We just arrived in town and checked in with our Airbnb lady and then headed for the nearest fish n chippie place, which happened to be this place. It looked to be full, but glad we went in as they had an entire dining room available upstairs too which had an empty table for our group of 3. Between the three of us,we got haddock with chips and mushy peas for £5.95 and then the cod bites with new potatoes (basically boiled potatoes). My brother and I also split a carafe of white wine for £3.95. So the food that arrived finally was scrumptious and as a size indication, honestly massive doesn't begin to describe it, more like gigantic or galactic. The fish was pipping hot and crispy. The fries were "proper" hand cut chips that tasted awesome. Mushy peas tasted fresh and another stand out was the baked beans, and that bowl was licked clean. Frankly the cod bites were so big, all three of us could have shared that one plate easily enough. Service was really friendly and helpful and yay! We got tap water here for no charge! They also got us lemons and bread slices. I had wanted dessert but simply no space in my tummy. Our total came to around £30, which was great for the size of the meal. If am in this area long enough, would absolutely go back and highly recommend! Note: #211 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

One of my few gripes about South Belfast is how expensive their chip shops are compared to those of my native North. This place in particular, Cafe Fish, is shockingly expensive considering its just a chip shop so I was expecting something spectacular. What I got was quite average, I could have just walked down the road to the 'lesser' part of the Lisburn Road and gotten something for cheaper that would have tasted the same, if not nicer. Not a happy bunny!

As with most of the restaurants on the upper Lisburn road this place is slightly pricier than your average chippy. However, the food is really nice. I wouldn't say its nicer than many of the cheaper alternatives further down the street, but its really fresh and made to order too which I quite like. I think the prices have more to do with location than anything else. We've been here a few times for a bag of chips to enjoy over in the park on a nice day (not that there are many or those) and the chips are good and service pretty OK depending on the time of day you're here. Lunchtime will not be quick here as its very popular. I haven't tried the fish yet but their burgers are pretty good too!

I think that's usually what happens with most of the student residents of the Lisburn Road actually.

Great place that should deserve a lot more attention…read more A little difficult to find, and definitely need a second pair of eyes... The outside of this place was an industrial-looking building that nobody would have thought it's a fish n chips place. Parking was TIGHT! So be warned!! The moment you walked in, it gave out an old harbor diner feel (not sure if that's how you describe it)... Tile flooring, straight 90-degree wooden booths. They have both takeout and dine-in service, so we decided to enjoy the moment and sat in for our fishy. Most of the items have both regular size or what they called a "supper" size, which just means more on the chips... or fries for us North Americans. We ordered the classic Fresh Battered Fish and a Pastie (huh?) As you wait for the goodies, you could hear the sound of fish or chips being fried, that's really music to my ears! The fish was LONG! Fried to perfection with minimal batter, just the way it's supposed to be to showcase the main character- FISH! Despite ordering the regular fish n chips, the portion of the fries was perfect for us... those fries were THICK CUT and the size of my thumb!! And then, our mystery Pastie arrived. My first thought was "a flatten ball of..." FISH PASTE and potato (pure guesses on the potato part, not 100% sure). It was a very interesting fried loveliness for us... it tasted a little like those Asian fish sausages with onions. Overall, CHEAP and WORTH THE DRIVE! Both of these combined were only GBP 8 something (about CAD$13)! If you ordered the exact same thing back home, the fish n chips along already cost more than $13.

Consistently good sized portions, thankfully never too greasy like some other establishments. A…read moreneighborhood restaurant with locals and visitors, they treat everyone as family. Prices have been kept fair as of the last time I visited in 2025.

They offer all the usuals such as fish, sausages, burgers, chips and chicken burgers and I went for the fish supper. It came out huge and looked just as good as it tasted! I sat in and there was a pretty steady stream of people coming in for take out which can only mean good things! There is also outdoor seating for you to enjoy a rare sunny day in Belfast and partake in a bit of people watching! Really love this place and it's up there with Gucci on the Lisburn road for me. Always keen to try a new chippie (they've apparently been open 6 weeks or so) and the smartly appointed sign and interior drew me in. The menu was straightforward and featured all the usual chip shop fare. After ordering I sat at one of the tables I noticed they also had a small ice cream counter and a covered terrace area out front. The food was fresh cooked and the chips were delicious as was the fish. There were a load of lunch time specials on display and the whole shop had a nice fresh atmosphere to it, particularly with the white walls and recessed lighting. As I was the only customer the woman behind the counter chatted away and she recommended for larger orders that I ring ahead as it can get busy in the evening. Definitely a new worthy addition to the world of great Belfast chip-shops, Pros: Clean, friendly, excellent fish and chips. Cons: Again not the most central of areas. No parking.
