Like most places now they tend at times to have a lower supply of bagels for a baker's dozen take-out than they used to; I assume this is due to the issue of finding employees, but I honestly don't know. It's still a quiet, low-end (not in a bad way), easy to find place for lunch. Menu is big enough to satisfy pretty much anyone, from egg dishes to pastrami or corn beef on rye. This is a nice place for bagels. They have a variety of bagels to choose from and they make their bagels onsite, so they are very fresh. I got an Asiago bagel toasted with cream cheese. I enjoyed it bc it was nicely toasted. I also got a vanilla latte, which was ok, not great. It was a bit weak for my taste and not enough foam. I literally look inside to see if he has someone else working the counter before I go in. My first time here, I smiled and asked if they did bacon egg & cheese bagels because I did not see it listed anywhere - the menus posted were very basic. In an attempt to extort money friom its customers they have an unposted cash only policy for purchases that are under $5. A bagel with cream cheese is under $5. This policy is not posted and you don't learn about it until after you place your order. I don't use cash anymore. I'm sure they are hoping you will purchase another item to reach the limit. The only reason this is not one star is because when the food is actually prepared well and your order is not ruined by hate, it tastes good. IT IS THE OWNER, not the teenaged staff that cause issues with the reviewers here complaining about bad service, melted coffe cups, etc.,they are actually very nice and accommodating, even if on the phone occasionally. He is completely rigid and unwilling to actually tell you what he thinks with words because he's an introverted ass, instead sabotaging your order if you do anything that offends his unreadable sensibilities, like say ask for any modifications based on taste preference, even if it means deleting items or substituting items that are actually cheaper than the ingredients on menu. IF YOU UPSET HIS CYPHER OF A PERSONALITY, HE WILL MESS WITH YOUR ORDER Ask for no pickle, you get a pickle. Ask for mustard instead of mayo, get extra mayo and no mustard. Ask for extra meat, but of a different type even though both sandwiches cost exactly the same on the menu, and they offer extra meat if the same, even when willing to pay more, too bad, then it gets real (actually upset him in any way, even if you don't know why and the result is the same). He will crush your cookies like the prior reviewer, he will give you the wrong side, he will leave off toppings you ordered and paid for, and if you complain he will tell you to have intercourse with yourself in the nicest way possible, with no lube, refund or hope of remedy. I should have known not to patronize them even the first time I went there and ordered a macchiato for which the owner dressed me down ahead of time saying it is not like a Starbucks macchiato. Well, I hate Starbucks and know what a real macchiato tastes like, but it seemed like he did not want to sell me one anyway. He is the business owner who thinks the customer is always wrong and instead of being straightforward about it and asking you not to return, he messes stuff up time and time again in minor ways because he is... There is no other way to say this, he is an asshole and a non-confrontational POS, even though YOU are paying him for the pleasure. It's a routine of mine to celebrate the beginning of the weekend with a bagel sandwich, and having just moved, I wanted to find a local small business type shop to make a new tradition with. The reviews gave me pause and I was seriously nervous about poor customer service ruining our experience. My husband ran into the cafe quickly and we made sure to go in with a plan. We both knew our orders ahead of time and decided to just do pick-up and not dine-in. We both ordered bacon, egg, and cheese bagels and juice. The juice was packaged and available in the fridge. The bacon, egg, and cheese bagel was a bit dry and the egg was not seasoned. Overall, I feel that I could have made a better breakfast sandwich at home. The cost was not awful, but I just do not feel that the price and potential for bad customer service warrant frequenting this cafe. We will probably not return. read more

Best bagel breakfast sandwiches in the area, hands down. They make them to-order and you can choose from a variety of tasty bagels. I like the Everything and Asiago Cheese. Never, ever taste stale or overbaked. Just the right amount of crisp and chewiness with a soft, doughy inside. They also have very good flavored coffee (Hazelnut!) and a nice selection of italian desserts. We usually go on Sundays and it's packed with locals, so can be hard to find a seat at one of their mini cafe tables. May take up to ten minutes to get your order when it's busy but it's worth the wait. Parking can be a chore because it's adjacent to a Giant. read more

Today we tried this place for the first and probably the only time. It was just before 2pm. They closed at 3pm. We wanted coffee. They informed us that the cafe did not have coffee because they were closing in an hour. I asked if they took debit cards. Was told "yes". Then when I was getting rang out for my purchase of an iced coffee (which they said was all they could do and made behind the counter) I handed her my card. Was met with an "oh. No. $5 minimum". That's all fine and dandy, but wouldn't you inform the customer of that when they ask if cards are accepted? I bought a few cookies to get my total over $5 and left. When I got in my car and looked in the bag the cookies I purchased were in pieces. Crumbled and busted up. They had been carelessly thrown in the thin paper bag and handed to me. Another thing: the staff. Two young girls and two young guys. They were on their cell phones messing around, loudly laughing and engaging in conversation and not paying any attention to the fact that a customer was there. They didn't care. I am surprised by the very low ratings for Cafe Bagel. We are not in NY. These are not NY bagels. These are respectable MD bagels. If you are not able to get Bagel City in Rockville or Goldberg's in Pikesville, then these are very respectable bagels. Chewy on the outside and doughy on the inside. We have been going to Cafe Bagel for over 15 years. The owner, Andy, is grumpy and has quirky rules about refills and minimum charges. However, he's not usually up front. The kids behind the counter are typically nice, courteous and friendly. They have a nice selection of bagels and flavored cream cheeses. If you're a Starbucks lover, get the iced tea. The omelettes are avoidable. The grilled sandwiches are delicious. The Greek salad is delicious. We usually get a dozen bagels to go, and they are usually still warm. read more

Cafe Bagel is my favorite place for a casual, quick weekend breakfast in my neighborhood. They're located in the same shopping center as the Giant, Fitness 19, and Pazani off of 103 in Elkridge. They serve breakfast and lunch, but I've only had breakfast here which is served all day! They have coffee, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, eggs, omelets, delis sandwiches, and baked goods. I love their coffee and the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a bagel. The eggs here are always cooked to perfection. The cheese is good quality boar's head. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they quality of the bagels isn't anything like an amazing NY bagel. I really stick with the bagel sandwiches here--the bagels on their own are good but nothing too exciting. You order at the counter, grab a seat, and wait for your food to be delivered to you. They have a really young staff, but we've never had any problems here. It can get a little crowded on the weekends, but the service is fast. I also like that they have pitchers of water out...I hate buying bottled water! I'd definitely recommend Cafe Bagel if you're looking for a good, inexpensive, quick breakfast. read more

I'm not sure which is worse here, the food for the service. The gentleman behind the counter couldn't be bothered to get off this phone when I walked up. It seemed as if when he realized I wasn't going to leave the store, he put the phone down in an annoyed matter and just stared at me, as if I was ruining his morning. I placed my order for a bagel and coffee, and the total came out to just under $5. I handed the gentleman a credit card, and he dropped it back in front of me, saying that there was a minimum order of $5 to use a credit card.
