I absolutely love this place! And all for a very affordable price :) I sat in the glorious sunshine and basically inhaled a plate of avo, scrambled eggs, feta, softened onions and crispy fired potatoes. With balsamic, because that's how I roll - this plate was worthy of better than mere ketchup! I also indulged in a small but decadent latte, and asked for 'a big water' - so they bought me a nice little jug of tap (which is great, I was nervous they might try the hard sell on bottled - I don't pay for water!). I'd had a chance to eye up the cake counter as I entered, and I could not stop myself from ordering a slice of the lemon meringue pie - it was my favourite dessert as a child and it's been so long since I had some! I was served a HUGE portion, and though it was tasty it just wasn't quite everything I hoped it would be... Probably more my skewed memory than any fault of Ally's Kitchen! The meringue was light as air (but I like mine with more substance), with a lovely browned crisp outer edging. The lemon curd was sweet but still refreshingly tangy, and unfortunately the base was ever so slightly soggy as the lemon filling was quite juicy! I would also say the portion size was a bit unecessary, but who am I to complain about that? I would rather a smaller slice and a smaller price though (£5??) Anyway, overall my experience was delightful - I am hoping to move to the area soon, and will definitely pay another visit or two to this cute, friendly little cafe! My bill totalled £16, including my option to add just over 10% tip. Not bad at all!

High Tea of Highgate could possibly be my fondest memory of London. Nestled in the quaint,…read morepicturesque Highgate neighborhood, HT is delightful to both the eyes and the palette. The owner bakes and serves up a delectable selection of sweets like Victorian Sponge cake and the most delicious scones I've ever tried. Her teas are phenomenal as well. This place was my ideal tea time experience. I hope they have a long life here, and visit as soon as you can. Lovely!

I have been looking forward to going to High Tea of Highgate for a while now so it was in great…read moreanticipation that I went! Everything was wonderful, except for one thing which I will mention after the positives. It is a gorgeous little place, it doesn't look like there is much seating when you first walk in, but there is a little room in the back with a couple of tables which was a nice surprise. The girls who worked there were lovely, very helpful and polite. I had a pot of English Breakfast which was great and the little cow creamer pours so well that I was actually tempted to buy a 22.50 pound cow creamer! I ordered a scone with jam and clotted cream - scone was good, however they had something powder on it which I first thought was cinnamon and sugar, but unfortunately I think they had flour powdered on it which never tastes that good, but it was still a nice scone. Jam was good - quite chunky for me, but maybe not for others. And here comes the big disappointment...their clotted cream was not made in house, which meant that it was in a container and the cream was crusty on the top and liquidy underneath. I can buy this at Sainsbury's and I do not like liquidy clotted cream, it just doesn't seem right! Unfortunately I will not be back for this reason - although actually it might be nice to try their cakes, those looked wonderful!
