I had just landed in Barcelona with my mom from a 12 hour flight from LAX that didn't provide any food, so we were starving. After checking in to our hotel and dropping off all our luggage, we went down Rambla de Catalunya and saw that Cafe & Tapas had no wait, so we just decided to out on a whim and try out this restaurant. We were originally going to sit outside in the large pedestrian area of the street, but it was simply too cold and there were too many smokers around, so we ditched our table and went inside the restaurant. The menu was purely in Catalan with no translation, so the pictures and server (and some Google translate) definitely helped us when deciding what to order.
We ended up ordering their famous patatas bravas (labeled the best in the world), mushroom croquettes, and the fried chicken salad. Everything we ordered was ok, it was definitely hot and freshly prepared. I was so hungry and eager to finally eat something that I burned my tongue consuming the creamy, mushy, mushroom filled croquettes. The fries that we ordered were covered in the restaurant's special red and white sauce and they paired well with the mushroom croquettes. The salad was also a good addition to our meal as it balanced out all the fried goodies we ordered.
As the restaurant did not seem as popular as a lot of the other places around this large street, I would recommend it if you were looking for a quick and tasty bite to eat. However, I should note that after eating at a few other places in Barcelona, I would have to say that their menu doesn't have nearly as many different options as other tapas places, but they did have salad (which was basically the last time I ate one during my trip). read more
