Right on a canal for gorgeous photos and ambiance. We were waiting for our friends and wanted to grab a bite. Cafe Wester was our pick and it did not disappoint. The staff was amazingly awesome, friendly, and chatted us up quite a bit. Might not be some peoples vibe but we loved it. The food was solid, too. Wife had avocado toast which was the strangest avocado toast we'd seen but she certainly enjoyed it. I had a few eggs and toast which were delicious! Note for the 'Mericans, this toast might not be what you're used to but it was delicious and filling! We swung by cafe Webster as we shopping around and walking by the Amsterdam canals. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside as it was an overcast day and the tables were right by the canal. The waitress was a bit rude, I think it was because she was overwhelmed but her number of people seating outside and she was the only one serving all tables. We got a beer and an aperol spritz. Got our drinks within 5 mins. The tables were scrunched up too close to each other which made it a bit uncomfortable. Prices were reasonable. read more

This is a typical pub near the canals in downtown Amsterdam. It is self service, meaning you go to the bar to order your drinks and bring them back to wherever you're seated. The prices were pretty standard for downtown Amsterdam and we enjoyed a gin and tonic, soda and beer. It was a great vibe, especially for tourists because it was a small, quieter and more intimate space. read more

Wonderful little cafe in the Jordaan neighborhood. Good place for grabbing a bear and taking a seat, inside too but I recommend outdoors. You get a nice view of the canals and old housing in the neighborhood. Overall, a very good atmosphere. Quick service as and they were very nice. read more

The only reason I stopped at this cafe was because it was the meeting spot for the canal cruise I was going to take. I didn't eat (as I had just has a snack somewhere else) but I did get a drink and stared longingly at the food around me at other tables. Even though I didn't try any of it, I can tell you that the food looked and smelled fantastic. The service was pretty good. I liked how they didn't even bat an eye when people walked in to just use the bathroom. The ambiance of this place is really cute too. Small but intimate and cute. The owner or manager (not sure which) had the CUTEST dog as well. That's a reason to come in right there. LOL!!! If I am ever in town again, I will definitely give their food a chance as it really did look yummy. read more

Stopped in for a coffee when we had time to kill before climbing Westertoren. Not much to say since we didn't try any food there, but service could have been better. We couldn't find our server when we needed the check and after waiting about 10 minutes, we ended up heading inside to ask the bartender to cash us out. Came here randomly as we were walking for food. Came here and got some authentic Dutch foods :) the variety dish of appetizers were delicious. My favorite were the bitterballs with meat and potatoes. I had my bacon & cheese pancake which wasn't anything special but pancakes are a thing with the Dutch. I also got a slice of apple pie which was worth it! This is a nice place that seems like a bit of a tourist trap at first but is actually reasonably priced and I noticed groups of locals hanging out here. We didn't stay for long but I enjoyed a bottle of Brouwerij 't IJ wheat beer, which was really nice, and my companion had a large Heineken. We sat outside and people watched before rushing off for dinner nearby. Overall there was nothing particularly exciting about this place but it's worth popping in if you're passing. read more

What a joyous bar. Packed as it was, people were in cheerful moods as they stood or sat throughout the place. Groups, or singles enjoyed not so pricy drinks and the relaxed atmosphere. We stayed for a few hours, or at least until last call (2:30 for most Amsterdam joints) and had a great time. Photographers come in with polaroid cameras and take pictures, for a price. A really nice bar/cafe to visit on a nice sunny day! Sitting next to the canals watching the boats go by is my favorite part about the place. They have a lot of snacks to choose from but i enjoy their hummus or bitterballen, also if you go there in the evening you must have their HAMBURGER with Guacamole its delicious, the only issue though is that it is only served from 6 till the burgers last. We'd been craving a real breakfast so we stopped in here after touring the Anne Frank House. It's a small place with only room for maybe 20 people. Despite, there being only one waitress, she was efficient and provided speedy service. The menu isn't very extensive, as it is a bar, so we both ordered the apple pancakes. They were more crepe-like than American pancakes but were good and came with a slice of cheese and bacon folded within the pancakes. It was nice to finally have something other than a croissant or danish for breakfast. Cafe Wester is a place where the locals frequent, not at all a tourist trap. The prices were reasonable and the service was great, what more could you ask for. read more

We stopped in to Cafe Wester after finding the cafe we'd planned on lunching in closed until 3pm. Seeing the inviting canal-side location and filled tables at Cafe Wester, we nabbed one of the last tables outside and ordered espressos and croissants. After checking out the menu, we realized that we were actually hungry for a meal and so then also ordered a chicken sandwich to split. The croissant was as most are - amazing, buttery, flaky and decadent. The sandwich was equally as enjoyable, and after seeing the sandwiches of other patrons we realized that they were all delicious-looking. The service was impeccable! If we'd had more time in Amsterdam, we definitely would have returned to Cafe Wester. read more

I stopped into this spot after a long day of walking around Amsterdam and craving some Dutch pancakes. I had the pancake with mixed fruit which was amazing. The fruit included bananas,pears, strawberries and kiwi. All was very fresh. Two ladies next to me ordered sandwiches which were really hearty. The fries looked good as well. Cool little cafe in Amsterdam. We stopped here while we were waiting for our boat tour of the river. A good assortment of beers/wines and a nice dinner menu as well. Not impressed....have been walking all day in Amsterdam... Finally just wanted some fruit juice and a lovely meal... No such luck. Blondy was more interested in entertaining his friends. I was lucky to get a glass of water with lemon. He just told my husband they don't serve anything my husband asked for & did not offer anything else. My husband got a beer. Not impressed with his attitude, unhelpfulness and plain unprofessional attitude. Also not impressed with him and his friends comments in Dutch. (Unfortunately I understood it). Had a brilliant meal and best chocolate dessert across the canal from there. It has been 2 weeks, still puts me off thinking of our last day in Amsterdam. read more
