Went for our year anniversary and Cafe Josephine did NOT disappoint. My husband and I have separately traveled all over the world and yet the best steak we have ever had was here. We both got the filet mignon and it was so velvety smooth that you could cut it with a fork! Our server, Macy, was FABULOUS! She was knowledgeable about the specials and knew what we were going to ask before we asked it. Amazing experience all the way around. 10/10 would do again. read more

Visited this little gem of a Louisiana eatery nestled in a delightfully rural area. Lots of great seafood on the menu and the complimentary biscuits are fire. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting this part of Louisiana & be immersed in local culture and friendly people. read more

Good food, good atmosphere. A little loud on a Fri or Sat night. The wait staff is great. Good place for a date night.

Food was excellent. Oysters perfectly grilled. Very reasonable price for oysters on tues-thurs nights. Service was excellent also. Very nice setting and a huge grill you can sit around and watch them cook if you want. read more

First i would like to say that, Cafe Josephine's has always been my favorite go to spot and is definitely one of the few places I patronize. That all changed on Wednesday Night. We arrived when the doors opened at 5pm. First thing we were greeted and taken to a room away from bright lights, music and vibrant atmosphere of restaurant. We felt isolated and ostracized but didn't make a fuss of it. Secondly Our server brought out biscuits that were descent but not what we've had in the past but nothing to complain about. Oysters were a 5 star slightly salty but the best dish of the night. Well we put in our order My husband and I ordered the 14 oz ribeye. My husband got his with the blue cheese topping. Salads were mediocre at best and the basil vinaigrette was very distasteful. When our steaks arrived they were nothing like we have ever had. The kicker was when my husband received his steak with blue cheese topping it had pecans sprinkled on it. The pecans were not even roasted. We have never in life seen anything like this. I wish that it gets better because it's very concerning to say the least. I have high hopes for this place but right now i will not be returning. It leads me to believe they have a new cook or chef and they have not adjusted. Good luck guys. I hope this was just a bad night. read more

Horrible!!!!! Busy and crowded with loud drunk cackling hens next to us. Waited for 45+ minutes for our food. Had better hamburgers at fast food restaurants. Cold fries. Shrimp po boy was good. The chicken Alfredo was mediocre at best. It's obvious they're the only restaurant in town. read more

It's the Ritz Carlton of Sunset. That's all I wanted to say but I'm told my review needs to be at least 85 more characters to be able to post so the ribs were really good and drizzled with some kinda fancy a' la' orange' sauce. It's also Dana Barras' favorite restaurant and she wasn't even mad when they accidentally dropped the plate of chargrilled oysters on her favorite sister-n-law. Her brother Digger was a lil bit mad and if he was playing hockey he probably would've beaten up someone since he'd never lost a fight in his whole life read more

Terribly disappointed. So looking forward to the crab cakes, but they were seasoned way too spicy to enjoy the delicate crab meat. It was loaded with crab meat but they were tiny and way too expensive-$44.00 with two sides, if you can call grilled tomato a side. The most horrendous entree we had was the Prime Rib Cap steak. Market price ...$84.99!!!! Totally ridiculous. My husband loves spicy food, but this steak was so highly seasoned he couldn't eat it. We should have asked the price first but we had looked on line beforehand and it was $30 less! Then, an extra order of asparagus came out as we were ready to leave! On top of all this disappointment, we waited over 45 minutes for our meals because our waiter said " so sorry but someone picked up your steak by mistake." Really?! We will never return. read more

Interesting place! Food is great, service is pretty good - they are a bit understaffed for the dinner rush. The ambiance is unique, and a true slice of Louisiana. The owner and sons cook behind a glass partition. It is interesting and enjoyable. We'll definitely be back! read more

Went for my husband's birthday. The charbroiled oysters were the best we have ever had, very large size as well. He had lamb, I had steak- both fantastic flavor. Twice baked potato was my favorite, sooo good!! Had bread pudding for dessert, which he is always a fan of and he said it was one of the best he's had. Would definitely go back!! read more

We have not had a sub-par meal here. Oyster trio is fantastic, even the chicken fried steak is good (needs some seasoning but good comfort food), steaks or seafood are bound to be good. The eggplant dish with crab and fried shrimp over angel hair is great! Our last appetizer of crab egg rolls is totally outside of our norm, but it was great. It's safe to try new things here. Everything will be good. read more

1st time to this place. In one word....fabulous!! Macy our waitress was great. This is as a Wednesday night not crowded but good crowd. If you are an oyster fan this place is great. We had the raw and char broiled oysters. Absolutely fantastic. Better than Dragos. Raw were fresh clean and salty! A little lemon juice and Tabasco sauce, heaven! read more

Everything was so good. The biscuits were the best I've ever had. I had the sampler oysters and it was amazing, but for my taste preference, I'd stick with the original. I also got the seafood fondue, very creamy. I'd eat here every night if I could. Make sure you have a reservation! read more

We cannot WAIT to return to Cafe Josephine!!! (We'll be able to locate it a little easier now that we've been, lol!) We ate there in May, the weekend of Festival International in Lafayette. I have rarely stopped thinking about our dinner at Josephine since! They were quite busy when we arrived (on a Saturday evening with no reservation!) but ALEXA at the bar made us PERFECT Old Fashioneds (and we are PICKY about our Olds) to sip while we waited. We watched her behind the bar for a few minutes, expertly filling wait staff orders as well as serving patrons at the bar. She was AMAZING! And a cheerful attitude all the while! We didn't wait long enough to finish our drinks and were escorted to our table with Olds in hand. MALLORY was our waitress and she was just as cheerful, helpful and talented as Alexa at the bar. I wish I had photos of our chargrilled dozen (really of all of our food) - OMG perfection!!! - Chef Troy (whom we called Mr. Big) came to chat with us so we could compliment the heck out of him and try to coerce his recipe for the special sauce he puts on the oysters, but he thought that was quite humorous, lol. After the oysters we shared the grilled seafood platter. Every single bite was a dream! (we literally moaned) I wish I could give this food and cafe wayyyyy more than five stars. Ten out of ten, highly recommend, will eat there again, even if we have to make a special trip all the way from New Orleans. THANK YOU CAFE JOSEPHONE! read more

What a really nice restaurant in a really cute community. Overall it was a great experience, with a few minor hiccups. The service was great. I would go back for the complimentary biscuits. I found out after the fact you can order them to go, apparently. They are the perfect flavor of sweet and spicy and savory. We also tried the sweet potato balls (apologies in advance but when I don't have pictures it usually means I don't have the ability to restrain myself from immediately digging in). The sweet potato balls were one of the night's specials. They were tasty--in my humble opinion missing a little some to take it from good to amazing. My husband tried the oysters and raved about them. The Brussels sprouts were also quite tasty, and the blue cheese wedge was solid. The eggplant dish was good, though I prefer my eggplant more thinly sliced. We had it with the angel hair pasta and that was really delicious. The jumbo shrimp were perfectly fried. We also tasted the $99 aged steak that someone in our party got and--let's just say I can understand that why someone would pay $99 for that steak--it was amazing. Having had all of this, we did not have room for dessert. The things that keep it shy of 5 stars: the gumbo was just ok. Roux a little too thick for our liking, but probably good if that's how you like it. The restaurant itself was a little stuffy. That being said, it's been ungodly hot, so I imagine the AC may have had a hard time keeping up. Hopefully someone has checked out the last women's' restroom by now--it felt like a sauna. I don't think the heat was on, but there was zero cool air in there. To close, if we are lucky enough to find ourselves back in the area, we would absolutely go back. read more

Great food and atmosphere. Friendly service and reasonable prices. A great place to stop if you're headed north or south on I-49.

Went last Saturday night for our first visit. Seaux, we actually left Lafayette to eat dinner in Sunset...you got to be kidding! Well my dining friends, it was an amazing experience. We decided to Uber to Sunset as all I heard was the bartender was not a bartender, but a true mixologist. We arrived early enough to spend time at the bar with Rick...and can he make a cocktail. How about a smoked Old Fashion??? Wow!!!! On to our table, and the food just as recommended, great steaks, pork chop, shrimp and grits, and to top it off...great service! After dinner, back to the bar for one of Rick's famous Chocolate Martinis. Like my friend Perry said, last time he was in Sunset, they couldn't spell Martini, now they make a great one. Enough said, great evening, worth the drive, very reasonable prices, and great service. And did I mention the cocktails!!! read more

Excellent food! Trio oysters were great. Husband had seafood plate. Topped off with bread pudding.

Cafe Josephine is a favorite for some of my coworkers when traveling to this part of Louisiana. I gave it a try last July and found it ok but overpriced. But, I thought I'd try again. I decided this time to simply go with the seafood gumbo ($17.99) thinking that was a pretty safe bet. I was wrong. Brown water with some boiled shrimp floating in it. I've had gumbo all over the state and by far, this was the weakest. I also asked for couple extra biscuits (they were pretty good) or a piece of garlic toast and was offered a toasted bit of French bread ($1.00). It was a dried out and burnt (I'm sorry, "char-broiled") piece of bread. I'll pass next time I'm in the area. read more

Stopped in for quick dinner on way to Monroe. Food was outstanding. Started w dozen oysters... Great size and mouth watering. For dinner I had the ahi tuna-it was encrusted with sesame seeds and served the perfect temp. I asked for no oil in the preparation of my meal and the server immediately offered to have the designated vegetable switched out for asparagus which could be roasted with no oil. Love it!! Much appreciated. Our server, Macy, was amazing!! She was so super professional and was knowledgeable about the menu and quick with recommendations. We were more than impressed with her customer service abilities and friendly manner. Hope to come back to this gem of a restaurant. read more

I was told by many that this restaurant was a must! Fortunately, it was a very good experience indeed. My one complaints were the Mac and cheese side order and the crab egg rolls. The egg rolls were a decent flavor. They just weren't hot and were a bit soggy, almost as if they cook a lot of them and plate when necessary. The Mac was lack luster to say the least. It could definitely use work. The goat cheese salad was very tasty. I got the special, which was scallops over a Tasso and crawfish mashed potato side. Everything about this dish was so good! I'd get it every time if possible. The service was impeccable too. I believe my servers name was Chase and he was delightful, fun, and fresh. Overall it was a good experience that could use a tiny bit of finesse. I'll go back. read more

Absolutely the best grilled oysters I've ever had! I've already recommended this restaurant to my family and friends.

We came from Los Angeles, Ca to visit friends. We wanted to go have steak for dinner and was very disappointed. Not only is the food too salty it is VERY expensive. They kept bringing us bread , we thought it was free. My cocktail tasted lie club soda and water, did not taste the vodka . The waitress was a little rude with comments. Next time we're in town we won't go there. read more

Bland, bland, bland....! Worst gumbo and crab bisque in the world. Are we in Cajun Land or not??

We made dinner reservations for date night for the first time here and it was amazing, definitely recommend and will come back again! The restaurant is really clean and has a nice atmosphere. Service was outstanding and very polite. We did not wait long to be seated and served. We started with the scones and they were sooo good we ended up ordering some to go for later. We ordered the crab stuffed eggrolls and the oyster trio for appetizers and both were really good. I can't get over how amazing the eggrolls were and also really enjoyed the crab stuffed oysters. I had tonight's special- the grouper with crab cream on angel hair pasta with grilled asparagus. I am sooo happy I went with it because it has easily become one of my favorite pastas I've had. My husband had the grilled seafood platter and thoroughly enjoyed it. The seafood rice is something I could definitely eat on the daily! 10/10 recommend, will be back to try other things on the menu! read more
