I usually only review a place after a couple of visits. But due to this place being in another town (Tulsa, and I live in OKC), and it might be years before I go back...this is a one shot review. My apologies if you weren't up to your usual snuff on the day I visited Cafe Ole. I can't say the food was amazing, or unique, or new in any way. I can say the service was really good. Our warm and welcoming waitress made up for some lack in the food. We tried the White Queso dip, it was interesting. Very creamy, and cheesy. I think mixing it with the salsa helped boost the flavor a bit. Maybe a few more green chilis in the dip would turn up the heat a bit. It seemed more cream cheese than chilis, it needs some kind of kick, in my opinion. Next we ate the Pork Relleno, with a corn "cake", black beans, rice, and a side of guacamole and green salsa. The relleno was very small, and I hardly noticed any pork in it at all. Sadly it was greasy to boot. It was sitting a pool of oil when it was delivered on the plate to our table. All told the poor little thing was maybe four bites big. The black beans were good, but wasn't aware they were served with sour cream on top (my husband is lactose intolerant and therefore couldn't eat most of them). They were nothing to write home about. The rice was good, but also nothing special. The corn "cake"...didn't really seem like a cake? I was expecting a little fried corn cake, like a cornbread pancake or such. But this was a pile of crumbled cornbread in a tamale wrapper, topped withe more sour cream. It was disappointing. The guacamole was really good. I might have hogged too much of it because I liked it so much better than everything else. If a friend of mine in Tulsa wants to go here again I won't turn it down. But there are so many other good places to get food in T-town I probably won't suggest going there on my own. read more

Eaten here twice and disliked it both times. The restaurant tries to be a higher end Mexican restaurant, but really serves food that is less appetizing than Señor Tequila. I ordered basic tacos that came out a little soggy. The taste was fine, but not enough for me to finish my plate. We sat on the patio which was covered, but still pretty chilly since it was a colder evening. The inside of the restaurant was tiny, which was why we chose a more open seating plan. We had to readjust our seats to be under the heating lamp, which made the experience that much less enjoyable. I recommend that you choose a different restaurant if you're leaning towards Mexican food. read more

First time here for Sunday brunch. I've been here several times for lunch on other occasions. Ordered the Cafe Olé tacos with cheese grits from the brunch menu. I liked that the tacos were simply the ingredients I chose and gave me the option to add condiments. As a person to whom Cilantro tastes like soap I greatly appreciate not having to pick cilantro out of the entrée. The cheese grits were the best I've ever had. The cheese, onions, corn, and grits were blended into smooth deliciousness with a bit of creamy texture that hit the spot. read more

Tucked away off Briokside you'll find some yummy southwest/Texmex/Mexican food. The queso is really good but totally unique-a thick blend of cream cheese, peppers and I'm sure some other fun things, it's served warm and is best with some sliced jalapeños! We shared the tortas cubano, a mixture of shredded pork and beef, topped with chihuahua cheese and guacamole on a hearty bun. Very flavorful! We also shared a pork quesadilla. Perfect amount of cheese and the pork was cooked nicely and flavorful. The chips, salsa and guacamole are all good but not my favorite in town. The patio is a nice atmosphere, can be a little cramped when full but they have heaters, fans, a fireplace and plastic curtains they can close so it's always comfortable. This was my third or fourth visit and the staff is always very nice and quick to help. Give Cafe Ole a try! read more

I don't want to say it's the best Mexican food I've had in Tulsa, but it's the freshest Mexican food I've had in Tulsa. Everything tasted authentic and the queso was off the charts. I love this restaurant but the evening staff has been terrible on twice now. Tonight, aside from blatantly rushing our meal, the waitress, Angie, was standoffish and refused to acknowledge my party except to take our order and bring the check. Refilling water was even an issue for Angie, which was solved when we went to the front of house to ask for a refill. The food was stellar, but the atmosphere unwelcoming as a result of the wait staff. Looking inside from the patio, the entire staff seemed to be more focused on cleaning house an hour before closing rather than attending to patrons. I've been going here since the early '90s when Mean Maggie ran the patio with an iron fist. The stacked blue corn enchiladas (with the obligatory burnt cheese around the edge of the plate), along with their unique queso and house margaritas are a must. It's not really Santa Fe style, but a good attempt. The food is usually incredible (assuming it arrives as ordered); the service is usually shitty (served with a sarcastic smile); and overall it's a good deal for your money (after you make sure to have them delete mysterious items from your bill). Set your expectations on the lower end and they might get exceeded. read more

I've spent many of nights getting carried away on the patio with good company at Cafe Ole. The vibe here is very laid back and just super comfortable. Anytime I'm in town (if I don't have time to stop in for a meal) I get a couple tubs of white queso with jalapeños to go. The queso is THAT good. Second experience here and the service is just beyond lacking, however the food itself is good. The staff are not friendly, and tonight the hostess was not inclined to even offer a suggestion about where might be the warmest area to sit ("wherever you want" ???). Since this was only our second time, we were not made aware that it was $2 Tuesday, as the menu does not have this information either (it can be found on a 3-sided stand up display which you have to turn to read all aspects). Queso came out right before the meal. Parts of order incorrect. My suggestion - pick up TO GO if ordering. We will certainly not make the mistake of dining in again. read more

I always think of Cafe Ole's patio when the weather is nice. I went on a Sunday to try their brunch on an unseasonably cool August morning. It wasn't too crowded, but we only had a party of 3, so we were sat outside on the sidewalk, which was fine with us. However, I had the worst service I've ever experienced at one of my favorite restaurants. I was so disappointed because I had expectations of a great brunch and it was such a let down. We asked several times for silverware, and our waitress never brought any, we ended up having to get some off of an empty table. We had empty water glasses and had to ask several times for refills and our check. Just frustrating all the way around. Our food was great, but it's frustrating that if this was my first time here, I wouldn't come back easily. I'm giving them 3 stars because of all the times I've been there and the great food I've experienced, but I'd have to do a 1 star if it were just for the service. Hopefully they'll get that figured out and pay some more attention to those that are sitting out not he sidewalk. read more

After sitting at our table for 15 minutes with no service, I finally went in to tell the man who sat us down outside that we hadn't been served yet. We waited another 5 minutes while more staff members came outside and no one came out to us even though there were only 4 other tables occupied. As we left, I complained and a server said,"we were just coming out now...". By that point we had sat there for 20 minutes and didn't even have water while several servers were sitting down and talking inside and more came and went outside. Very disappointing service! UPDATE: I've since been back 5 times and never once have had my food order come out right nor have I been charged the same price for anything. Was charged $41 tonight for 6 tacos with fajita chicken and waters. That was it and it's normally like $16-$18. Thankful Torchy's Tacos are going in across the street! We have no problem taking our friends there instead. read more

I used to love this place and ate here every Sunday for lunch. The last two visits in a row, the kitchen was totally disorganized, the food mediocre, and the service non-existent. I waited today for an hour and ten minutes to get a plate of runny eggs. Had to beg for a refill of water. They were out of pancake batter. After 5 years in Tulsa, I've finally found my favorite Mexican restaurant. I've tried all the local haunts that everyone directed me to, and for the most part they were all good, but not great like the Mexican food I loved back in OKC. Cafe Ole changed that. I especially recommend going on Tuesday nights where you can sample several small plates for $2 a piece. Our waiter even told me about the $1 Blue Moon special on Tuesdays after I ordered another beer. He easily could have let me order something more expensive and I appreciated the gesture. I've eaten at this place for over a decade. I love how it's tucked away and has a nice patio. I've always gotten the stacked blue corn enchiladas, my fav. I don't care for their tortilla chips; they remind me of Mama Lupe chips from Walmart. I recently had the Tres Leches Cake. Ahhhhhmazing! I'm not a cake or cupcake person and this blew me away. Apparently it's made from scratch every day or every other day. This is definitely going to be a must have every time I visit from here on out. read more

Outside seating is nice. Food wise you got to try the queso w/ chorizo. Fajita are great and beef isn't chewy. Staff is kind of slow overall so be prepared for dinner to be longer than average. It's a pretty small restaurant, it gets backed up during peak periods. read more

I love Mexican and Tex-Mex food. I love eating organic and healthy, but this was terrible. When eating healthy, food can still be flavorful (flavorful not meaning spicy hot). This was the equivalent to when I went on a fat-free diet, eating non-fat cheese, 98% fat-free meat and whole wheat tortillas. Both my friend and I tried everything off of each other's plate for brunch, my favorite meal, and the best thing, among the salsa, chips, guacamole and both of our plates was the buttered bread. The food was good, nothing particularly stood out to me. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, asked for no onions, got onions anyways on my sandwich. Asked for my side to be rice, got fruit. Which in the end that was fine, I like fruit, but not what I asked for. It also took over 15-20 mins to even get our order.
