Tonight I ventured over to Osteria dei Sapori for dinner. I had walked past this place a few times…read moreover the last few days and finally decided to give it a try. Their outdoor seating area is spacious and every time I passed by it was packed. That's usually a pretty good sign that the food is worth the stop. Now one thing I still haven't found anywhere in Italy is good old Southern hospitality. I guess that's expected since I'm a long way from the good ole USA South. But I'm adjusting, and honestly I came here for the food, not warm welcomes and waiters calling me "darlin'." I ordered a Coca-Cola because as a certified water snob, I'm still searching for that magical glass of water over here. For dinner I ordered the Spaghetti allo Scoglio. Sounds fancy, right? If you know Italian, I'm sure it does. I was just thankful the menu also said "spaghetti with seafood" underneath it so I didn't accidentally order octopus eyeballs or something. When the dish hit the table it looked like Michelangelo himself had snuck into the kitchen and started plating pasta instead of painting ceilings. I grabbed the fork, rolled the pasta onto the spoon like a seasoned Italian for about three seconds, and took a bite. Bam. There it is boys. The best pasta dish I've had since touching down on this foreign land. The sauce was hot, creamy, and cooked to perfection. The seafood was fantastic and every bite was loaded with flavor. This dish absolutely hit the 5 mark for food quality. I'm giving the overall experience 4 stars because I had to ask for bread and they're still lacking that Southern hospitality touch. But the food was excellent, the outdoor seating was great, and this is definitely a place I may find myself back at again before leaving Venice.

Don't walk run away from this place, they are a disgrace to the Italian community the people in…read moreVenice should rise up to have them shut down. Sad meatballs.lunch room chicken cutlets and frozen pizza I'm sure prison food is better than this...

Wow! What an incredible experience. We've been traveling through Europe and happened to find this…read moreplace on our last night in Venice, and we're so glad we did. From the moment we arrived, the owner, Marco, made us feel genuinely welcome. He explained that the food is Sicilian and quite different from what you typically find in Venice, which was exactly what we were hoping for after days of similar menus. The menu is short, focused, and built around family recipes. We ordered the pasta of the day, the roast beef, and the smoked salmon dish, and every single item was fantastic. To finish, we had limoncello made by Marco's mother, and it was absolutely delicious. What really made the evening special was Marco and his family. They were warm, kind, and genuinely happy to share their story with us. We loved hearing about his late father and the lasting impact he had on both the family and the restaurant. One of the most memorable parts of the night was joining in the restaurant tradition of coloring pictures and exchanging them with drawings already hanging on the ceiling. We ended up taking home a picture created by a family member, and it will be making the journey back with us to Carlsbad, California. Without a doubt, this was the best dining experience of our entire trip through Europe. Highly recommended!!

The pumpkin flan was a true experience of sweet and savoriness. I couldn't stop eating the ratatouille; it was such a delicious treat. I was able to have a conversation with the chef after our meal, and she encouraged my excitement to experiment and try my hand at some of these dishes at home. I wish I lived in Venice, so I could have La Zucca regularly. They only had one reservation spot for the days we were in Venice, so I definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time.

The seating made it completely worth it, though--we were seated right by the canal water and had a gorgeous view throughout our meal! The servers were very pleasant, though navigating the menu takes a little extra effort. The menu is in Italian and changes regularly. While they do provide a translation menu, I ended up using my phone to translate most of it myself. For dietary restrictions, they do mark allergy items, though there aren't very many gluten-free options available. To drink, I ordered an Aperol Spritz. For food, I had the carrot soup and a plate of two sides: ratatouille and zucchini. The soup and the zucchini were both delicious! One of my friends ordered the linguine, but unfortunately found it to be overly salty. Overall, it's a lovely spot for a scenic lunch by the water, especially if you enjoy a lively atmosphere and don't mind navigating a changing Italian menu.
