I had just landed in SF. It was late and even later by the time I checked in to my hotel. I hadn't eaten yet and I wanted to catch up with a friend as well so we looked for a spot with late night drinks and an open kitchen that was also walking distance to our hotel. We landed on Cafe Terminus, which was a great call. The place isn't huge and on a Tuesday night it was sparsely filled, but that gave us more opportunity to riff with the awesome bartender who welcomed us to SF with shots of Fernet. Now, Fernet is not my favorite by any stretch (actually you could say I actively dislike it!) but, when in San Francisco, right? The menu is fairly simple, consisting of a few sandwiches, salads, and sharable snacks. Looking for more of a meal I went with one of the sandwiches, the turkey (with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, cranberry sauce, and chipotle mayo). It was a bit like Thanksgiving in between bread and it quite good. And at just $12, it was also one of the more affordable meals I've encountered in the city over the years of traveling there for work. All around, a great experience! read more

Cafe Terminus was exactly what my friend and I needed after getting into San Francisco late for a work conference. This included a decent drink plus a quick, filling meal. We found Cafe Terminus just around the corner from our hotel. The bartender told us the kitchen would be closing soon so we should order fast. I got the Cubano a la Plancha. Our sandwiches came out fast, and we were able to catch up at one of the few tables in the small space. We also chatted with the bartender, who to welcome us to the city, mentioned their Fernet shots. I now know, because of this experience, that Fernet is an SF thing, originally because it was thought to cure cholera, a disease that once impacted the city. I can't say this spirit is tasty, but it was memorable. I know I'll be back to SF again soon, so I'm keeping Cafe Terminus in mind for a late evening eat and drink. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. The patio was open with plenty of seats. Unfortunately the food menu was limited to two items. Ordered the side of fries which were pretty good... very good actually. Staff was friendly. I'm sure it's busy for after work crowds. read more

Great service and reasonable price. Went here 2 days straight to have a drink fest with my friend that visited from london. We had a blast.

Started coming here when we returned to the office at least 2-3 a week for their amazing Kale Salad with Chicken ($12), and since I'm a pescatarian, the bartender offered to substitute avocado for the same price. This has been going on since about January 2023. I go in today to order my regular and it's now $14 (without chicken) and because I "added" avocado ($4) my kale salad is $18. When I ask him, the same bartender says, "we changed the prices and we don't include chicken". My fault for not inspecting the menu, but wouldn't you think he would let me know that as a regular?! Outstanding service and amazing Italian! Everyone at the restaurant was extremely accommodating with my 11 month old. They suggested the spaghetti and served him a half portion. A tiny little bar known for their fancy cocktails that has wisely decided to offer breakfast and lunch during workday hours when people shouldn't really be drinking. A limited menu and a bit hit or miss at times. Quite reasonably priced for the FiDi though. Blueberry Muffin: Felt like something out of a Seinfeld episode. The muffin top was pure heaven and the muffin bottom was kinda nasty. The top was so airy and had a great crust on the portions exposed to the oven. Only downside of the top was that not many blueberries rose in there. Meanwhile, the bottom had a lot of blueberries, but the dough was off. Like it was a tad under cooked. I wonder if that's because it had such a wide circumference. I only had a few nibbles before giving up. Thankfully the large muffin top was quite filling. Ciabatta Bread: I was skeptical at first. It looked like a lunch sandwich that happened to have cream cheese on it. Turned out I was being too bagel biased; it was delicious! First of all the cream cheese wasn't spread, it was in thick slices that were just as creamy as a spread but in a larger portion. The crispy bacon and ripe tomatoes were a very nice flavor and texture contrast. And the ciabatta roll itself was chewy and had a nice crunch, so it was bagel-like, except not as dense. Roast Beef Sandwich: Felt like there was too much lettuce on this and it wasn't even good lettuce. The roast beef was tasty enough; better than Subway quality but not as good as joint that specializes in it (e.g. Top Round). The bread was decent; don't think it needed to be toasted though. I enjoyed the creamy horseradish, but felt like this sandwich was missing cheese (bleu would have been perfect). read more

Wonderful and casual happy hour spot in the FiDi. Solid crafted cocktails and beer menu.

Terminus has exactly what I need in an after-work bar. It doesn't smell or look like a dive bar (Nothing against dive bars, but I tend to not go into one right after work). It's open early and closes late and is a good spot to wait for friends as you trickle out of the Embarcadero station, away from the foot traffic around there. I bring this all up because people just walk right past Terminus as if they don't know just what a gem of a place this is; I guess from the outside it seems pretty generic? There's inside and outside seating to satisfy folks at all comfort levels during the After Times, so is perfect to take the folks from the office, but also great to relieve stress by yourself after a long day. It's got hearty, no-frills yet tasty sandwiches, so if you're stuck waiting for BART on this end of San Francisco after drinking elsewhere and need "real" food, Terminus has got your back there too. The decor is no-frills San Francisco, dark concrete/white tile backdrop and is train station-like (hence the name) with a pretty good liquor selection, and prices on the reasonable end for the Financial District. The crowd reflects this--I see industry folks here later in the evening, which is always a good sign. There's a TV, but I wouldn't call this a sports bar - rather, it's a spot where you can look up occasionally to check on your team. The drink program is pretty solid, everyone I bring here finds something they like on it, but they'll make you an amazing margarita, old-fashioned, etc. off-menu here if you need one. No, they will not make you a blended drink. Yes, the bartenders are awesome, be nice to them. Pro tip: It's a smallish bar, so don't bring a large crowd. You'll wait for your cocktails, and you'll make everyone else wait too. read more

It's cozy, not too many seats. But the fact that it's somewhat hidden and out of the way gives you the impression you stumbled on a gem. I have been here a bunch of times, my office being across the street and up a block on California St. Although I have tried the food, it is just meh. I don't associate Terminus as a lunch/cafe place, and frankly there is better all around it in that department. That is a 2-star eatery there. As a bar, I like Terminus a lot. The ambiance is pretty bare, a long and narrow bar, with white bathroom-style tiles as the backsplash behind the counter, and industrial straight lighting coming down from the ceiling. The lighting is not bright, and in fact at night the place is a bit dim. The crowd is your FiDi after work drinking crowd, and the loction is convenient right across the street from One Cal; at the point where California and Market Streets converge. The bartenders are friendly, the mixology superb, and the prices zip code appropriate. As a night bar, it deserves a 4-5 stars. So the 3-star review is because of the food side of things, trying to be all things to all people. read more

Every time I search for bars or coffeeshops by Embarcadero, Cafe Terminus keeps coming up. I finally made it here for a drink with a friend, and I'm so glad to cross it off my list. Chill place to hang out. Groups move chairs and tables around into an annoying disarray. I went straight to the bar to order a beer. I didn't feel particularly welcome, especially with the drunk stranger next to me trying to make a move. His friends obviously felt uncomfortable, and I wish the bartender had done something to at least acknowledge this was happening. He didn't seem to be paying much attention to anything anyways. Beer selection is standard. I just had a Lagunitas IPA. The biggest plus is outdoor seating so you can drink and observe the world at the same time. That's where my friend and I had a conversation, as it was a lovely evening in San Francisco. I wouldn't come here again. I'd rank it slightly lower than average. Great spot for coffee, oatmeal, pastries, and conversation. The coffee here is just brew from a thermos, but its perfectly good. That said, I wouldn't come here for the roast, especially with so many exceptional roasting places nearby. I would come for the oatmeal though...lots of berries and cherries and nuts. Mine was a deep purple stew of oats and fruits. I skipped the brown sugar, which was fine because the berries made it plenty sweet and brown sugar would have masked those flavors. They also serve one or two egg dishes, which looked pretty awesome. It looked like the egg brkfst options rotate based on what the kitchen wants to prepare each day. You don't have tons of brkfst choices here, it is more of a "hey, whatcha serving?...ohh, that sounds good!" kinda deal. I would also visit Cafe Terminus when I'm looking for a little less rushed place to sit and have a coffee mtg with a friend or for networking. There's no loud music and no one calling out, "Duane, I have a large frozen haff-caff macchiato for Duane!" They have comfortable seats and nice little tables inside, plus you can sit at bar stools if you'd prefer. The Yelp reviews show that Cafe Terminus is also a bar by night...will have to go back sometime for that, too. read more

I was walking past Terminus this morning on my way to work and noticed that all the plyboard was down, BUT NOW it seems that the City Of San Francisco wants their blood from another small business!! From the notice I read, Terminus is not able to serve spirits (hard alcohol) due to some B.S. the City of SF is accusing them of, and also accusing Terminus for non compliance, also B.S. IMHO!! COVID-19 has hurt so many of our small businesses, and this is just another blow to another small business, I will be at Terminus on Friday after work to support them in any way I can. Hang in there Terminus!! I wandered in here one day after work on a Sunday, and immediately loved it!! Bartenders are super friendly and chill, other customers are pretty laid back, good cocktails and wine(s). Happy hour when there was one before covid lol! read more

Everyone else ordered cocktails which they seemed to enjoy. My friends like dark so they gravitated towards the metro. I thought it was just a tad too sweet for my liking. The space is small, but we came late on a Friday night, so it was pretty slow. We easily found a table for our party of 7. Ordered drinks at the bar and brought them back to the table. 2.5 stars. Review is for drinks at night, not the food. Stopped by this place a few weeks ago for one last drink with a coworker. Like most places in SF, it's a pretty small establishment. The crowd inside was packed with people who all had the "thirsty Thursday" mentality coming straight from work in suits. Man was it crowded; there was nowhere to move. The one restroom is located in the rear left side and held a steady line the entire time I was there. Bartenders were friendly, however, when I instructed one of them how to make this drink I learned how to make in Mexico, he took what I told him and put a spin on it and adding things I didn't tell him to add. There is a fierce competition in this area when it comes to bars. There is a long list of good bars to choose from, yet Cafe Terminus is a place that I would recommend visiting, although not staying at throughout the evening. Great spot to hang out in before heading out to other spots. Location: Located on the corner of Drumm and California street, near the Ferry Building, it is a spot, that you might walk by if you're not paying attention. As with this location in general, parking can be a nightmare nearby. Wait times: Technically I have never waited to be here, by the virtue of the space being small and having barely any seating. Even if the place is crowded, you can always walk up to the bar and get service. Ambience: The place is small. It has 3 tables that seat people, and a couple of bar stools at the bar. Everyone else stands. I do not mind it particularly much, because we usually stay over for a drink or two and move some place else, but I believe it would be bothersome to spend the entire evenings standing. Service: The bartenders are pretty good and the service is usually pretty fast. Food(Drinks): Although I have heard they have a food service, I have actually never ordered food here. The drinks were great. They had some great beers (local and otherwise) on tap. The Manhattans were spot on. Overall, great spot to hang out and have couple of drinks (before you move on to another place when your feet start to hurt :D). read more

Visited Terminus twice this week and ordered the following: Latte ($3) - Just average Coffee ($2) - I had high hopes since they roast their coffee. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. After placing my order, the lady gave me a cup to get my own coffee from the air pot. That's not why I was disappointed though...I was disappointed because the coffee wasn't strong and it had a sour taste. YUCK! Blueberry Muffin ($3.50) - I got lucky because the muffins just came out of the oven. I don't think I've ever eaten a muffin that's still hot/warm. It's reasonably priced too as the muffin is huge! It was a tad too sweet for me, but otherwise, A-OK! Hours on Yelp are still not accurate. The girl who works there told me they open at 8:30 a.m., but the text I received from Cafe Terminus said 8:00 a.m. To be on the safe side, I suggest getting there at 8:30 a.m. read more

Terminus was a great hidden gem for grabbing lunch in the Fidi. Their kale salad with chicken was a great deal at $12-$13 but with their recent price changes it's now $19. Unfortunately it's just not worth the price anymore when you can get specialty salads with protein at other locations in the Fidi for less. Hopefully Terminus reevaluates their pricing as they're losing a lot of long-term loyal customers with these new prices. read more

We came here around 1 am hoping to grab a bite as yelp showed this place as the only place that was open till 2 am. Our mistake! The person at the bar was rude and did not tell us until after much inquiry that only a couple of items were available as the kitchen was closed. When we canceled the order he put his hands up, made a face as if we had committed perjury so much so that I had to apologize to him for canceling the order so he doesn't come after me with a bat or worse! Horrible experience won't come back here even if they offered a free meal. read more

Its like looking forward to a birthday present from your man. You are looking forward to it, he even seems excited to give it to you, it is wrapped beautifully....then you open it, and it is a vacuum cleaner. A nice vacuum cleaner even, but it just isn't what you were wishing for or expecting. Maybe I'm still miffed about the closing of Canteen, and never having that stuffed french toast again. But this is another copycat Sentinel, with a 50% more limited menu. I had the pork sandwich with citrus and mint. It was that same great roll he used with the black and white sesame seeds, the pork was good, it was a tasty sandwich from anywhere else, but I expect more from Denis (and my boyfriend - do NOT get me a vacuum cleaner for my birthday). So 3 stars might be kinda harsh, but it does mean "A-OK" and it is, But every other review to day is a perfect score of 5 so we need a little balance. read more

I came here on a Tuesday when the entire city was packed for a tech convention and was fortunate to find a place here. Below are some notes for fellow Yelpers - Full bar that serves beer, wine, whiskey and a range of delicious cocktails - There's decent amount of seating for smaller groups [2-4 people] but this isn't meant to seat large groups. You can always just hang out at the bar. - Noise levels are really low so if you're looking to catch up with your folks after a long time, this surely is your place. - Huge shout out to the folks working at the bar .. kind, fast and efficient :-) - They've got only one restroom [which is gender neutral] if that matters - I haven't tried the food here so can't comment much. read more

Staying at a near by hotel for a conference and decided to stop by this Cafe/Bar-- what intrigued me most was the music and the game being played on tv, it really created a good vibe in this establishment. Not big on knowing my cocktail names or choosing liquor so the gentleman working the bar told me he'd surprise me and made me my new favorite drink, "French martini". Came in after work and you know it can get crazy and be like omg I need a drink! This place has a very cool vibe but what made it best was Nicks awesome customer service. It wasn't just a hey what's up, it was more of a hey how are you now was your day and get to know you so you can be a regular the next time! He practically made the best old fashion ive ever had and that I've never said before! The old fashions come with High west and yes that's the well. Right? Came here for a last minute drink and actually thought this was a different place when I told my friend to meet me here. It was packed on a Tuesday around six and had to stand near the bathroom. This place is pretty narrow and gets really busy although I am not sure why because I didn't think it was anything special in terms of ambiance or decor or anything. I feel like it's just a simple bar. No fancy cocktails but the bartenders were very nice and relatively quick. Would only come back here if I had to as nothing stood out much. read more

I was was at concentra clinic to get a TB TEST after my test I was hungry and went next door to grab lunch. From the minute I walked in the guy behind the bar started to stare at me like I was the Plunge . So I started to order my sandwich And before I finished he said DO YOU HAVE MONKEY POX? I then said you do not have the right to ask that kind of questions. I said it's against HIPA. He then asked what is HIPA. I have a skin disease that bumps grow on my arms . Which I did not share which is my right. Please hep support me by not eating at this place for 30 days . Tough to rate this one. All depends on what you're looking for. After work happy hour location is great but with both doors open, the cigarette smell got overwhelming inside. Wafts of green bud radiated through the establishment a few times in the 2 hours that we were there. Were they smoking in the kitchen or what? Dice game crowd got very loud to the point of annoying. Most folks in the crowd were nice and pleasant but the noisy ones made it tough to enjoy the overall experience. On the bright spot, $8 happy hour pints, $12 mules - pricing is reasonable for the location. Makes it worth a second attempt in a few weeks. Maybe the air will clear by then! read more
