Im sorry. But this place sucks. The restaurant has nice decor but the food is horrible. Ive ate there about 8 times in past 2 years. Some not by choice but of others. Then i was given a $100 gift card with half dozen free queso cards. The tacos, flautas, taquitos, burritos all suck. Key words are " no flavor or spice". And the rice and beans are worse. Even though they put cheese on the beans the only thing you taste is the tin from the can they came from. After having another unmemorable lunch I left the gift card on the table and have no plans to return, even if invited. Best of luck to them but they need a real owner/chef that understand mexican food read more

Amazing food and best margaritas and the service is amazing and servers are hard working

Swirl margarita. If I could stop there, this review may have bumped up a notch. Yes, they had a swirl margarita special on for today @ $4.75. Not bad, good Flav in a frosty pint glass. The queso cheese dip appetizer was good as well, but a small cup will bring your bill up $4.99. Not enough dip for more than 2 people. Our chips were served cold with a sweet salsa. Lacking spice for me. I ordered the lunch chimichanga that included rice/beans. The rice was hands down the worst I've tried. The chimi was rather small, with flavorless ground beef, fried in what tasted like old oil. Unfortunately, overall... not impressed. read more

The service, margs, and queso is why this gets 3 stars. The rest of the food was not worth the 3 stars imo. Great service and a fun atmosphere. They definitely spent time and money on the decorations. But the recipes are needing a boost. Possibly the worst rice I've ever had and the steak fajitas burrito had a 3 to 1 ratio onion to steak and green peppers. However, I got the Chipotle cream cheese spread on the burrito and that was tasty. We got the swirl margs on special and they were good with a healthy kick of tequila. Chips were cold but would be awesome warm. Salsa was a little sweet for me. Now the queso other than price was awesome!!! Again our waitress was great and the queso and margs stole the show. read more

First time here today and had a great lunch. I have to say I love the attention to detail in the decor. So nicely done. I actually felt like I was in Mexico. Everywhere I looked there was attention to detail. So much fun to look around while waiting. We had the queso... so good! I had a basic taco salad and my husband had a pollo burrito with a white sauce. Both were great. Friendly service also. We will come back for sure. read more

We stopped in while in town visiting friends. When in town I try to make it here. It's a staple in the hometown food selection. Today I went with the usual queso for starters. I am a huge fan of the salsa and queso combo. Then for lunch I ordered a carnitas burrito and was pleasantly surprised. The extra spoonbread definitely put my order over the top! The beans and rice accompanied it well. Jake was our server and the flow went well along with his great hospitality. We truly felt valued. I even saw the General manager working while recovering from a shoulder surgery. I used to see him every time I came in. Think his name is Lance...such a hard worker! Glad he is still in charge! Thank you Cafe del Rio for being awesome! Respectfully, Bryan OKC read more

Great prices; great food; and service was awesome! We popped into Cafe Del Rio because it was right near our hotel. It happened to also be Cinco de Mayo so we felt it was fitting. Came in at lunch and didn't have to wait and service was fast. The chips and salsa are delicious! read more

Well, first thing's first, the service was amazing, top notch. The atmosphere was also splendid. Really made me feel like I was in Mexico. The food was pretty good in my opinion, but everyone else I was with wasn't pretty fond. I'd still come back though, that queso was great. The margaritas were bustin! read more

The best queso in Southeast Kansas! I really enjoy the atmosphere. I really enjoy the enchiladas!

Will not be coming here EVER again! We got seated and sat for over an hour without a waiter or waitress even ask if we wanted a water or offer us chips and salsa. They just kept saying they would be with us soon. I understand places are understaffed but the hostess should NOT have seated us if they did not have the staff for it. After we waited for over an hour we decided to leave with no food or drink or anything. Previously, we ate here and when the charge hit our account it was $20.00 over what we had actually paid. When I notified the staff about it, they said they would call me back when the manager got in and I haven't received any calls at all. The food is way overpriced for what you are actually getting. I used to love coming here but it is obvious the person who runs it either does not pay his staff enough to keep up with the demand or just simply doesn't care. There are plenty of better Mexican restaurants that are way cheaper than here, I would recommend Guadalara or El Cabello, their staff is very kind and the food is amazing, every time. read more

so I tried to order some fajitas and I gotten tacos and my wife's order was wrong too!!!

This place is good I recommend it I don't know about you guys but theres some bad reviews I'm not saying its great but its ok sometimes but there cheeseburgers are good and there chili. read more

It's just ok. There is one reason and one reason only to come here. Their white queso dip is to die for. I just call in a large order so I can grab it and take it home. So full review boils down to QUESO GOOD, EVERYTHING ELSE HIGHLY MEDIOCRE. read more

The food is decent but not amazing.Usually get friendly staff to help and its a clean restaurant but too dark in the lighting in my opinion.Prices are ok for what you get. read more

You're better off just going to taco bell. Horrible food, don't open your burrito, it'll leave your stomach turning. Never seen watery pink beef before? Waited over and hour on simple food & waitress didn't seem to update much on the food. Ordered shrimp fajitas and they stuck and burned to the skillet. Very overpriced! If you want to spend a lot of money & see some funny looking food, this is your place to go! read more

I gave Cafe Del Rio a 3 star rating in 2014, but we went to lunch there this weekend, and I had to come back and make an adjustment to my rating. Either they were having a bad day in 2014, a great day today, or they've made some serious changes. The food was delicious. The flautas and quesadilla were fantastic. My wife didn't like the taste of the enchiladas she ordered, so they quickly returned the plate and came back 5 minutes later with a delicious chicken burrito. Service was fantastic. Glad to edit my review and give higher marks. If you haven't been here in a while and you weren't impressed, it's time to give them another shot. I'm glad we did. read more

Food is meh. Service is typically good! Overall not an awful place because of the good service and awesome perfect margaritas.

Our waitress Jordan was super friendly and even offered us a tea "to go". The food though, was pretty mediocre. I ordered the combo fajitas. The steak was pretty gross but the chicken was fair. The cheese dip tasted like it may have been thickened with flour which is disappointing as we don't typically eat gluten. Pretty much what I expected for "mall food". The atmosphere was really nice and clean. read more

One of our go to restaurants in the area. The chips, salsa, and queso are the best. Chips are thin and fresh, salsa is chunky, queso...yum. The real reason I like to go there is the strawberry margarita. It is so sweet, try it. read more

I live in Texas but am moving to Kansas. I have eaten Mexican food from California to the Carolinas and Montana to Mexico. This was not the worst but definitely on the bottom 3! #1 was food poisoning in Mexico, #2 was powdered cheese on tacos in KCMO. #3 here taco shells and chips - stale Salsa - like Pace out of the jar (and I like Pace, but not in a restaurant) Only ate 1 of 2 tacos - grease ran out when tilted - shell was stale Quesadillas were like saltines with a bit of cheese slipped in between The lettuce and tomato (combined) would have fit in a ketchup cup Refried beans, strickly out of a can Queso was good but you can't put it on everything!! Sorry no return Hope to find a better Mexican, or will open my own, I guess! read more

First time I ever walked out of a restaurant,! waited 40 minutes for a steak and a burrito ,20 minutes in they said the were waiting on my steak. a party of 4 came in 15 minutes after us and we're already served. At 40 min in I walked back and asked managers were my food was they were confused and said they made the wrong burrito. Whatever !we drove 2 hours and ended up going to Taco Bell read more

Chips were ok and warm but pretty greasy. Salsa was good and cheese dip was better. I had the beef taco salad and it really had no flavor. The lettuce in it has pretty large chucks and was the rough part of the lettuce. Not what I thought would be good in a taco salad. Waitress was ok. We asked for 3 more minutes to look at the menu, and she didn't come back for 10, literally. Overall and ok place to eat. Would try again, just something else. Others in my party had better looking dishes. So probably just depends on what you order. read more

Thinking back over my life I did the math and added up approximately 15 years I've lived in the Southwest or the West. Outside of the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California, most of the so-called "authentic" Mexican restaurants I have eaten at are downright lousy. Del Rio is not what most Mexicans would call authentic, but it is excellent nonetheless. It would rival most of the places I've eaten at in the Phoenix, Dallas-Fort Worth, or San Antonio areas. I look forward to becoming a semi-regular customer here. read more

Much like all the other Cafe Del Rio's around the Four State Area, it's an okay place to eat Mexican but not worth the price. You're best bet would be to get a bowl of queso to eat at home with another meal. They do have wonderful queso. In my mind it is their saving grace. read more

Yummy, I had tortilla soup starter and it was amazing and then had fajita combo platter. Steak was a bit dry and the rice was not good. They really need a new recipe for that. But I will go back for a big bowl of soup and chicken fajitas. The decor was every cool and unexpected. read more

Having lived in Texas a bit after graduating college, this is not the best mexican or tex-mex I've ever had. But it is really solid and in my opinion, better than 95% of the mexican restaurants in the entire KC metro area. That it is in Pittsburg Kansas (and Joplin Missouri) is remarkable. I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. Service is generally good, though it has been spotty at times. Salsa has excellent flavor and consistency. Queso blanco is good. Tacos are good. Refired beans and rice are slightly better than typical, but not outstanding. I'd much prefer a good ranchero style bean if they offered one. But if I can get good tacos and salsa, I'm happy. Aall in all, I try to eat here about 50% of the times I visit Pittsburg and I always enjoy it. read more

Service was great. I ordered a Mexican Lunch Pasta which was probably not the wisest choice at a Mexican restaurant. The environment was festive, food just ok this time. If I go again I will try mexican food! read more

I really don't get why so many people dislikes Del Rio in Pittsburg. I think Del Rio has fresh good tasting food. I always order their tacos and they always taste fresh and good. When my boyfriend comes to visit me, we always eat at Del Rio and he enjoys it too. If you look in the the Collegio, the University newspaper, you can usually find a coupon for a free cup of queso. read more

This is a really good tex-mex place to eat! They have god lunch specials at fairly good prices. Their queso is amazing! I often get the lunch pasta in queso sauce with grilled chicken. You can also call in and get to go orders. Check for a free copy of the Collegio before going in. The paper often has a coupon that can be used at Del Rio's in it. read more

I love Cafe Del Rio. I moved to Minnesota over 8 years ago and I miss it every single day. So much so that I beg my parents to bring me several Mega Salsa's every time they visit. Do not call this a Mexican restaurant? Do not get the beef fajitas either. More like roast beef in a plastic tortilla!! Gross!

There was a coupon for the cheese queso dip in the free college paper. Glad it was free, queso cheese dip was not very good here. We had to wait a while for drinks. Tea was not sweet. Taco salad was good and my wife liked the fajitas a lot. Would not get the cheese again. read more
