tl;dr : It should be a crime to visit Copenhagen without visiting Grød…read more Wide variety of sweet and savory porridges fit for all meals. Pea porridge and oat porridge are must haves! Delicious cup of Cortado to wash it down. *** The long read *** This restaurant has taken a simple ingredient and elevated it to another level. It's a small place but one that deserves all your attention. Ambience: You'll see the outside seating with a sign up top reading 'Grød'. A hustle and bustle of people outside on any day will let you know that you're at the right place. On weekends the line extends outside but it's a fast moving one. They have seating both inside and outside. You order at the counter and take your coffee to the table along with the order number. Food is brought to you. The inside seating is across 2 rooms which gives a feeling of an old school apartment converted into a cafe. They have free wifi so don't forget to check in and upload your grams! Food : They offer a host of sweet and savory porridge options. Here's a breakdown of some of my favorites. Oat porridge : Grød with fresh cut apples, almonds for the crunch and caramel sauce. The porridge is rich, creamy and cooked to perfection. The blend of freshness of the fruit, crunch from the nuts and the sweetness from the caramel forms a delicate yet delicious balance. Pea risotto : Risotto with mashed pea, cream, parmesan cheese, a dollop of ricotta. Pea sprouts added in for the freshness. The rich aroma of risotto and tanginess from the lemon vinaigrette is like foreplay of senses. A bite of this is worth a visit to this place. Berry Chia pudding: I ordered this not knowing the quantity of the other food. It's served in a small bowl . Chia pudding made with almond milk and berry jam. It's topped with roasted coconut flakes, freeze dried raspberries (Oh the tanginess!!). It's sweet, cruncy, fresh and the perfect start of the day. Cortado: Strong espresso, steamed milk served in a beautiful cortado cup. Their cups are unique and they even sell them incase you wish to purchase. Chicken congee : Tried this for dinner on a rainy day. Hot rice porridge with chicken and peanuts. Spring onions for freshness. The spice was really good especially on a rainy day. I can see this being a comfort food. The ginger in it was a little over powering especially the tiny pieces of it but it may just have been an off day. Still very delicious! All in all, this place is definitely on my list of places to visit again. If you can't decide between sweet or savory, get both like me. This is what I'd imagined when they say 'Breakfast like a king...'

I was pleasantly surprised to be totally wrong. The Burrata Bowl was not only beautifully arranged but a cohesive dish of complementary fixings. The hero flavors--the burrata itself and a vegan green garlic sauce--were delicious. The supporting cast of roasted carrots and almonds added textures and subtle notes to make it a knockout dish. It'd be to tough resist getting this bowl again, but other menu options sounded intriguing too. Copenhagen is lucky to have so many locations. I wish I could take one home.

My first time in Denmark with my friend being my tour guide couldn't have gone any better! My…read morefriend is vegan and I am always excited to try vegan restaurants, plus she had this cafe bookmarked for a while. The layout of the cafe is very cozy and dimly lit, a perfect place for vegans to socialize over lattes and food. We decided on their brunch platter and croissant sandwich, so we could share everything. I got a matcha latte and she got a regular one. The cashier was very kind, and she gave us her recommendations on what to try. She even spoke to me in English (although she didn't have to!). I also decided on trying out a pain au chocolat. Wow, just simply wow. Their pastries are still buttery and fluffy while remaining amazingly vegan, and their ingredients are high quality. The "cheeses" did not taste like plastic, no, but tasted similar to authentic cheese. The croissant sandwich was full of flavors and everything on the brunch platter was delicious. I especially loved how they decorated and seasoned the avocado (and it was ripe!) The matcha latte was a lovely wake up, especially after I had a horrible matcha latte the day prior. After about an hour or so, we were both eyeing their options of "cheesecakes" and decided on sharing a slice of their pecan option. After we took our first bite, my friend and I just looked at each other. The pecans and sauce complimented each other so well, and the vegan consistency wasn't too mushy! The breading was not too crumbly and each bite was Heaven. All in all, I am SO EXCITED to come back to this delicious cafe, as it was my favorite restaurant we tried during our stay in Copenhagen.

So fantastic!! See previous review for nearby Cafe Bla…read more My meager avocado served with my toast in that cafe quickly caused me to be hungry again. Thankfully, Kaf is in the same neighborhood. It is a vegan bakery! There are a few gluten-free pastries, namely the cakes. The place was small inside and it was packed. Dog friendly . . . Five stars for that! There is an outside seating area as well. We ordered some items and all were so amazing! On their Instagram page they are always posting about their vegan fastelvnsbolle and so we got some. It is basically a cream puff the size of a child's fist. Oh my, one of my faves from Denmark. The vanilla whipped cream inside was so light and not to sweet. The dough did not get soggy. On the contrary, the bottom of the pastry was crunchy and sweet. Almost like the bottom of an almond croissant. I also recommend their vegan, raw cakes. Deep rich chocolate is involved, yay!

We were there for lunch, and the reservation says you get the table for two hours. We were there for 2 hours, but it seemed unnecessarily long. There were several dishes that we seemed to wait for ever for. I think they could improve a bit on the timing. The restaurant is also a bit out of the way from the main tourist attractions. The neighborhood is really cute and there are lots of shops around. The cemetery nearby is also where Hans Christian Andersen's grave is. Without making a trip to the restaurant we probably would have missed out on such a cute part of town.

I opted for the juice pairing here and it was delightful. First time trying it and there were so many unique flavors. Overall, I feel it doesn't quite enhance the food as well as wine, but it's still worth a try. We went with the 5 course menu, which turned out to be avant-garde. One interesting aspect is that the table has all the utensils in a hidden drawer. Pre-appetizer Fried shallots in sourdough batter with sourdough sauce. This was a nice treat that was lightly fried. The sourdough bread here is definitely the best I've had. It's super fresh from the oven, skin was slightly burnt and crispy and the inside dough was so fluffy. Danish cucumber and coriander mackarel - very light. Nice intro. Not much mackarel taste. Fermented gooseberry and elderflower - this juice pairing was slightly sour from the fermentation. Zuchinni basil, zuchinni sauce - Delightful dish. Very flavorful. Zuchinni was all warm and easy to cut. Very fleshy almost like meat. Fruit juice was basically a palette cleanser prepping my mouth for the same experience over and over. Blueberry and pine honey - reminds me of being in nature. Strong smell of pine. Sweet blueberry aftertaste. This was an amazing juice by itself. Dill with cuts of lamb - interesting dish that came with a contrasting dish made of white radish, sheep yogurt and dill vinegar. Almond milk cheese apricot basalmic sauce. Cracker from waste of almond milk pulp. Cracker was not too crunchy. Almond milk cheese was fantastic. Thick and a little rougher, but very almonds. They used some cheese culture to make it so it's not vegan. Birch tea and earl grey tea - strong earl taste. Heavy on the tongue. Chervil and dandelion juice pairing. Parfait - currant, meringue, rose. Creamy and sweet from the currant. Juice pairing was a good neutralizer for the sweetness.
