My daughter and I were recently in the area on a Monday morning prior to our respective flights home. (My parents live a few blocks from here, so we are very familiar with this stretch of Victoria and Sherbrooke, going to the Metro and other stores here daily when we visit). My kid really needed a coffee BAD and we planned on getting one and some pastries at Cafe Bazan, across the street on Victoria. We love Bazan and we were so bummed to discover that it was CLOSED on Mondays. We noticed some folks drinking coffees at a small outdoor patio across the street, here at Myriade, and although I'd never been in here before, desperate times call for desperate measures, so we ran inside.
It did not disappoint!
I was initially thrown back by the tiny size of the restaurant interior and, also, by how small the selection of foods and drinks was. There were only a few croissants and large cookies in the display case, and the overhead menu only listed a handful of beverages. (I should add this was fairly early on a Monday morning, too. Not late in the day, when pastries and foods would be sold out). Furthermore, the folks behind the counter were not particularly friendly. We got no greeting or smile or anything when we entered, or when we placed our orders or paid.
I ordered the one remaining almond croissant to go, and my kid ordered some sort of latte with some sort of non-cow milk (I can't keep up with all the newfangled milk alternatives).
My kid used to be a barista at a big chain coffeeshop (the biggest chain lol) and she's way more familiar with coffees than I - and way more particular. And she said the coffee here was fantastic. She was very impressed with her beverage. From her, this is a resounding recommendation.
As for the almond croissant, it was excellent.
I still prefer Bazan as there is SO much more selection when it comes to food and drink options, and the folks there are more friendly, and there is a lot more room to sit and dine (inside and out). BUT the coffee is excellent here at Myriade - probably better, even, - and the few pastries they have here are great, AND - here's the clincher, - Myriade is open on Mondays. Good to know! read more
