We stumbled across this little French bakery tucked away in a cozy nook after an evening walk on the boardwalk while looking for a late-night coffee. The latte was well made with a real espresso machine. It wasn't the best coffee I've ever had, but it was solid, enjoyable, and exactly what we were looking for. What really impressed us, though, was learning that they make fresh stuffed croissants every morning. The next day, I got up early and waited in line, and now I understand why it's so popular. I tried one of each, and every single croissant was incredibly fresh, buttery, and delicious. My personal favorites were the spinach and cheese and the ham and cheese croissants. They were outstanding. I didn't try the sweet varieties, but they looked amazing and were flying off the shelves. I also grabbed another coffee, and it was just as good as the night before. Cute little sandwich shop on a walking alley shopping street called Penny Lane. Service is walk-up to a deli-style counter where you can get gourmet coffees, teas, sandwiches and treats. I was, however, suitably impressed with the amount of Nutella and bananas I received inside my crepe, which made for a satisfying treat. Sit in the sun or the shade depending on what time you eat. Serves savory and sweet crepes; savory are tough to come by, especially in my neck of the woods. Ordered egg, ham, and cheese crepe; crepe was light and fluffy, ham was cold cut ham but that's fine as it fits the crepe better than chunks, egg was scrambled right on top, and a mountain of swiss cheese piled high. They ask if you want salt, pepper, and thyme finished inside, said yes to salt and pepper, but no to thyme. Service is great; food is made fresh so be patient as there will be a line waiting. However, it won't take too long to receive your food, less than 10 minutes. Chefs change gloves after every transaction because they handle money too. It's comforting to see chefs that practice food safety and understand that aspect of food service. Great crepes, will always have one for breakfast when I visit Rehoboth Beach. read more

When my husband and I woke up one morning during our vacation here in Rehoboth, we wanted to go to where the locals go - Cafe Papillon. We were told that we would have to get here early enough to beat the summer heat and the waiting in line, so we got up and were promptly on line at 8AM. Always - always - ALWAYS - waiting on this line, and get the crepes. Crepes for breakfast isn't usually a norm for me, but this was something I could totally get used to! While we were waiting, we realized that only one person was making a crepe at a time, but we didn't move from our spot in line. We knew this place had to be something special if people were talking about revolving their day around when they would get the crepes and about what time they would finish them. These are my kind of people! About a half hour later - it was our turn to watch the magic happen! We opted for the egg, ham, and cheese crepe, and the smoked salmon, egg and cheese with chives - no tomato (the tomatoes are raw; not my thing). Our favorite was by far the smoked salmon. The fluffy yet elastic dough of the crepe married to the egg and salmon was really delightful. Savory and decedent; you can taste the butter. SOOOO GOOODDDDD!
