This is my second time here. My family comes here alot and they absolutely love it! My last meal…read more(breakfast) was kinda of a let down.. i got the chicken fried steak. The eggs and hashbrowns were good. The the chicken fried steak was way overdone and really hard. The center had a few editable bites. I would with out a doubt go back again but would never order the chicken fried steak.... They do several different meals/snacks in flights where you get to try something (mac and cheese, hotdogs, sliders...ect ) multiple different ways. I love the idea of that In the defense of woody's my waitress asked if everything was ok towards the end of the meal but by that point i wasent interested in sending it back ... its ok , it was probably just an off day

This is not going to be an easy review to write. I have so many conflicting thoughts and…read morefeelings... reviewing a restaurant should never be this dramatic! Seriously though... speaking as someone who was a partner in two restaurants in NYC for 4 years, who does not claim to "know it all" but knows some tricks of the trade... I think they've got great potential and would like to share my thoughts with them. Saying they've "got potential" probably come across as smug, obnoxious, and ridiculous, especially because they've got like 4.6 stars here on Yelp! And that's mainly why I found myself here... Staying in Mansfield for the night, I looked up restaurants that were enroute to our hotel. Some of them had 3 or 3.5 stars and I said "no way." But 4.6 stars with as many reviews as The Farmer's Table has? Absolutely! The atmosphere is a little bit diner but cozy enough and has the farm as a theme. There are some cool design elements, like the steel ceiling, the tables... The bathroom was clean and well stocked, and that's a really good sign that the place is sanitary and organized. The waitress was really, really nice... and we loved that we were in this tiny little town and yet she had this really cool, funky image. Great fingernails! I'm jealous! A tip for her to make service even better... think about sequence of service. Think about the extras that the customer will want with the specific thing they ordered so that they won't have to bother you. If they order something with fries, definitely put ketchup on their table, and do it before the food is delivered. There were also a lot of empty tables with salt shakers, but it's had none. Some customers notice these little things and appreciate a server who anticipates their needs. On the other hand, maybe she was just really slammed busy before we got there. My wife and I waited like 2 minutes for her to take my order and she apologized profusely for having us wait so long for her. I was like, "am I in Manhattan or wut???" She was on point, generally easy to find when we needed her, she was never trying to hide from customers (a huge no-no) and very well-intentioned. Definitely a keeper. The food though... I was surprised we didn't like it very much being the reviews were so good. When I got the check to pay, I asked the server what their most beloved and popular dishes are. She said that ppl order a lot of the prime rib sandwich, and also the cat fish. Incidentally, I had ordered the prime rib sandwich, and my wife had the breaded cat fish. I was expecting a lot more meat on my sandwich, and the bun was just a regular burger bun, but it was ok. It came with 3 slices of pickle and cost $11.90. I was still hungry after that so I finished my wife's catfish 'cuz she gets full easily. I liked the catfish more, but neither of us thought it was anything special. What was special were the prices. The catfish included 2 sides, and it cost less than $14. Being from NYC, it was so refreshing to see pricing that reminded me of year 2000! A burger for $7.85 that's not Burger King? Incredible! But the cole slaw... ewww. I didn't hate it, but I kind of forced myself to eat it even though it had a strange flavor. The sweet potato fries were ok. Everything was basically O.K. I imagine that, if I lived there, I would go pretty regularly cuz it's probably the best thing the neighborhood has in a few square miles, and it's easier and more fun than cooking at home (if you're not a cook and you're busy at work). But I think that some improvement in the food could make the place more of a destination. And a destination could actually bring more business to the surrounding businesses! I can understand if the townspeople want very basic food there, but at least offer a few specials that are fancier, better ingredients, something that stands out and is memorable. I know I'm spoiled coming from NYC... a 4.6 star review in places like Manhattan are different than a 4.6 star review in a small town. But this place has some nice things about it. Take it all the way!

I really wanted to like this restaurant. Their weekend breakfast buffet is small but has a nice…read morevariety of homemade food and is served until noon. We went a few Sundays in the late spring and had a good experience. When Knoebel's opened, the experience went downhill. We drew the line when we went in on a Sunday where large groups were present, and they apparently had no clue on buffet etiquette, or just didn't care. Cleanliness and food safety are huge to me after I got horrible food poisoning at another buffet in the area and spent 4 days in the ICU with it. While the buffet area itself was clean and the food was to temperature, there were many patrons taking dirty plates back up. We notified our server who just looked at us and kind-of shrugged and walked away. My husband approached one of them and said, "Please don't keep taking dirty plates back up to the buffet.". One of them chastised him and told him he was "nuts" and that he was lying that it's not OK to do that. Plates are not at the buffet - the server brings them, and will bring two sets at the beginning, and then will replenish when needed. When we left, we informed another server that it was gross to do that and they're opening themselves up for issues if the health department stopped by, she asked why we didn't say anything. We said that we did but the server didn't seem to care. She yelled "I care!" from behind a door, but that was enough for us to opt to not return until Knoebel's was closed for the year. We suggested that they consider keeping the plates at the buffet area to discourage that. We decided to try again recently. Not only was there a large group there taking their dirty plates back up, but they were also taking dirty utensils up and using them. I was 3/4 through my plate when I saw that and refused to eat any more. My husband again said something to them, and they just pretended as if he didn't hear. We again said something to the server and suggested that they need to put signs up saying to not take dirty plates back up, or again to put plates at the buffet, but I'm fairly confident nothing will be done. There are other reviews out there that bring up questions of cleanliness, which is concerning. Unsure whether we'll try to return or not. At 10 am, much of the hot side of the buffet was empty, and not restocked while we were there, which is another strike.

Since mine is there, I feel qualified to offer an opinion because it means I eat there frequently and consume all the menu has to offer not just one offering. No less than five different cooks have prepared my food and I have never sent back a plate, cup, bowl, or basket. I've been eating at this restaurant for a couple years and let me tell you William S's review says more about Willie than it does about the place. First off, the staff here work hard, and most of us locals appreciate that. Complaining about wait times and drinks like coffee and chocolate milk taking "too long" just sounds petty. Cold eggs and missing toast? That happens sometimes in any busy diner. Most people just ask politely and get it fixed. The owner pays the light bill and the wait staff will heat up anything you ask them to. As for the owner being "defensive," maybe she was just tired of being talked down to. There's a difference between giving feedback and acting like you're the food critic of a small-town breakfast joint. What Willie completely ignores is that the wait staff and owner are very community oriented. They often look after the old timers who come in daily, and they've even been known to feed the homeless when they can. During the Fireman's carnival they remove desserts off their menu and let the cake wheel have the business. They currently are making Christmas happen for several less fortunate children through their Wish List project. That kind of generosity matters more than nitpicking over toast. And honestly, given the level of crying Willie has done in his review, he might be better off sitting in a baby chair (THRONE) instead of the freshly re‑upholstered booths the rest of us are now enjoying. Let's be real: Willie writes like he's the self‑appointed "food critic of Lewisburg," still sore that the Country Cupboard closed and bitter that he can no longer critique the bonnet‑wearing waitresses there. Now he's taking out that frustration on the only diner left standing. Willie's review should be deleted because it mischaracterizes the attributes of the waitstaff, the food, and even the utensils found in this fine eatery. 1000's of people have eaten here. As for this regular, I'll be back in the morning -- despite Willie's small‑minded attempt to hurt the reputation of the Old Farmer's Table. It gets Five Stars from me only because I can't give it six.
