Outstanding food and service in a humble cafe with many pics of Paris . Worth a visit for you French pastry fix

A slice of Paris in Clearwater! Such a cute spot in a small strip center. It's quaint like a diner, with pastries to die for. I had an egg, bacon, and cheese croissant that came with fruit and a side salad. It was a fried egg and the cheese was Swiss so a bit of a twist on a traditional breakfast sandwich, which I enjoyed. I had to add a chocolate croissant for breakfast dessert. So good! And the coffee was excellent.

Excellent food made to order. They really make you feel welcome. Pictures on the walls of Paris get you in the mood to travel.

"A Bistro in a Strip Mall? Welcome to Clearwater's Passport to Paris" You ever stumble into a place by accident and suddenly feel like you just walked through a wormhole into another country? That's Chez David. Tucked unassumingly in a Florida strip mall (because of course it is) , Chez David is ostensibly a French bakery. But don't let the French Bakery signage fool you -- this isn't just a patisserie. This is a full-blown bistro with a menu that'll make you weep softly into your brie. I ordered a smoked salmon and brie omelette -- yes, brie -- fluffy as a Montmartre cloud and bursting with flavor. I considered licking the plate, but decorum (barely) won out. And for dessert? I had something called Desire Cake, whose key ingredient is a thing of legend known as hazelnut ganache mousse. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but eating it felt like a cake went to Normandy, fell in love with a jar of Nutella, took a sabbatical in the Alps, and came back fluent in decadence. In other words -- amazing. But here's the real secret ingredient: David himself. The man behind the name is ever-present, circulating like the maître d' of your dreams -- introducing himself to tables, checking in with staff, orchestrating the experience like he's hosting you in his own living room. It's the kind of genuine care you just don't see anymore, especially not at places with prices this reasonable and portion sizes this generous. This isn't fast-casual, this is French-casual, where you're treated like family, not just a guest. And for one magical meal, you'll forget you're in Florida entirely. Final word: Go. Eat the omelette. Say bonjour to David. And whatever you do, don't skip the Desire Cake -- it's the kind of pastry that rewrites your dessert standards forever.

Update: Jan 2025 Under new ownership and new name. Everything is as good. All made in house and still one of my favorite when I am in the area.

French Cream Donut. So good!

Breakfast overcooked eggs, undercooked bacon. Disappointed. Based on other reviews I was so excited to go.

Wow!!! I'm so excited to find this wonderful French bakery in Indian Rocks!…read more We went in for chocolate croissants, and discovered that and so much more. In addition to pastries, they have cookies, macaroons, quiches, crepes, breakfast sandwiches, beverages, and more. You can dine there or take away. Parking can be tough, but there are some free spots in front and alongside. If you are studying nearby and can walk there, that's what I would suggest. They have an efficient service process where you order the counter. The place feels both beachy and French. Such a wonderful find!

Well third time wasn't the charm. We tried 2 times driving from Tampa. First time it was closed and…read moresecond they were closing early and stop serving. It wasn't bad but also disappointingly not great food wise. Service was pleasant and they brought items out quickly since it wasn't real busy on a Saturday lunchtime. Parking up front was easy. Staff was nice and friendly. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Quiche with bacon mushrooms was just ok. Lacked seasoning, richness and depth of flavor. Not bad but not great. The pressed pâté panini with cornichons had a crunch and iceberg lettuce. The croissants missed the laminated butter pastry taste and flakiness. The raspberry beignet wasn't overly sweet but tasted more bready than donut beignet. After that, we still ordered a lemon sugar crepe that missed the mark. It leaned more savory undertones without the lightness, tart and sweetness. More meh. I tried adding more sugar. Was it the lemon in the jar instead of fresh squeezed? The batter? The whipped cream didn't help. Oh well, we tried. All in all folks seem to like it, but I wouldn't really say it's a Parisian cafe or a patisserie that I'd make a long drive. If you haven't had a great French bakery or staying in Pinellas or just want some for the beach, it's great. We were disappointed by expecting more than it was. Unfortunately.
