This is one of the best all around coffeeshop/cafes I've ever been to and I wish they'd export the Island flavor to the mainland. All the coffee is organic, shade grown and fair trade and it's excellent, though I'd prefer an even darker roast. They come up with new drinks all the time and you can sit forever with free wi-fi and free doggie biscuits for your 4 legged friend and even free reading glasses if you've forgotten yours. Who does that?!? Only on the Island I guess. You can even rent computer time if you don't have a laptop. The food is great - panini sandwiches are yummy and pastries are meltingly good. They even have vegan pastries. They also serve wine and beer at night and good soups. If it weren't for the fact I don't live on the island any more they'd have to kick me out at closing time. read more

I can't review the food since we just stopped in for coffee on the way home after taking a walk through town. We got a almond latte, cappuccino and hot chocolate and settled in for Saturday morning chatting on the lovely orange vintage couch. The cafe has a great small town vibe and they make a really good latte. I will stop in next time I'm in town for sure. read more

The last few times we have ordered there the drinks have come lukewarm and tasted like they came from a vending machine. Long lines and slow service are made worse by awful music on the stereo. Not my cup. One thing I will say in praise of this place is that they book music almost every weekend, though it tends to be the milquetoast variety to sooth the soft smiles of the island. read more

Average coffee/atmosphere, high prices. I confess I'm an off islander trying to do the local thing. Sorry, but I wasn't terribly impressed. The coffee took a while - we entertained ourselves by making sentences on their word wall and people watching. Coffee was run of the mill, a pricey $5 for a venti size mocha. Would have also liked it a bit hotter. Their menu had a selection of paninis, but since no one else was eating, I figured it might be for a reason...will probably try the OTHER coffee place next time. read more

Stood in line behind a man and his children for five minutes, when he was done ordering, the staff member was working on his order, the other staff member looked at me and my wife made eye contact and continued with wiping down stuff ignoring us. Then an obvious friend of hers walked in, went straight to the counter directly in front of us, the staff member stopped working and started chatting with the friend and then took his order. Great coffee served quickly by a very nice barista in a ridiculously cute space. That alone deserves 5 stars but when you take into account the AMAZING baked goods and a good selection of non-espresso drinks (matcha latte, hot spiced cider, chai) a visit here is really a "no-brainer". I don't know which cafe Fiona was eating at, but when we went to Cafe Luna for the first tome for lunch today, the staff were fast, friendly and extremely accomodating. Not Starbucks production line fast, but certainly not slow. Speaking of Starbucks... I drink there almost everyday, but they don't hold a candle to the fantastic hand crafted soy latte I had at Luna today. Lastly, the paninis were nice, with interesting fresh ingrediants. A note to the one-star reviewer: They were playing some of MY favorite music (Elbow) when I was there, so I give them Kudos for that! Food was good, service thoughtful. Great place to hang out while on the island. The two walls with plugs are often lined with people working on laptops (free WiFi) while locals and tourists come and go. The menu has plenty of yummy baked goods and a solid selection of lunch and breakfast foods. Service is always friendly and their taste in music is refreshing. The thing that makes Cafe Luna stand out to me is their selection of teas. Many coffee shops have a few boxes of Stash or some similar tea just because they're expected to. Tea is a first class citizen at Cafe Luna. They always have a pitcher or two of fresh iced teas on hand, but they also have up to two dozen quality teas that customers can browse (and smell). read more

This was a nice little cozy place. A little over priced but is expected for small businesses. My spicy chai tea was good but I wish it was a little warmer. My chorizo burrito was okay. I wish it would have some potatoes in there because the chorizo grease was just leaking at the bottom of my burrito. Again the pricing was high considering how small my burrito was. read more

Drip is good though there is only one type and it's usually acidic. Pastries are delicious and they have a wide selection of items on their lunch menu. Beer, wines, snacks, and sandwiches served throughout the day. A warm and welcoming atmosphere with a very friendly staff. Couldn't be a decent coffee shop without WI-FI. read more

Saturday, buy 2 americanos and place seemed very nice. Sunday AM, the barista makes 3 triple latte when we order 2 triple americanos. Tried to talk us in to accepting the lattes and kept muttering about how they were just as good, so we ended up feeling bad about wanting what we ordered. Then when it was time to pay, she overcharged. Told her that yesterday these drinks were dollars less but she kept rattling off all the correct pricing and coming to the incorrect total. Well we'd already been there long enough and decided to give up. But after going through the figures later we figured out she was charging us for the latte's we didn't order. Despite all that, we were never rude nor loud. We're just simply not going back. read more

The service here is consistently slow, the baristas rude and the layout is cramped, so you're always bothered by others. The coffee is so/so and once they gave me real milk when I ordered soy. Café Luna is a lovely space with decent coffee and excellent bran muffins. Sadly, it's staffed by food-handling school dropouts whose coughing, bare-handed prep skills are baffling. If anyone where watching my reviews closely they would notice I did a lot more "fives" when I started out. I have a lot more to reference now, so most things I found as "fives" a few years ago deserve a solid three. It's not a diss. Qaulity has not gone down on most, but I find a three more realistic. Moving on. They have brought back their lavender lemonade for summer! I love this lemonade. I will listen to a thousand new mothers talk about ridiculous things like how awesome their baby's ability to poo is if I can have some of this lemonade. It was more like three, but it took close to five minutes for them to drag their reproducing tushies out of my way.Finally. My lemonade. If I had a chance to save a cafe on the island based on one drink it would be this one. If you like Lavender I recommend it. read more

Good: the coffee was good, fresh roasted did not disappoint, cute place with lots of seating and it looks like they sometimes have food. Bad, it took forever to get the coffee and they said the kitchen was closed (I was there early afternoon). There was only one person in front of me in line and two people behind the counter. They were chatting and I was in line a very long time, so long that another woman who only wanted to buy a soda, finally put the soda back in the cooler and left. She was previously in front of me, behind the chatter. I ordered and went to the bathroom. I came back and the foam had settle revealing only 3/4 cup of coffee. Sigh. She added milk to top off, so I had to wait for that too, which of course took a while. I had originally come in wanting to order food, but it was just as well that the kitchen was closed because I would have been in there until dinner waiting for that I suppose. Cute place, good coffee. Unfriendly staff who were very slow. Don't bother unless you have the day to spend in the place. read more

I ordered an earl grey tea with a dash of cream. The woman who made my tea poured in about 1/2 a cup full of cream. My boyfriend ordered a simple latte. The coffee was burnt. It was so bad that we threw them out, and went to another location. They took forever to serve us, so we stood there for a while as well. I will not return the next time I visit Vashon. read more

Came here due to the lack of a line. The baristas were stiff and awkward. The coffee was subpar, nothing special. The tuna melt I had was bland. One barista accidentally made an extra sandwich, and from what I could tell, went to apologize to her manager about it, and it sounded like the manager said it would come out of her pay check, which just made me super uncomfortable. The 2 stars are speediness of the service. read more

Firstly, overall, as the star rating shows, I think this is a great place and feel fortunate that we have such a hub of social life on Vashon. (It would be great if they'd play a little less reggae and blue-grass/country style music, however.) Specifically now, I"m evaluating the place In terms of food and as a place to take a laptop: 1)Food: As a vegan, I can't eat much there. They carry exactly one vegan baked good, and sorry but I cannot stomach the same breakfast cookie for 3 years running. They have bagels but no vegan spread for them, so, sorry, a dry bagel doesn't cut it. (Hummus they have, but how about something for breakfast hours-- jam, soy cream cheese, margarine?) From there it's a jump to $8 for the one sandwich that 'can be made vegan' (iow, they take off the flavorful stuff and you make do) or a salad, so the food -- the dearth of food options at an affordable $2-$5 and lack of vegan choices-- is the main reason I don't come more often to Luna. There are quite a number of vegans on Vashon, and given that this is the island's only cafe, gosh it would be great to incorporate a couple more vegan items. 2) Laptop friendly: Cafe Luna has that great, island-friendly vibe, making it a nice place to hang out, and to work, with one caveat-- you must bring your headphones. "Island-friendly" can often mean you get VERY loudly chatty people in there who assume everyone in the vicinity will also be enthralled to listen in on their conversation. And that may sometimes be, because practically everyone knows each other. But not cool if you're trying to focus. I know. It's a cafe, not an office, Just sayin'-- don't forget your headphones and you're golden. other compliments: they will sometimes play island musicians' CDs which is great to hear. Good enough coffee and chai drinks, though I always have to ask them to make them hotter. Great tea selection, and they actually do care if you like your drink. read more
