I have been hearing about Cafe Seolhwa's Bingsu for a very long time and my curiosity to try it grows. As of last year, Korean food has been fascinating Filipino tastebuds with Korean restaurants popping up here and there, and the Bing Su craze just starting.
Bing Su is the Korean version of the Taiwanese's Bing Sha, or can even be compared to the local Halo-Halo. It is usually shaved ice with milk or cream then topped with your choice of toppings (usually fruits), or even ice cream. The difference with Bing Su among the version of other countries are the unique flavors it adds like rice cake and grain powder.
Looking at all those mouth-watering pictures, it took me awhile before deciding on what to order. We finally ended up ordering Pat Bing Su (red beans and rice cake) and Mango Cheese Bing Su (mango and cheesecake), as recommended by my friends.
True enough, the taste of their Bing Su is heavenly. The perfect snack for the country's hot temperature. The shaved ice was shaved so fine and fluffy that it easily melts and cools your mouth. The texture is so smooth and creamy that a spoonful of it in your mouth feels like a refreshing snow melting, a stroke of winter snow can be felt. It was a good experience.
The Pat Bing Su has a unique flavor with the sweet red beans and chewy rice cake, but the Mango Cheese is definitely a must-order. The mangoes are sweet and juicy and complements with the saltiness and sourness of the cream cheese. I love it so much that I want to order it again, but thinking it would be way better with the cheese. I'll reserve that for my next order.
I got all excited about the bing su, I forgot to order some of their ice-blended drinks, they all looked so good and refreshing. The ddokbokki looks great as well. That only means I have to visit again to try the other dishes I missed. Till the next time! read more
