This is a typical pub near the canals in downtown Amsterdam. It is self service, meaning you go to the bar to order your drinks and bring them back to wherever you're seated. The prices were pretty standard for downtown Amsterdam and we enjoyed a gin and tonic, soda and beer. It was a great vibe, especially for tourists because it was a small, quieter and more intimate space.

Wonderful little cafe in the Jordaan neighborhood. Good place for grabbing a bear and taking a seat, inside too but I recommend outdoors. You get a nice view of the canals and old housing in the neighborhood. Overall, a very good atmosphere. Quick service as and they were very nice.

The only reason I stopped at this cafe was because it was the meeting spot for the canal cruise I was going to take. I didn't eat (as I had just has a snack somewhere else) but I did get a drink and stared longingly at the food around me at other tables. Even though I didn't try any of it, I can tell you that the food looked and smelled fantastic. The service was pretty good. I liked how they didn't even bat an eye when people walked in to just use the bathroom. The ambiance of this place is really cute too. Small but intimate and cute. The owner or manager (not sure which) had the CUTEST dog as well. That's a reason to come in right there. LOL!!! If I am ever in town again, I will definitely give their food a chance as it really did look yummy.

Stopped in for a coffee when we had time to kill before climbing Westertoren. Not much to say since we didn't try any food there, but service could have been better. Our waitress seemed a little rude, like she hated her job and hated life. There are tons of cafes in Amsterdam. You're better off picking a different one.

I had a nice relaxing afternoon here, at a table by the river at Wester Cafe. Couple of beers, delicious chicken sandwich, good attending hosts, smiling faces, sunny sky... Besides, it was the next best thing after I saw the devastating line for the Anne Frank House.

Decent spot to grab a beer on a canal. Nothing special, service was pretty slow. We couldn't find our server when we needed the check and after waiting about 10 minutes, we ended up heading inside to ask the bartender to cash us out. They did have comfy benches with cushions, which made it a nice rest before heading to the next spot. Again nothing special but a good place to rest your feet if needed

One of my favorite bars from this trip. I really loved the music they had on. A lot of old school Beatles music. The food and beer were excellent.

Came here randomly as we were walking for food. Came here and got some authentic Dutch foods :) the variety dish of appetizers were delicious. My favorite were the bitterballs with meat and potatoes. I had my bacon & cheese pancake which wasn't anything special but pancakes are a thing with the Dutch. I also got a slice of apple pie which was worth it! My friend's sandwich with the croquettes was also delicious! Highly recommend this spot and the service is wonderful! Super nice people :)

This is a nice place that seems like a bit of a tourist trap at first but is actually reasonably priced and I noticed groups of locals hanging out here. We didn't stay for long but I enjoyed a bottle of Brouwerij 't IJ wheat beer, which was really nice, and my companion had a large Heineken. We sat outside and people watched before rushing off for dinner nearby. Overall there was nothing particularly exciting about this place but it's worth popping in if you're passing.

What a joyous bar. Packed as it was, people were in cheerful moods as they stood or sat throughout the place. Groups, or singles enjoyed not so pricy drinks and the relaxed atmosphere. We stayed for a few hours, or at least until last call (2:30 for most Amsterdam joints) and had a great time. Photographers come in with polaroid cameras and take pictures, for a price. And do not miss the quotes in the bathroom. You will laugh.

Grab a table outdoors right along the canal and enjoy a cold beer or warm coffee while enjoying the fantastic view of the Westerkerk that is in clear view. Also a great spot for people watching along the canal and just across the street from the Anne Frank House. Lovely place to sit back and just enjoy the beauty of Amsterdam.

Great breakfast! Have the cheese & bacon pancakes. Beautiful outdoor seating on the canal. Went back for a evening drink indoors. Small but charming pub. Very friendly staff.

He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.

The space is really cool, with some neat lit-up signs behind the bar and antique paintings on the ceiling. I tried a few cocktails and they were all tasty. These included the Flying Dutchmen -- their signature cocktail -- and the Umami Margarita. I was a bit hesitant about the Dutchmen because it was with gin and orange, but I liked it a lot. The margarita was unusual with some mushroom dust on the rim. Our server was very friendly and helpful.

Carlota who answered the doorbell, was able to accommodate us at the bar (our preferred seating anyway). She took our coats, placed them in the coat closet up front and led us inside. Once seated, we were given gorgeous ruby red complimentary aperitif (hibiscus, honey, ginger). The drink menu is interesting, based on the concept of growing up, with more basic tastes to start and more mature complex tastes later on in life. (The drinks are more complex the later in the menu). I ordered the Awake at Last, and my husband ordered the Ruby Stone. Mine was sweet and coffee flavored and his was more tart and sour cherry flavored. When I tried his drink, I immediately felt nostalgic because it reminded me of umeboshi (pickled plum in Japanese food), so we ended up trading drinks. Both were great for supping. Sitting at the bar was fun, watching the bartender at his work. He was silent, focused, skilled, professional. So glad we checked it out! I didn't post pictures of the entrance or inside because I'll leave it to you to discover! (The fun of a speakeasy).

We were going on a boat tour that afternoon, to see all the light installations, so we made sure the timing was right to get to Pulitzer's on time! We had a 6:00 reservation, and got there promptly and found the door that we were to enter. The door was locked, but there was a sign that said 'please wait, someone will be with you soon'. Our wait was very short, and someone promptly came, greeted us and took us to our seats at the bar. Because a reservation, I believe is required, (not 200% about that), we were wondering if it would be a bit stuffy. It was not at all, everyone that we spoke to was very friendly, and great service at the bar. There were other couch settings and a few different set ups, but as usual, we love the bar. Our drinks were fabulous and we tried three of their menu items- only have appetizers, but they were very good. In talking to my sister and her husband, after we returned home, who had just been to Amsterdam, I realized that they stayed at the Pulitzer hotel, which we did not know when we were there. They loved the hotel - so I can give a recommendation for that as well. They said all the rooms are different and they really loved their room. I think everyone would really enjoy a stay at the Pulitzer hotel and definitely get a reservation to Pulitzer's bar- you won't be disappointed.
