Our first time visiting Vashon island and we reached the place quite early around 8 am. There were not many breakfast places open so decided to make a quick stop for coffee before starting our day. We were surprised to see how friendly the locals were and started to give us many pointers on places to eat and explore. The locals were frequent visitors to the coffee place so that itself gave me an idea that the coffee will be great. We had cappuccino and cortado. Both were very well made. Apparently their cinnamon rolls are very popular but it was still arriving and we missed it. Having that perfect morning cappuccino and interacting with locals set the tone for our rest of the day. My husband (!) and I stayed in the Burton area for our mini-moon and the Burton Coffee Stand was recommended by our Airbnb hosts. We biked over from our little cabin over the water for morning coffee and pastries. The stand is located at a crossroads with the general store and has a walk-up window and small patio for seating. There were several locals with their dogs who seemed like regulars, as well as several visiting families. We were happily surprised to see the huge pastries in the display and to hear that they are from Snapdragon (another recommendation our hosts had given). We ordered a chai and a latte with one sweet and one savory pastry. The pastries were huge and good, but nothing crazy special. We also enjoyed our drinks! I stopped by Burton for some coffee and was intrigued that this is a humble coffee shop that is a coffee stand. There is not really a menu, according to the cashier, so I just went with the 8oz latte with salted caramel syrup. While there is no latte art, that is okay as the drink was prepared at lightning speed and they foam the milk very well so the entire drink is at just the right temperature to drink immediately. The barista had the worst attitude. She didn't seem too happy to have non-locals visiting her island. Three of us had the same conclusion. Then my sister in law went the next day and came back with the same story. Nothing rude was said but she just had complete stank face. After saying my order she just turned around and prepared it without saying a word. She handed me my coffee, I say thank you, again no response. Have been a big fan for as long as I've been visiting Vashon (going on seven years now, maybe eight). That said, I was disappointed during my recent visit to discover the barista was not wearing any sort of face covering, and neither were most of the customers at that time. I do realize there's a difference between outdoors and indoors, but I also believe it's important for folks to set a good example, and particularly in a location that so often hosts customers from off-island. For the time being, I plan to exclusively patronize the Roasterie up the highway, as they're encouraging healthy practices and their employees all seem to be wearing face coverings. read more

Love this local hot spot serving delicious homemade pastries and good strong coffee. It's busy all day long. The morning I went, I was thrilled to discover they had breakfast burritos. Got the sausage one and it was stuffed with eggs, potatoes, cheese and flavorful sausage. Only $5, it came heated and it was super yummy. Stopped after a long bicycling leg down the west side of Vashon. Was hoping for some hot lunch somewhere in Burton, but this is about it! The host was extremely friendly, patiently waiting while we navigated the delicious and extremely long list of coffee goods. Finally settled on an iced coffee for my mate and a good solid extra hot latte for me. Excellent coffee. The nice surprise was, despite being early afternoon, they had some residual breakfast burritos. I ordered the chorizo: was it amazing? Was I completely starved? Either way it was delicious. Nice ambience with small patio, chairs and lots of flower pots. Make this your road trip destination on your island day-trip. read more

Best coffee ever!!!! Starbucks tastes like absolute crap compared to this place. Their espresso is pure rocket fuel. A 16 oz iced caramel milk macchiato with a double shot lasted me 5 whole days of over 9000 energy. Even with all the ice melted it still tasted THE EXACT SAME. Great coffee, friendly people, and fabulous baked goods. We wandered around Vashon for the day and stumbled upon this great coffee stand. The owner was extremely friendly beyond just the "how's your day" small talk you normally get. Great coffee, and homemade pastries and sweets! We tried the gluten-free almond torte which was crunchy, chewy, bursting with marzipan-like almond flavor with toasted, slivered almonds baked on top. Also the cherry/apple bar which was good, but could have been a little more crispy for my taste. Don't miss this stop if you're out on Vashon. read more

When my cycling group goes for long rides we usually stop for coffee at about the halfway point to recharge on food and socialize. Every time we ride on Vashon we make sure to stop here. Great coffee and snacks. This time they had a gluten free almond cake...delicious! Lots of local flavor plus tons of other cyclists doing the same. Keep in mind there isn't a toilet, so you have to go down the street to the park or to the shop kitty corner from the coffee stand. An amazing gem of a coffee stand on Vashon. Great coffee, really good food choices(breakfast burritos are very tasty and reasonably priced)my wife loves the lavender scones. There is always a nice group of locals hanging out chatting away with a stream of bicyclist and travelers making a welcome pit stop. I did not have such a great experience at this establishment. As I stayed at the inn next door, and they have a deal with this stand for coffee/pastries, if I wanted my coffee paid for in the morning, I had to go to this location. The woman who runs the stand is very nice and friendly. She had a lot of options for food (breakfast burritos, many types of pastries, croissants, etc). I had tea both days, and my boyfriend had a vanilla latte. The latte was over sweet both days. I had banana bread one day, and a blueberry muffin the next. The muffin was good, the banana bread was burnt. My boyfriend had an apple strudel one day, and a scone the next. Both were lacking in flavor. It was strange, since she recommended the apple strudel, and it was not great. Definitely would have gone somewhere else if I had had a choice of other coffee shops that go along with my living social coupon. read more
