This cafe is super cute, but is also very tiny and crowded at peak times. We went there to grab brunch on a Saturday. Getting to the counter to order felt like a game of Tetris and some poor guy spilled coffee all over himself attempting to squeeze past me. I understand why it's so crowded though, because the crew that works here is so welcoming, and you have a million menu options to pick from. We ordered the an iced matcha and an iced maple latte for drinks. For food, I got the avocado lox toast with eggs, my husband got the Gandhi bagel. Overall, we were a little less impressed by the drinks. They felt a little watered down, but we both prefer bolder coffee and matcha. We both preferred the coffee over the matcha. However, the food was SO delicious. You can tell they really picked fresh, high quality ingredients. Both orders of food were extremely generously portioned. I was looking for a place to grab lunch in the area and ended up at Cafe Volkan thanks to Yelp. It's a neighborhood cafe with a few tables inside and a couple outside. The barista made a delicious matcha and I also enjoyed the woodland omelette and hummus plate. The hummus plate came with crunchy cucumber, ripe tomatoes, hummus with tahini, pumpkin seeds, a generous amount of avocado and two eggs. I'm picky when it comes to hummus but I really liked theirs. It had a little tahini. The woodland omelette had cremini mushrooms and sautéed onions inside. It came topped with avocado. Great place to get a quick, lighter-side breakfast! The omelette and açaí bowl were both yummy, though I do agree with some of the other reviews that the bowl is on the runnier side. Latte was pretty good. Services was also very great and food came out pretty quick. Not a ton of seating inside and out, so it would definitely be tough to find some for more than two people. The coffee was really good and hot! Very quaint establishment, indoor seating only for 11 people maybe 13 if people shared a booth. Outside seating for 8. They had a wide variety of pastries. I had a grilled cheese omelette Bergen and my husband had a waffle. Both were really good. Nothing comes with it, and the grilled cheese could have had a larger amount of the ingredients, so a little pricey for breakfast, but very good and fresh. We sat inside and they seemed to stay busy on a Saturday morning. We would go there again. I think this would be more a coffee and pastry shop for us than regular menu items as $15 for a waffle and no sides is a bit much. read more

It is a very very small cafe, with limited seating inside and outside. Luckily, we were able to find a table inside, but many people were there to pick up coffee to go. The Classic Avocado Toast ($11.50+) was absolutely delicious. Some places get stingy with their avocado, but this one had plenty of avocado on the toast--which was perfect for an avocado lover like me. Next time, I hope to try their Salmon Avocado. For drinks, I ordered tea ($4+), which they had a nice selection of from Harney & Sons, from Paris to Ginger Tea. If you love avocado toast, there may be a bit of a wait for a table, but I highly recommend you stop by and give it a try. read more

I had passed this cafe multiple times when near the Bergen street area. However, it took me waiting for another place to open while it was pouring rain in the early hours of the morning to get myself through the door. It is a relatively small place. With a few tables and chairs. I admire the green pastels on the outside and the wooden set up they have on the inside. They had rules about laptops inside which make sense since people don't control a seat for hours. It was relatively empty for me due to the rain and the early morning but there were a few people coming in for quick conversations and to pick up food. If I wasn't heading to a pancake place immediately after I would have tried their menu since they had various options including variations on avocado toast, Belgian waffles and truffle omelettes. I got introduced to Salep (sahleb in other places) because I saw it on the board. It was the only item that I didn't recognize and when I was told it was made of orchids, I tried it. Definitely on the creamy side and you get the floral flavor. Though I can't see this as a working cafe for me, I do see the future of a great spot to chat with a friend read more

I had the açaí bowl but it was my first time trying it so I had nothing to compare it to (per se). it was more watery than i expected. I stopped in for a coffee and maybe just a tiny pastry or bite, but when I saw something mysteriously and all-too-alluringly called an "omelette grilled cheese" on the menu, I felt helpless but to try it out. That turned out to be an excellent choice. Somewhere between breakfast and lunch, between panini and grilled cheese, between the moon and New York City... I fell in love with this delightful sandwich. I went with the truffle grilled cheese option--wildly flavorful, hearty but not terribly heavy--just a delicious meal, with a delightful light side salad as a perfect contrast and accompaniment. I also had a cortado which was tasty and perfectly made. This spot has a small but charming little outdoor seating area, or also perfect for takeaway as well. While this cafe is very small, they do offer a great food and coffee selection. This time around, we got the acai bowl and a truffle grilled cheese omelette. Seating is very limited both inside and out, and we were lucky to grab a table outside to enjoy our food. We did not order any coffee this time. Both the acai bowl and the grilled cheese omelette were absolutely delicious! The grilled cheese omelette was particularly unique. It's almost like a savory French toast crossed with a grilled cheese. If that sounds good to you, I highly recommend trying it! Wanted something quick and light and also needed a Matcha pick-me-up, so I saw this highly rated Cafe on Yelp and went for it. I ordered a iced Matcha latte, which was prepared quickly and tasted just how I expected it to. I also ordered an avocado toast with salmon and waited maybe 10 minutes for it. Longer than I expected but when I received it, I could see why. The toast was quite sizable, and there was no shortage of avocado or salmon on it, so I was pleasantly surprised. They topped it with capers and red onions, and I have to say this was quite the deal! Beautiful addition to the neighborhood with prime real estate, just off of bustling Smith St. The outdoor seating is cute, with a couple small tables and a couple benches. It's been full every time I've stopped in, but I'll be excited to have a coffee and pastry out here soon enough when I can snag an open seat. The lattes are solid. They use Devoción coffee which I really like the quality of, and they have a Nutella, golden and maple latte, which, if I can stray off of my standard oat milk latte one day, I might have to try out. I am a pretentious coffee snob so this is valid and reliable. Yes to cafe volkan all day. Lattes are yummy and wake you up. Best parts About this spot; they have elite coffee in LARGE sizes! A lot of better coffee spots only serve in one size but here you can get better coffee in bigger sizes. They have this specialty item called " Turkish coffee" it's served in an ornate glass cup and comes with a jolt. It's not a to-go item but definitely something a coffee lover or caffeine junkee needs to try. Oh and also it's a great spot to do work in and they have some great small bites.
