When one must follow a gluten-free diet, it is so nice to find places where you can eat what everyone else gets to enjoy. This was anything but enjoyable. I was planning a little Halloween getaway to Kingston and searching for a new and exciting breakfast place to stop on my way there. I found Heaffles and read through their website--I'm always very careful and vet my restaurants before the trip and plan food meticulously, you have to when you cannot eat gluten. The site stated that if you want a gluten free waffle, you must call 24 hours ahead of time. I immediately thought that was ridiculous (that eliminates any possibility of a GF person walk-in from eating there) but messaged them on Instagram. I asked if I could message then and schedule or did a I have to call. They told me I must call the day before. Pain in the bum, but I set a reminder in my phone and did so. The next day, I show up. Such a cute place and the breakfast that kicks off a trip always makes me so happy. We don't eat out much at all, living so rurally. It had also been ages since I'd enjoyed a GF waffle, so excitement was high. This place has a ton of potential. The seating is cute, the bathrooms clean and so beautifully decorated. There is even a little cubby with cushions that would make it feel as though one was having breakfast in bed. I really did fall in love with the space. There didn't appear to me to be a traditional server comes to your table. You walk in and place your order at the counter. I ordered a Flat White to drink along with a water and a gluten-free coconut rush. The young lady at the counter was very quick to tell me that they had a customer coming in to get a GF waffle and that they only had enough batter for one waffle and that I would need to try again and call 24 hours beforehand. Right before I told her I was that customer, my brain was like, what? You have enough batter for ONE waffle??? I make GF stuff all the time. It is NOT that expensive. And what if you mess up that ONE waffle (and they did because she didn't listen to me)? I said, "Oh, I called yesterday." And I had driven a very long way. I would hate for anyone else to do that and end up disappointed. After that, I was allowed to order my waffle. Coconut is my favourite sweet flavour, but it came with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I told her THREE times I didn't want the strawberries or the syrup. Strawberry jam, jelly syrup...I hate them all, also cannot stand cooked fruit. She told me she could put the strawberries on the side and that they were uncooked. I said that was okay, but reiterated AGAIN that I do not want or like the strawberry syrup. I thought I might get my drinks at the counter, but she said they would bring everything to my table. I sat within view of the counter by the window. I assumed, as at most places, the drinks would come out first. I had started on the Terra Health heartburn kit to kick my PPI script and needed to take the supplements before eating. Some ladies came in after me and they got their drink order while I sat and waited. The waffle came out, and I was too panicked by not taking my supplements to pay that much attention and told them I needed some water and that I didn't have my coffee yet. They came back in a few minutes and in the meantime, I saw that the waffle I'd paid nearly $30 for, along with a very tiny flat white coffee, was drenched...every inch in yucky strawberry syrup. I'm a silver lining kind of girl, so I told myself to try it, maybe my tastes have changed. Nope. It was this strong, chemically strawberry flavour that made me gag. Talk about disappointed. At this point it was late in the morning and I was starving. I opened up the waffle (the size, even if they'd managed to listen to my order was not worth what I paid) and ate some of the filling out. The only waffle that had no nasty syrup was at the fold and I ate the four bites I could. The coffee was literally 3 swallows. I left hungry and angry. And in all that time, no one ever came back to ask me how the order was...and I knew I couldn't send it back because that was their ONE GF waffle batter of the day. I had to stop at Wendy's and spend another $10 for a bunless burger after. I would never go back. The ask and not having the batter available is beyond RIDICULOUS, despite the fact they don't listen, which makes a GF person VERY nervous. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. Poor service, poor value and food I couldn't stomach. Not for me.

Parking can be a bit busy but usually okay. The service both times has been patient and kind to explain the various options. We decided to go with a milk cake with half lotus and half Dubai chocolate. The cake is soaking in milk which gives it a "wet cake" texture. I imagine it may not be everyone's favorite texture but has decent flavor. The crunchy topping contrasts against the soft, moist cake. The lotus has that nice cookie flavor and crunch while the Dubai chocolate with pistachio offers that chocolate and nutty flavor. I prefer the latter but both are good. We also got a matcha strawberry latte to go. Both really nice to look at and to drink. The matcha has good flavor without being overly bitter while the strawberry provides that fruity sweetness to the drink. Overall, it's a pricier experience but I enjoyed it and will be back.

I returned for its Dubai chocolate bars. Kanafani Sweets is located in a plaza on the northeast corner of Warden Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East. It's in the same plaza as the Potato Bar. I had no problem finding parking. I pulled into a parking spot in front of the store and walked in. The order pickup area was in front of me. I read the signs and the order area was a few steps deeper into the store. I had the nicest woman who cheerfully said hi. She was helpful with answering my question and offering suggestions. She showed me the qashtuta, which was milk cake. She let me know that I could either get a solid flavour, such as Biscoff, or do three different flavours, such as Biscoff, hazelnut, and Dubai chocolate. Wow! My Yelp experience consisted of having knafeh, which I absolutely love. She said that it could be made soft or crispy. I love crispy. She also let me know that I could get either pistachio or chocolate sauce on the side. I went with the former. For the drink, she shared what was popular. The iced tiramisu latte was one of them. I love tiramisu. I was down checking out an iced drink version. I got a buzzer for my order. The knafeh takes roughly ten minutes to make. I sat in a comfy chair near the order area. It was nice to relax after driving for over an hour to get here. I used the washroom. There's an individual stall for women. It was clean, cheerful, and pleasant. I used it again just before I left to run a few errands before heading home. I watched the buzzer light up. I headed to the pickup area. The nice woman had my order ready. She let me know that I got a brownie bite on the house. It was so generous! I thanked her and headed to my table to chow down. The iced tiramisu latte was exceptional. I got a lady finger that I could dip into my drink. The espresso was a good strength with the cocoa. It had milk. You can substitute the espresso for decaf, and the milk for a dairy-free or lactose-free substitute. I didn't bother. It was nicely iced and a good size to wash down everything that I ate. I loved the complimentary brownie bite. The brownie core was delicious. The crispy exterior provided a nice contrast. It was enjoyable to devour! I loved the knafeh. It already had syrup on it. I got syrup on the side, as well as pistachio sauce. I poured the pistachio sauce over the knafeh. So good! The knafeh had cheese inside. It was stretchy and hot. Over time, the cheese lost its stretchy factor as it cooled. It was yummy with the right balance of crispiness and chopped pistachios with the pistachio sauce. The syrup made the knafeh slightly sweet. The sweetness was perfect for my liking. The knafeh was excellent. I have been trying to find a decent place that makes Dubai chocolate bars. Before visiting this store, most places made their bars on their own, but they were too soft. It was as if I looked at the bar and it melted on its own out of fear. I bought a bar of Dubai chocolate Lotus to enjoy. I paid with a credit card and included a tip because staff are so helpful and friendly. This bar was excellent. The crispy filling had Lotus cookie spread in it. The milk chocolate held everything together. I was impressed. I will be back to get the regular bar next. Overall, it was a nice experience and one can chill there for an hour.

The sundried tomato savoury makes a great treat and you can ask them to warm it for you. I tried their strawberry iced matcha and the military iced latte and trust me when I say the military latte was the best drink I have had in a very long time. The coffee was smooth and rich yet it wasn't too sugary which was perfect! And the matcha? 10/10. Again, not overly sweet and you can taste the matcha in it. You can sit and work here as well which is an added plus!

However, I do wish there was more of a caramelized top for the creme brulee. In hindsight I do wish I got a more interesting flavor like Ube or Pistachio since they have a good selection of flavors, but the creme brulee was still pretty tasty! I'd say order another flavor instead though. The souffle pancakes also take 20min to prepare which took longer than their other dishes, but as long as you're sharing plates and can eat something else until it comes then it's all good! Staff was really nice and attentive. Definitely coming back and trying more of their menu!

Located on the 2nd floor at Yonge and Finch, Cafe n One is a bright, cute cafe serving Japanese inspired brunch items, drinks, pastas and desserts. . . Classic Breakfast 4/5 Chicken Karaage 3/5 Croffles 5/5 Green Tea Soufflé Pancake 4.3/5 Latte 4.8/5 . . We arrived around 10 minutes after open and there were already a handful of people seated. The drinks and food came out pretty quickly except the soufflé pancakes which takes 25minutes to prepare. My favourite was the croffle. For $10, you get 2 big pieces of croffle which tastes great with either whipped cream or syrup. The chicken karaage was kind of dry on its own, but dipping it in the syrup and eating it with the croffle made it better. If you want a hearty breakfast, the classic breakfast is a solid choice. The soufflé pancake was fluffy and delicious, well worth the wait. I was amazed by the detailed latte art as well. Highly recommend this cafe!
