Pleasantly surprised there was another cafe gazelle. Have gone to the one in Belmont Shore many times and love it. What i love is all dishes come with complimentary table bread and choice of soup or salad. I chose the onion soup. It was good but a bit too salty for my taste. As my main course I had the Aromatico chicken that came with pasta on the side. There was a very unique herb on the tomato slices i have never had before i could not identify. We ordered a dinner n it did not match the website prices. My dish was a shrimp dish on the website was $29.95. The menu said $34.95. My husband's dish was not the same as the web prices When the bill no itemize of what we had. So we didn't know what we paid for the dinner or the wine. We will not. Be going back. The patisserie was not the best certainly not home made but that is acceptable what was less acceptable was the bill I paid over 42 dollars ! Looked nice/interesting, for a dinner and would have considered spending a dress up meal there but when I went in to ask for if they served desserts/ to see their menu (because dessert selection is especially important to me), the elder worker there hesitated at first then stated "We don't serve dessert." A bit surprised as disappointed this type of approach as a restaurant with a pretty unassuming location and nice but not-super-upscale feel would treat a potential customer. Caffe Gazelle is such a small and intimate little Italian spot. I wasn't entirely sure if I was at the right place since there's not really a sign righ outside the establishment that clearly states the restaurants name. Upon arrival around 6:30 pm on a Saturday night, I was greeted by the worker behind the bar and he had notified me it would be around a 30-45 min wait. There was not a waitlist to be put on or anything nor did he ask for my contact information for whenever seats are available. He simply asked for my name and that he will remember me. After waiting around the corner for about 20 min or so of the restaurant I saw probably 2 parties leave so I went back and there were tables available. The tables were small and with the way the tables were placed in the restaurant it felt a little bit tight/squished. They served us a small bowl of cheese and butter. Then placed a small loaf of bread on our bread plate. The wine menu was mostly by the bottle but there were by the glass options inside for around $8-9/glass so we opted for a bottle of Pinot Noir. One thing I did not like about the wine was that it was room temperature and not slightly chilled. We ordered the michaelangelo and carbonara pasta. The entree came with either soup or salad and we got one of each. The service was fast paced and it felt like as soon as we finished the soup and salad the pasta was immediately served nice and hot. Both pasta dishes were really delicious and creamy. After finishing our entree we were provided 6 different options for dessert. Unfortunately, we did not opt for dessert since we were already stuffed with our food. Would love to come back here again in the future however I do believe some type of waiting system needs to be established so that people are properly notified of when their tables are ready. Some good old friends and former high school classmates and I had a mini high school reunion and since we knew we would be spending the whole evening to talking and catching up, Cafe Gazelle was perfect. This location in Huntington Beach was perfect for our group of eight. The restaurant is small and a nice quiet ambiance to allow us to talk with one another and not have to yell. The food is authentic Italian with great selections of pastas, salads and chef's specials. Very much home made dishes, but I have to give credit to whoever made the delicious spumoni ice cream. I was not planning to have dessert, but when I asked if it was made in house with real pistachio nuts and the fruit bits and he said yes, then how can I say no. How I miss authentic spumoni ice cream. After seeing all the entrees around the table as they were served, everything looked delicious and again I say authentic Italian food. One of this evening's specials was chicken with sour cherry sauce on a bed of sauteed spinach with lovely, crisp, green beans and penne. The cherry sauce was *just* sweet enough to offset the natural bitterness of sauteed spinach. The entire dinner was superb. The house-made Caesar salad dressing wash delish as well. Caffe Gazelle is a quaint restaurant with approximately 14 tables, which makes it a more intimate dining experience. Apparently, with the exception of the young busboy, the owner Fred, the waiter, Rick, and the chef, have worked together for years. In general the food was delicious, including the freshly baked bread. But, the lasagna was outstanding. I think there were 6 or 7 dessert options on the tray Rick brought to our table, which all looked amazing. We shared the lemon cake. It was the perfect way to end a wonderful dining experience. Caffe Gazelle is a hidden gem in Huntington Beach and deserves more recognition! First off, everything on the menu looked absolutely amazing. It was so hard to narrow down what to order! They have different types of pastas, meats, and sauces that all sounded divine. We ultimately ordered the morso di pollo (chicken meatballs), melanzana (eggplant), ravioli, and liverness (scallops, gnocchi). Everything was 10/10- the flavor, richness, and portion size were perfect. Additionally, the service was excellent. Our server gave us good recommendations and checked on our table frequently. I love Caffe Gazelle. Friends turned us on to this place about 3 months ago and we've been back about 5 times since. The owner/manager already knows our drink orders and my wife's dinner selection. I keep trying new things and they are always delicious. They will alternate meats on menu items. If you see something on the chicken section you want with veal, they'll do it no problem and vice versa. Fresh hot rolls are great. Included soup or salad is a bonus you just don't see anymore. I was not expecting this place to be that great. It has a cute ambiance and good service. The bread and dipping oil and vinegar was nice to start out with.
