Cafe Circa is the onsite cafe at the Scottish Antique and Arts Centre in Doune. You simply cannot go to the cafe without going to the Centre, that has to be a rule. I'm going to add a second rule: whilst you can go to the Antique Centre without going to the cafe, you really shouldn't.
I'd wanted to visit Cafe Circa for what felt like an eternity. And finally, that day had come. It's slick and comfortable, and very modern in its interior, and there are paintings on the wall; all for sale. I love that the creative mood of the Antique and Arts Centre carries on over to the cafe.
I had a latte, which was lovely. And I opted for the salmon and pea roulade with toasted brioche from the specials board. It was a light meal, but just what I was after from as late a lunch; just enough to satisfy me until dinner. It was delicious: little salmon swirls with a creamy and tangy pea and salmon filling. The smoked salmon was heavenly and fresh. And the toasted brioche brought a nice sweetness along for the ride. This was just enough for me, but if you're looking for a more filling option, there's plenty of larger dishes on the menu. My friend went for the venison burger and the portion was GINORMOUS, with chips and onion rings to boot.
With friendly and prompt service too, I'm already a fan. When I find myself at the Antique and Arts Centre, just how can I possibly resist the lure of lunch at Cafe Circa? read more
