It is 1:23pm already.... needed to add what date...

I stop by this whole foods and get coffee at Grumpy place when drive to NJ for meetings. Not much around that location. Today was one of those days, when I was driving through NJ and stopped by Whole Foods to get some ingredients my wife asked me for. Apparently, again and again Grumpy coffee shop keeps disappointing. Some days they are to busy chatting to people and forget about your orders, others they are extremely slow and today they just forgot to come back from lunch... I mean... it passed 1:30pm. And according to sign the batista should be back by 12:30pm. Whole foods should stop having business with them. What an embarrassment and disappointment trying to give these coffee shop business. Never again.

They can't even fill my capp to the top of the cup.

What I loved most about this location was that it reminded me of the old Starbucks. The Starbucks from a decade ago, or even the ones I remember from high school, with big comfy chairs where you actually wanted to sit for a while, meet up with friends, work, or just hang out. I don't feel like you find that very often anymore. I had already done a ton of walking that morning and had gotten separated from my group, so I ended up here by myself for a while. Eventually I realized they would love it too and had them meet me there. It was just such a warm, relaxing place to sit and recharge. My friends had the espresso martinis and said they were phenomenal. Since it was fall, I went with the very basic choice of a pumpkin spice latte, and I have to say, it was phenomenal too. I actually thought it was better than the pumpkin spice latte at a regular Starbucks. There are also a lot of different pastries and food options that you don't normally see at Starbucks. We had eaten earlier, so we didn't try any, but it was fun just seeing everything they offered. The staff was wonderful and attentive without hovering. I actually think they're really good at reading why you're there. If you want to learn about the Reserve and ask questions, they seem more than happy to walk you through everything. If you're there to sample things, they'll help you do that. And if you're just there to sit down and chill for a while, they let you do exactly that. I also noticed quite a few people working from here, which again made me nostalgic for the old Starbucks experience. My friends said the same thing when they arrived. Obviously every Starbucks can't be a Reserve, but if regular Starbucks locations brought back the big comfy chairs and spaces where people actually wanted to stay for a while, we would absolutely be here for it. A couple of practical notes: there are free bathrooms downstairs, although there was a line when I went. Also, depending on what you order, some drinks come in really nice, sturdy plastic cups. I ended up getting one with an ice water, and while I wasn't remotely looking for a Starbucks souvenir, it accidentally became one. I've been using it ever since. Overall, this was such a warm, relaxing, vibey place. Whether you want to learn about coffee, try something different, meet up with friends, get some work done, or just sit in a comfy chair after walking around New York all morning, they seem to meet you wherever you're at. And Starbucks, please bring back the big comfy chairs.

This is my first time at a Starbucks roastery location (there are only 5 in the world!). I had been to the Reserve at the Empire State Building, which I love, but hadn't made it down here yet. Both locations have unique food and drink options not found at typical Starbucks locations (did I mention cocktails!) Nice location in Meatpacking District of Manhattan. Upon entering I was greeted by a staff who explained the layout for me (the bar is in the top level, for example). And right next to him I was offered a sample of the whiskey barrel aged cold brew (it does not contain any alcohol). I love the espresso martini variations of the other location but today I am just looking for caffeine without alcohol :) There are a lot of unique Starbucks and NYC themed merch for purchase, and plenty of seating, plus restrooms. I decided to have the whiskey barrel aged cold brew instead of my usual regular cold brew, and I wanted the cute Roastery themed to-go cup so I asked for that instead of the unique carafe and whiskey style glass that it is usually served in. I would love to try one of the tours sometime!

Not only…read moreare the desserts incredible, but the employees were so friendly and pleasant to deal with as well. The star of the show is, of course, the Merveilleux. It's made with light, airy meringue and whipped cream, then covered in chocolate shavings. It somehow manages to be rich and delicate at the same time. I can see why it's their signature dessert. They offer different flavors and sizes too, from mini versions to larger cakes that are perfect for sharing. One of the coolest parts of visiting is that the kitchen is completely open. You can watch the pastry chefs assembling these beautiful creations right in front of you. It's mesmerizing and makes the whole experience feel special. The bakery has roots in Northern France and Belgium, where the Merveilleux originated, but pastry chef Frédéric Vaucamps reinvented the classic recipe to make it lighter and more modern. Whatever he did worked because these pastries are unforgettable. A quick tip: cash only, so come prepared. Honestly, if you're anywhere nearby, I think you need to run there. Between the amazing desserts, the friendly staff, and the chance to watch everything being made fresh, it's one of the most enjoyable bakery experiences I've had in a long time. I know you won't be sorry!

Aux Merveilleux de Fred is a tiny, beautifully fragrant shop on 8th Ave. I ordered the cold brew black and it was one of the smoothest, most satisfying first cups of the day I've had in a long time. Finding genuinely good black cold brew in this city is harder than it should be, and this one hit the spot so perfectly I made a second solo trip before sundown. The chocolate and almond croissant was delicate, flaky, and exactly what a croissant should be. The shop itself is small, no indoor seating, but two benches out front! The staff was warm and the whole place smells incredible the moment you walk in. I've already earmarked the Cramique for my next visit, because if it's anywhere near as good as everything else, I'm in trouble. Do yourself a favor and stop in!
