Brew recently opened a branch in Chiswick and I popped in for brunch this weekend. They offer a…read moremodern Turkish-fusion menu alongside other more commonly found breakfast options such as blueberry pancakes and eggs benedict etc. The menu has a great selection and is a little more unusual than most competitors'. There were three of us and we ordered the boiled eggs with toasted sourdough, the blueberry pancakes, the toasted banana bread with honeyed yoghurt & pistachios along with the granola with roasted plum & yoghurt. The boiled eggs were cooked to perfection but for £7.90 for two eggs and a slice of toast I'd expect them to be! The toasted banana bread with yoghurt was a good sized portion and I have it on good word that it's delicious. My blueberry pancakes were amazing! The best I've had by far, they were so thick but light and fluffy. Granola was delicious though a little claggy to eat after a few mouthfuls due to the thickness of the yoghurt, it could probably have benefited from some more honey or similar. Overall our food was delicious and the service was great, the only reason I've not given 5 stars was due to the price. £8.90 for three blueberry pancakes plus £7.90 for two boiled eggs really seemed steep to me! The menu also offered a toasted bagel, croissant OR sourdough bread with butter & preserves for £4.90. Considering there are other businesses on the same stretch of road offering very similar menus for a lower cost I feel that I'd probably not put Brew as a first choice purely due to their pricing. The atmosphere and decor inside are delightful and there's also a small cinema on the premises showing films each Wednesday and offering craft beers plus wood fired pizza. I'm yet to visit for dinner but if (or more likely when) I do then I'll be sure to update my review accordingly!

Great little pub opposite the pond in Barnes and a great place to go in the summer. Nice outside area that is also well heated, so you can still sit outside most of the time apart from the sub zero evenings. Smallish in size it has two bar area's and then a fair few tables to sit and chat or get some of the improving food. Probably the best pub in Barnes (certainly to my knowledge) it is always busy after work/ early evening and also at the week-ends. There are not many reasons to go to Barnes, there isn't great shopping it is a pain to get too and not a lot goes on here. But if you find yourself over that way it is certainly worth a visit.

I mean, they sell so many beers, and seem to keep adding more to their list, it's nearly unbelievable. There are real ales, fruit beers, European beers (including three of my favourites, Leffe, Duvel and Erdinger), a chocolate beer, three ciders on tap, endless shelves of bottles... and Burt's crisps! Burt is very good at making crisps. What a wonderful bar snack. If it's more then crisps you're after, the menu aint half bad, either. Different burgers and sandwiches and salads are on offer as well as a couple of vegetarian offerings, the classic fish and chips, roast chicken and sausages as well... And as if that wasn't enough, the atmosphere is great, there are little cosy alcoves in which to sit on a winter's evening, and a great selection of board games to wile away a Sunday afternoon. 5 stars indeed. That said, it's not because the service lacks a certain urgency, but more because the three people working behind the counter are run off their feet by the number of hungry customers wanting a hearty lunch. In short, it gets busy here. Busy, yes, but for very good reason. Not only does Roy, the owner and chef, prepare all the dishes daily and to order, but these dishes don't skimp out with fashionably minute portions or excessive amounts of sauce. A popular favourite is the macaroni cheese - a perfect winter warmer if you enjoy lashings of strong cheddar melting over the pasta. You'll even find the odd garlic mushroom and piquant tomato nestling amongst the bechamel so it's a far cry from Kraft Dinner. The cakes are also pretty awesome, and the lemon drizzle cake that I had the other day had that perfect combination of crust (read: thick and sugary) and soft lemon sponge (read: you can taste the lemon rind in the mixture). Equally so with the brownies which a colleague of mine has an especially soft spot for. Sandwiches are huge, tasty and home made, as is the soup, which changes every day. Summertime is great as they put together their own seriously lemony traditional lemonade, and the churchyard next to the cafe is perfect for lounging around in on sunny days. The cosy sofas and chairs, contemporary art on the wall and numerous flyers advertising London's more left-field events make for a great place to meet up, sit down and enjoy a hearty lunch in a bustling, quirky cafe, whatever the weather. Just make sure you get on the right side of the staff, and you'll be fine. I got shouted at for not calling out when my food was ready and it was like being back at school again.
