We had an excellent tour at Deanston. Our guide Ben was very knowledgeable and engaging, and handled all our questions. The operation is in an old cotton mill, not a slick purpose built facility. Fascinating. The tasting was fun even tho we aren't whisky drinkers. read more

Deanston is the second distillery visited in the Rabbie's Scottish Whisky tasting tour. I hadn't heard of this whisky before this tour so I was looking forward to the tour. The tour was informative and our guide Matthew was excellent! We had 12 and 15 year tastings. The 15 was pretty good & I liked how they encouraged adding a couple of waters to see the difference in taste & please don't mix your single malt with cola (no no no!) The barrel room was dark and great to see and take in the scents! The surroundings weren't as scenic as our first stop. That said each has its charm & I did like how they offered samples of other varieties besides the tastings. You probably won't find this one at your airport Duty Free so it's either at the distillery or online for purchase. Would definitely recommend! read more

This review is if a whisky tasting at Deanston. Enjoyed their reasonably priced basic tasting of their core line of 12 Virgin Oak, and 18. That was £15. The 18 was unsurprisingly a hit but the no-age-statement Virgin Oak was also nicely rounded if a bit lacking in complexity. But at the price, wow--what a great bottle. In the shops they had not one, but THREE single cask offerings to choose among. Under the expert tutelage of our tasting guide, Jemma, I selected the Pedro Ximénez bottle. Love that they allow visitors to take away something truly unique and from a visit. I visited 4 distilleries today and Deanston's whisky was the most exciting among those four. It is also the most reasonably priced, at least among the core range. Thank you Jemma! read more

Typical tour stop: friendly, without being terribly informative, and heavily commercial. Good news is £10 buys two tastings, and a 1000 hrs, you'll feel Scottish straight away! Good cafe for breakfast, and they'll pack a good value lunch for £5. read more

We stopped at The cafe after and I had tea and the caramel toffee pudding. This was to die for. Moist and so delectable with the cream and topping. I could eat this every day. Our party of six drove here from Edinburgh for a whiskey tasting thru our private tour guide. First time ever thru Europe - our 22 yo daughter was refused service by their rude front desk employee Gemma. Our daughter had forgotten her ID but had a photo of her passport as well as her drivers license - which she flatly refused to look at. There are plenty of wonderful friendly distilleries to visit -this isn't one of them. read more

I became aware of this distillery through watching the Travel Channel. I looked it up and found a tour that made a stop there. The tour around was very informative. The tastings were very nice and opened up different options of whiskey for me as I am trying to discover some new ones. I would definitely recommend making a stop here. read more

My wife and I took part in the Deanston Distillery tour led by Adam. The our was informative and really interesting. Adam did a great job leading us and explaining their process. The tour ended in a tasting where we tasted three very distinct whiskys. We followed up the drinks with some lovely soup for lunch at the cafe inside. Be sure to take a walk along the River Teith, which powers the former mill that is now the distillery. read more

I would like to first say... If you've never been on a distillery tour you may very well find this one acceptable. But for someone who has been to many, you will be disappointed. We took part in the distillery tour recently. Very cheesy. I've been to several others and this is by far the weakest. First they stick you in a room that can only seat six people.....well there were 13 on our tour. They have you watch an introduction on a TV screen with no sound, for 15 minutes. God for bid you don't understand English, which several people in our group did not. What a waste of time. It's so boring that the tour guide even leaves the room while you're doing this. The rest of the tour is hum drum and our female tour guide had such a German accent that you could barely understand her. She spoke like she was reading from a script. Not good at all. Please do yourself a favor and find a better facility that has grand tours. Most of the time we were walking through industrial staircases and old 1970s style hallways. They know that it's a cheesy tour. But they still do nothing to make it better. By the way, the distillery is not owned by the Scott's any longer, a south African conglomerate bought them up. read more

Deanston Distillery is a neat new-ish distillery (started in the 1960s) that is located in a historic cotton mill. They have a modern visitor's centre with a pretty cafe and beautiful gift shop selling not only but also some unique local gifts. I have gone on several distillery tours at other places in the past, and it was interesting to see some different features here. The old water wheel room for the mill now has the hydroelectric power room (Deanston produces all their own electricity and powers the town too). The distillery was at the end of their 'silent period' and, although they weren't currently distilling, we got to see the open mash ton being refurbished and also got to pop our heads into the copper stills since they weren't currently in operation. We also were able to see the area where they fill the casks, which I've not seen at any other distilleries. The warehouse is in the old weaving room of the factory which was interesting to see. The tour was good but the tour guide was new to working there and wasn't terribly well informed and wasn't able to answer our questions, which was a bit disappointing. The tasting room was pretty and the tasting was nice although I wasn't terribly impressed with their whisky itself. read more

My cousins and I stopped at Deanston Distillery on our way to Loch Ness and it was a nice experience. I am not really into whiskey, but I had a friend back in the States who is so I was able to pick her up a very tasty souvenir. The shopkeeper and tour guides were very friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend Deanston Distillery for any whiskey enthusiast, and they have a great breakfast here as well. read more

If you find yourself near Doune in the lower Highlands of Scotland, and fancy a dram....then swing by Deanston. The staff couldn't be friendlier and though the tour isn't the longest (after all, Whiskey only has three ingredients...and then you just wait an awful long time), there is a treat at the end of it; whiskey tasting! There is a large variety to choose from, so depending on your selected option (and who holds the car keys), you can go from a simple taste of their products to blending your very own whiskey.
