time it was two grilled cheese sandwiches with a beef patty between it. That burger is literally gluttony in food form. The grilled cheese was delicious but the whole thing honestly felt like too much for the palette. But still, with
