It seems I always struggle to find a decent place for lunch in the city that is quick, reasonably priced and of good quality. It's either a bad corner sandwich bar, a food court in a shopping centre or you steel someone's lunch from the fridge in the employees lounge at the office. So this week I made it my mission to find an establishment that could tick the three boxes, quick-price-quality.
I started my quest in the most unlikely spot in Melbourne, Flinders Lane. Now don't get me wrong I love Flinders Lane, and it houses some of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne, but they, to my mind, don't meet the brief. So I was surprised when I stumbled across Cafe Kinetic. This little gem ticked all the boxes and more. As with majority of venues in flinders lane, the cafe is narrow and long. It's divided into three major sections, pre made rolls and sandwiches, design your own sandwich and a hot and cold buffet serving soups, hot dishes and salads. I opted for a simple made to order sandwich of freshly cooked chicken and salad on white bread. I know that this is such a simple dish but believe me, so many places can't even make a humble sandwich, but I'm pleased to say Cafe Kinetic have bailed it. Fresh bread, together with fresh ingredients, made for a sensational sandwich.
So if your looking for a great uncomplicated lunch in the CBD, then head to Cafe Kinetic on Flinders Lane. read more
