The portions are small and it's expensive. I also wasn't that impressed with the food, particularly the seasoning and sauces, and in my opinion that's the main reason to go to a French restaurant. The service was kind, but the owners kind of overly on top of you. More specifics on the food that I remember is that the French onion soup had red onions, which I normally don't see and don't think it was that great. The filet mignon was underwhelming and the sauce forgettable. The apple tart advertised having rosemary but didn't have any and was kind of bland. I wouldn't come here again. read more

This is a quiet little place off the main drag in Largo run by a husband and wife team (Linus & Yvonne), Swiss expatriates. Our party of 4 were greeted a half hour before our reservation by Yvonne herself at the front door. The cuisine is decidedly & competently French. Our party enjoyed Duck L'Orange, the Red Grouper, Filet Mignon with Peppercorn Sauce. This is one of the highest rated restaurants in the area. Service was personal and atmosphere quaint & intimate. read more

Great restaurant! Delicious food and cozy atmosphere. The service was excellent too. We had the pumpkin soup which was light and airy. The beef tartare was very good and the entrees were delicious and great portions. read more

Cafe Largo is a quaint high end restaurant for a one of a kind dinning experience. There's only a dozen or so tables which makes it feel that much more special. You'll be greeted by one of the new owners. Yep, new ownership this is continuing with the same wonderfully exquisite meals. It had been nearly 30 years since my husband and I first dined at Cafe Largo and after all that time we were so very happy the high quality dinning has not faded one bit. Thank you for delicious meal and wonderful conversation! Cafe Largo is a Gem! Highly recommend. read more

This place deserves a much higher rating, incredibly underrated. The service by the chef and his wife was incredible, the food was perfect, and the ambiance was peaceful. Everything is cooked fresh and tastes like it too, similar to restaurants we have eaten in Europe. 10/10 would recommend and come back here. It could use some TLC on the decor but who cares, everything else was great!! read more

Still Excellent After all These Years Four of us enjoyed an excellent meal at Café Largo. It was Wednesday and the place only had a couple of other tables full--one was a large birthday party. The restaurant is clean and inviting. Our server, the wife of the couple that owns the place, was very sweet and helpful. The food was all delicious. We shared an order of the appetizer scallops and the foie gras. For mains we had a fantastic veal chop and delicious lamb chops and a couple branzino. For dessert we enjoyed the chocolate mousse, the ice caffe glace and their homemade ice cream--all wonderful. It's nice to have an option for some excellent wines. The Margaux was very good, but the Pomerol was even better. Café Largo is an excellent choice for any kind of special event dinner. I hope it won't be too long until our next visit. read more

Although I've never been to France, I imagine that dining there would be very similar to dining at Cafe Largo. It is a very quaint and romantic restaurant with personable staff that show their genuineness throughout your entire dining experience. Not only was our server kind and full of great suggestions, but the chef even came out to personally say hello to us, which is always a nice touch. To start, we tried the scallops and the escargot, which came highly recommended from our server. Both were exceptionally delicious, prepared perfectly and served with great presentation. For dinner, we had the roasted duck and beef tenderloin with bearnaise sauce. It's hard to say which was better, so it's best to just get both and enjoy! I am happy to have experienced this amazing restaurant and look forward to doing so again. It was one of those dinners that you look back on and think how amazing everything was from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave. Keep up the great work! read more

Cafe Largo offers French cuisine to the Largo area. The homemade tomato soup started the meal with fine chunks of fresh tomatoes. Venison is in season and Chef Linus provided a perfectly seasoned dinner. The veal loin chop was huge and tasted just as delicious for lunch the next day. We had homemade ice cream and apple tart to complete our night out. The chef came to our table to check how we liked his food. When does that ever happen. Service is impeccable and honestly we were made to feel like the only ones in the restaurant. Call and make reservations or use open table because this place can get very busy!! read more

If looking for rude, slow service with bland flavorless food then you have come to the right place. This is coming from someone that frequents French cuisine. This was third French restaurant have been to in last month. My fiancé took me for my birthday. This is after I took her to Cafe Belgium for her birthday. Few weeks prior went to Parts of Paris Bistro. Both were amazing with knowledgable friendly prompt and attentive wait staff. The food was everything one would expect from French cuisine prepared slowly and with flavorful rich seasoning. The escargot at Parts of Paris and lamb chops were divine. At Cafe Bistro the staff had a birthday card waiting on the table upon our arrival and that was the start of an amazing evening. Both locations were beautiful, no tacky furniture or cracked ceiling tiles. read more

The food is amazing! I love the soups and, by far, they have the best filet that have eaten. Everything is fresh! I am not a big dessert person, but I am when at Cafe Largo. From an amazing chocolate mousse and from scratch baked goods. The owners and staff are very welcoming. The restaurant is intimate and nicely decorated. It is a very pleasant atmosphere. I highly recommend! read more

French cuisine is suppose to be made with time, precision, and quality ingredients. This was not that. The food was under seasoned, all of it. I see why all the blue hairs like this place, they can't taste it. The waitress was Horrible! She could have not been more rude. Skip this place not worth the time it takes to get a glass of water. Speaking on water, when you accidentally put your hand all over the rim of someone's glass in America you change the glass. It's gross. read more

Hands down one of the best meals that we ever had! This restaurant is more than just a hidden gem. From the time you step in, Yvonne greets you at the door and make you feel like you are returning home after being away for a long time. She is extremely hospitable and explains everything that you need to know about the menu, and gives you all the time in the world to decide. The ambience is astounding. No excessive loudness, and the subtle music sets the perfect mood. Deciding what to get would be the hardest part. Our dinner was nothing short of world-class deliciousness. From the first bite you realize that Chef Linus bundles his experience with a lot of love. It's like eating food that was made just for your taste buds and you may even wonder if it would be ok to order a second meal. Yvonne caters to your every need and Chef Linus comes out to greet you and make sure that everything was as delicious as he intended. If you are someone who is considering dining here, please do. You will have absolutely no regrets! The only caveat that's worth mentioning is that Google maps may send you to the street directly behind the restaurant but that may just add to your exciting experience once you find your treasure. read more

Very average experience for the price. We went on 3/27 and our waitress was awful. She knew nothing about the $80 wine she was trying to pawn off on us, very little about the dishes and appetizers she served us, and was so slow in serving our table. We had to get up multiple times to pour our own wine, which isn't a big deal in normal situations. It's just not what a restaurant who claims to be of this caliber should be like. Because the service and kitchen were so slow we ended up staying at the restaurant for almost 4 hours. You should never walk away from a restaurant this expensive feeling anything but satisfied. It just does not deliver for it's price point. read more

Wow! I don't live so far from this place and it took me 15 years to finally try some French food. I couldn't believe how great the food was. We started with the bread and butter which was excellent. He makes his own bread and uses wheat flour. Then we ordered the scallops, foie gras and onion soup for appetizer. All very excellent. Scallops were tender and juicy with great flavor. Foie gras used apples in it and it was excellent. First time having it and not my last time. But I don't think anything will compare to cafe largo. Onion soup was great and not too salty. It's a true onion soup and not a French onion soup. Our next course is salad. Tasted so fresh it seemed like he harvested all the veggies out back. Great dressing. Dinner: I ordered the lamb. I've had lamb before and said it wasn't for me but I thought I would try it again since our friends stated its a regular item they order every time they come to cafe largo. I definitely was glad to have tried it. It was excellent. Cooked just right - med rare. The sauce was excellent. I cleaned my plate. Prob could have licked it clean if we weren't in a 5 star restaurant. My husband ordered the fish of the day and it changes based on what's fresh. It was also really good. Our friends ordered the duck and tenderloin with foie gras and truffle (not on the menu). The duck was really good with a sweet taste to it. And I like how it's sliced up. Dessert: soufflé!!!! It's a true soufflé that is made with egg whites? Really light tasting. He had a choice of chocolate and grand mariner flavor. I really like the grand mariner flavor with the hint of orange. The crust was crispy. Excellent dinner! Can't wait to go again! A must have dinner if your in the area. read more

We have had two lovely dinners at Cafe Largo this winter. It's expensive (honestly what isn't now) but worth it for a dependable fine dining experience. I can recommend the beef filet, escargot, beet appetizer, lamb, and scallops. read more

Food ranged from very good to wonderful, so on balance it gets 5 stars. We were a party of 8, co the above comment refers to a lot of dishes. Longtime owner retired in October and these are new owners, which you may not have known. Husband in the kitchen, wife out front, and a few glitches with service - could tell from other reviews and last nite that they have problem getting help - but this is a non-problem - you pay more and get all the help you need. Also, the menu should list the wines by the glass; you have to have to have a discussion to find out what's available (they were all from France at $16 per generous serving). A suggestion to them if they are reading this: simply print a one-page insert for the menu. Describe the wines, etc. Can easily change it any time. If you look at all the good restaurants, (and not-so-good ones) EVERY SINGLE ONE lists wines by the glass and prices in their menus. People are used to that. read more

A hidden gem in our community! Delicious French cuisine prepared with quality ingredients, lovely owners and a great wine list.

Everything from soup to nuts. Hostess was inviting and engaging. Chef was approachable and did his ( English not his strong suit) best to explain the Christmas Eve menu. We had the fillet of soul and wife had the Veal shank. Both we're beyond what we hoped for. Be expected to pay more for this meal than normal but it will be memorable, we only go around once in life. read more

Wonderful! I had the steak tartar and veal chop. Hubby had French onion soup and steak au poivre. The entrees were accompanied by carrots, brussel sprouts, and zucchini. All was excellent. Put this restaurant on your go to list! read more

We have been to France, eaten French food and even had some French house guests cook for us. This is excellent French food, half the restaurants we went to in France weren't this good. The main entrees are at least $25, but I felt as though the quality, value and presentation were well worth it. The selection and description of dishes made it difficult for me to pick which to order. I ended up ordering the escargot appetizer(fantastic), seafood pasta entree(delicious and large portion). My boyfriend got the rack of lamb and he said they were probably the best he has had, I tried some of it and it was tender and juicy. I might order it next time. For desert, we had the caramelized fruit tart, how can that go wrong? It didn't. Of course it was very tasty and again excellent presentation. The service was excellent. It was a Sunday evening and there were only two other tables there the whole evening. We felt like it was our own personal French cuisine escape. They had only the one cook and one waitress (on heavier nights our friends tell us they have more staff). The decor and ambience is a mix of French and Florida Cuban. They had Cuban music playing softly in the back ground, some French decor and wicker chairs with cushions (palm tree print). It was part fine dining (formal place settings) and part FL casual. I quite enjoyed it, as I felt I could relax and enjoy my meal without being in an uptight restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's perfect for an intimate group, couples celebrating or just a nice evening of good food. read more

We recently returned to Cafe Largo where we have enjoyed meals in the past. This was our first visit since Linus and Yvonne have acquired the restaurant. The evening exceeded our expectations in every way. The minor tweaks and changes to the menu are perfect. The menu has something for everyone and our meal was perfectly prepared. The wine list has been updated with great choices at various price points. Yvonne is the perfect host and makes you feel at home immediately. Our service was perfect. It was so nice to have Linus leave his busy kitchen and come to each table to greet his guests. How refreshing to meet the person creating your food. It reminded us of our visit to France where we often met the owner and chef when dining in a small cafe or bistro. We will be more frequent diners now that we know what a gem we have in our neighborhood. read more

So we went here for our 33rd anniversary, right after it was sold. Not gonna lie, it was disappointing. Service was not good, it was slow and my husband even had to get up and get his own water. The nicest person was the food server in the back, when she came with our food, she was very pleasant and personable. The owner's wife didn't seem to have much of a personality even after we told her we've been coming here for years. She kept saying they were short staffed and to tell anyone looking for a job to let them know. Why not bend over backwards and make sure that I leave satisfied and happy, not making excuses. The food was good, not as good as when Dominic was there though. My husband proposed to me here way back in 1988 and we've gone every year since, not sure we'll be back. read more

I have been dining with this establishment on special occasions for 15 years or so since I moved here. The Chef Dominique has been owner and Chef for 33 years. He is a master of pastries as well as a bright and talented French connoisseur with many original French recipes and daily specials. The Chef orders fresh seafood and meats as well as cuts his own meats and filets the fish as it comes in. A signature dish of Grande Marnier Souffle is one of the favorite desserts and has to be ordered before your dinner to prepare.(hope Chef doesnt alam the oven door hehe..)It is extraordinaru..crispy on the outside and fluffy air on the inside with just the right touch of sweet foamy marnier topping .a true delight. If you have a special diet all you need to do is tell him when you make the reservation and he will order ingredients to give you the experience of France as well with such delight.Thr cafe is quaint.small.quiet with a low french music background. They have monthly wine tastings of small vineyards in France making available some of the most unique French wines ever at the lowest of prices. There is also a cooking class once a month, usually sold out quickly allowing the guest to experience French cuisine and follow him to the kitchen as well as eating their creations. This is a must try EXPERIENCE!!! I seem to be over enthusiastic with much reason. After working at a country club for 15years I now have the honor of working here.I am new, learning french wines and cuisine but what better place to be than with a true French origin..LOVE ..this place even more now that I see the inner world of this hidden gem..come see for yourself... read more

Will not be disappointed wonderful service great atmosphere food was delicious. Hidden restaurant not easy to find but worth the hunt.

Chef Dominique and Cafe Largo are true gems during these trying times. To give us something to look forward to, we ordered a carry out dinner from Cafe Largo. I had the veal chop and my husband had the filet Roquefort, both absolutely delicious! While it wasn't quite the same as dining in, all the little touches were there. Thank you Chef for brightening up our week with superb cuisine. We look forward to fine dining at the restaurant as well as your terrific cooking classes in the future. read more

It was a dark and stormy night in early December when I went searching for french food with the aid of Yelp and my trusty GPS. I attributed the emptiness of Cafe Largo to the weather and it being Tuesday night. Being the sole patron in the restaurant, I thought it would give me a chance to see what they were about. Well, I did see. The service was okay, but not exemplary; falling a little too far on the "oh, I didn't see you" side when I was the ONLY patron in the place. The food lacked not only inspiration, but was mostly overcooked. Again, not something one would expect when there is only one meal to cook. I was disappointed and cannot see myself returning as there are better choices in the area. read more

We went on a Tuesday night. It is located in a remote section of a strip center off Indian Rocks Rd. There was only one other 2-top occupied. So there were only four diners in the restaurant. Since we were in the midst of Tropical Storm Debby, they had stored all of their outdoor patio furniture inside the restaurant behind a see-through screen. Considering that this was supposed to be an upscale French restaurant, we were stunned. For dinner, we started with the pate sampler which (though delicious) was poorly presented and did not come with any sturdy variety of baguette to spread the deliciousness. Next and the biggest mistake of our evening was to order the blue crab soup with absinthe. It was very very thin with less than a 1/4 teaspoon of crab in it and it had a somewhat medicinal aftertaste. After two sips, I wanted to stop. The house greens came on a small plate with a nonexistent dressing and some very good beets but mine was served with a bad tomato. The highlight of our dinner was our entrees. We had a special of pistachio dusted sea scallops and the Chateaubriand with bearnaise. The scallops were large and perfectly cooked and the beef was wonderfully med. rare with bearnaise that was both delicious and unbroken. The starch and veggies were in very small portions. For dessert, we had the fruit tart and the chocolate mousse. Both were satisfactory but unimaginative. After years of restaurant dining, I have come to rely on the value of having impeccably clean bathrooms in a fine eating establishment, however these were atrocious. I realize that our waiter and the cook were the only employees present, but still. For this kind of money, we should of had a top notch experience with a view other than patio furniture stacked in one side of the dining room and an attentive waiter who would ask about the quality of our meal. We have learned our lesson and will not return. Please be cautious over these other reviews with only one review recorded...they are the owner's family! Try the Black Pearl for a better experience! read more

Upscale dining options are very few in this area, so we were happy to discover this charming French restaurant in the Galleria Plaza. Owner/chef Dominique Christini's primary inspiration is the cuisine of Provence. The menu changes every two weeks. On the night we visited, we started with escargots and goat cheese in a pastry shell and an assortment of pates served with cornichons. My husband had a traditional onion soup followed by venison chops on a bed of red cabbage confit, and I had blue crab soup followed by sauteed medallions of veal lion in a mushroom sauce. For dessert we shared a Grand Mariner souffle. Everything was prepared perfectly and served elegantly. The wine steward suggested a bottle of Château Coudert St. Émilion Grand Cru would be an excellent complement to our entrees. At $38, it was one of the less expensive options. Dinner for two with tax and tip was $190, which is a lot higher than most people in this area (many of them retired seniors on fixed incomes) expect to pay for dinner. But Cafe Largo has been here for 18 years, so obviously people who appreciate fine dining are willing to eat here and pay for the quality they receive. You can purchase a gift certificate valued at $100 for only $80. If you buy four you get a fifth one free, so you get $500 worth of meals for only $320. Informal cooking classes are offered one Monday evening a month. After the meal is prepared, students and trhe chef enjoy it with a glass of wine. The cost is $37.50 per person. read more

While in Florida for a wedding my wife and I decided to check out a restaurant away from the hotel area. Fortunately we found Cafe Largo. Any restaurant that has had the same chef for 33 years has the right system. Although the restaurant is part of a small strip mall the inside of the restaurant is perfect. They have an extensive wine menu. My wife ordered a chateau briand that was perfect with the perfect hollandaise sauce. The duck I ordered tasted great. The dinner was preceded by a dinner salad with option of a variety of cheeses. For dessert we ordered a seasonal fruit tart. Everything was exceptional. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive. The chef came and spoke with every diner. read more
