Just had a lovely Sunday breakfast. Scrambled egg on brown toast, delicious coffee, fresh orange juice, boyfriend had a bacon baguette. Fab French feel, nice setting, warm service, great prices compared to most cafés in the area. Local and would defiantly go back :)

Brilliant French cafe. You can buy fresh baggettes in the morning and a great breakfast. Nice atmosphere.

This is just how my life seems to go, but no sooner had Cafe 2050 opened its minimalist white doors…read morethan I upped and moved from 5 minutes walk to a 20 minute bus ride away. Hmph. My relocation is to blame for my tardiness in making my first visit, but now I've sampled it and been impressed I'm making plans to drag friends along with me next time. Located towards the top end of a scuzzy-looking parade of shops, you'd be forgiven for turning back too soon and missing out on Cafe 2050 altogether. Walk those extra few steps though and you'll be rewarded by a little haven of calm off a busy main road. As you enter, a sideboard packed with pastries beckons, the scent of coffee lingers in the air and subtle dance music plays in the background. A mix of bleached and white wood serves for tables and chairs and pretty canvases adorn the walls. Foodwise, there's a more interesting variety than usual, with French and German breakfast platters as well as smaller snacks like toast, bagels and fruit and yoghurt. The lunch menu includes paninis, croque monsieur, home-made soup and quiche (specials change daily). So far so yummy, but it's the little things about a place that make me want to come back, and at Cafe 2050 one of those little things is the way they serve their jam: in a big jar with a spoon. Another is that the wifi works instantly - it's the sort of place I can imagine spending the whole morning, my hard work fuelled by the wonderful coffee.

Really nice cafe, good coffee and amazing bread for sale to take or in sandwiches etc. Staff are…read morefriendly and polite.
