I've heard people say that they never change their menu - well, for one, that's not true - there's always seasonal specials floating around - but two, the core menu doesn't need to change. Perfect steak - aged on the premises. Seriously, this doesn't need mucking around with. They do steak so well they're the standard I gauge EVERY other steak I have by. It IS a little formal - you'll be greeted at the bar, and the expectation is you'll settle down for an aperitif before being seated. There's invariably a little dip to nibble on, too. A small serve of the house speciality meatballs will help you through the choices on the menu - and the BEST steak on the day will be recommended. There are some alternatives for non cow lovers, but really Cork & Cleaver is ALL about the best beef in town. I'm normally a mushroom sauce kind of person, but here, go the bernaise, it is an incredible accompaniement to the perfect steak you'll receive - the plate of sauteed mushrooms as a side is pretty top notch too. Desserts are done with just as much skill as the meat - the personal attention of your waiter or waitress will ensure your dining experience is second to none. As a devout foodie, this is exactly how I think heaven will be.

Popped in for an unplanned lunch. Partner is a steak fanatic and he pushed the menu aside and went…read moreup to view the cuts in the chiller. He selected a rib eye on the bone, asked the waitress which item it was on the menu, and went for medium rare. (COSTILLA DE BIFE 50.9 Riverine - New South Wales 600g grain fed rib eye, aged 28 days) The steak was perfect, beautiful char on the outside, fat rendered and yet still medium rare inside. He ended up gnawing the bone. There were no unpleasant gristly bits, no areas where medium-rare turned into blue or well done - this was a beautiful cut of meat, beautifully cooked. I had the lamb cutlets with chimi churri sauce. (CORDERO * 39.9 Adelaide Hills lamb loin cutlets char grilled with green chimi churri) I requested medium and they were cooked just as ordered. Some char on the outside, fat well rendered, these were delightful nuggets of tender lamb, brought to life by the sweet green sauce with a piquant hint of slow heat. Our only side was steak cut chips, which were perfectly crispy golden on the outside with a floury, roast potato mouth feel inside. We accompanied this with a rather morish Pinot by the glass, and followed up with a round of coffees. The waitress then presented us with a complimentary sweet port, which was quite delightful. The coffee was excellent - creamy, no burnt aftertaste, the milk was marshmallowy and it was good enough we went for seconds. These guys do know how to charge, but it's so worth it. This is how beef should be - top quality cuts, aged, eaten and appreciated on occasion. I'd rather pay $50 for a $50 steak than $30 for a $10 steak.

Two hours of loud shouting, at the top of their voices, serial swearing and profanity, airport level decibel noise. The staff were asking them to be quieter. The staff turned the lights completely off, irrespective of other patrons, for the table birthday singing, the shouting went completely over the top, and continued after the lights came back on. Extremely loud. About five other tables immediately emptied leaving, People had had enough. Other patrons like us, couldn't have a conversation due to the loud noise of one table. I did ask to be moved to the front room after an hour, but the staff refused, claiming they were full up. There was vacated table. The food and wine was excellent, but at $400 for two, one should expect that. And expect a decent atmosphere. Not a Hoon Soccer stadium atmosphere, constant swearing at the top of their voices, A decent restaurant would have asked them to leave. I've visited Argentina. And ALL the Argentinian restaurants had extremely polite diners. Usually great atmosphere. Great food. Good dining experience. But not Gauchos in Adelaide. No Tango music, or other atmosphere. No music. Instead loud "Ffff that", "Ffffing hell", "Bullsh*T", "Sh*t" at the top of voices for two hours. When paying the bill, the cashier/manager had a disinterested attitude, "who cares" attitude. I had gone to Gauchos many times in the past years, missed for a few years, it has certainly not improved. Don't dine there.

Today's review is for The Woodville Hotel…read more The first thing we noticed was that it had a few different dining areas. The main area was completely booked out so we walked out into "the yard". According to their website, they have recently upgraded and I quite liked this area. Although this is an "outside" area, it's protected from the elements but still allows glorious sunlight to stream on through the windows warming up my chilled bones. The heating in that area helped a bit too!! There were staff bustling about here and there but all were very friendly and eager to please. We looked at the menu and I noticed the regular sort of pub fare that you'd expect from any decent bistro. Nothing really jumped out at me. They had parmi's, steaks, burgers, pizza's and a few seafood options. Because I'd seen this on the menu online before arriving, I knew I was going to order the bruschetta to share with hubby as an entree. It also helped that I saw a serve of this coming out and it looked quite big! For main hubby jumped out of his steak comfort zone and went for the Oven Baked Chicken Breast : Filled with double smoked ham, semi-dried tomato and haloumi cheese served on garlic mash potato and topped with citrus hollandaise I chose the Coorong Beef Rump Parmigiana: With chips, salad and your choice of sauce I swear I'd barely sat back at the table after ordering before the bruschetta came out. I had been craving this and was really really looking forward to it! It didn't disappoint. It looked pretty on the plate. The bread was lovely continental bread, lightly toasted, and the tomatoes were sweet and full of flavour. I just love tomato and basil. Such a heavenly combination! The sticky balsamic added a nice touch too. If I'm being picky I'd say I'd prefer my bread to be a little more toasted but hubby said he liked it just the way it was so that just comes down to personal preference. Unfortunately it was finished just as quick as it came out and now our hunger, rather than being partially satiated, was enraged! We had been warned that hubby's chicken was going to take at least thirty minutes before it was ready however it did seem like it came out sooner than that. Still, I like when you get that warning because then you're not left wondering if they've forgotten your order. Hubby was a little disappointed when he saw his dish. Only because to him, it looked small. I thought it looked ok on the plate but probably could have done with a bigger salad so that the meat didn't look so lonesome and maybe could have done with some fries on there too. I mean when you compare it to what mine was, this is like an itty bitty serve and yet cost quite a bit more than mine. I know that's not how things are priced but when you have a hunger.... There was nothing wrong with the taste of it. Hubby said it was good. Nice flavours throughout but he couldn't get past the size of it. Not that he should have complained really because he ended up eating half of mine! My beef parmi was HUGE! And they were so generous with that cheese!! The meat was good, tender, the tomato sauce was ok and the cheese was gooey as it should be. All good. No complaints. I'm not sure why we weren't "wowed" as there was nothing wrong with anything either of us ate and everyone was lovely to us. Most of the things we saw on the menu I thought were reasonably priced or at least, comparable to other pubs/bistro's. If you're a local or simply looking for a good bistro I would recommend The Woodville. The food is good, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly and from what I see, there's usually quite a few people about!

Amazing stone grilled dining isn't all you get at The Balcony, you awesome receive on point service by waiting staff who are more than happy to accommodate diners. The staffs also help you with the stone grilling process, and it is vital to listen to them unless you want an overcooked well-done steak (which is a sin). I ordered the seafood collection to stone grilled, and I must say is something else. The food was well garnished and the flavours were brought out on the stone slab. My friends ordered the steaks and managed to stuff up on the stone grilling (amateurs). Overall, absolutely fantastic food and services and is a great place to dine on any special occasion that wouldn't kill your wallet. Would definitely be back!
