Now we're not talking heavy full pedal to metal kinda night as the participants and birthday man himself had been doing a 24 hour DJ charity gig around Glasgow the day before. So this was a Sunday night just chillin' and grabbing a few beers kinda night listening to all them dirty dirty blues. Da da da da dum! Oh and talking a whole lotta random nonsence. Da da da da dum! At the entrance it spilt into two, venue to left and the bar to the right, here I am stuck in middle..... er em. Sorry! Anyhoo we had a booth which looked like it could be closed to make a private party area. Steady! It was an all round really good night, the decor was non too shabby for a rock stylee venue with fancy wall paper and chandeliers, one girl actually blended into the wall with the top she was wearing. Nice! Drinks what you'd kinda expect to pay in the city centre but overall a fab night out and wouldn't mind swinging by again for some more of them dirty blues. Da da da da dum! Did I mention I saw The Beatles playing in the venue when we left? Very surreal!

Made from "Smirnoff Green Apple Vodka & Xante Pear Cognac, shaken with lemons and apple juice. Finished with a splash of lemonade and a drizzle of grenadine, served in a chilled wine glass." There's no denying this cocktail had an apple zing to it - quite sweet but not too over the top and pretty easy drinking. I'd ordered the twice cooked fries (£2.95) and they arrived pretty quickly and were piping hot. They weren't amazing fries, a little greasy but overall they were pretty decent and we demolished them without any trouble. I then opted to get into a second cocktail - it was a Saturday afternoon, after all. The Black Magic Woman (£6.50) is an espresso martini with "Illy Espresso, Smirnoff Red, Patron XO & brown sugar shaken over ice, strained into a martini glass and dusted with chocolate." Woah. This was GOOD. I mean, really good. A bit addictive, even. Thankfully I wouldn't be able to tolerate two espresso martinis so that wasn't really an option. I loved the chocolate dusting and it was one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. I'd even go so far as to say I would go back to Slouch just for this cocktail, it was that good.

The club is intimately sized and follows a retro early-mid 20th century aesthetic. This is backed up by the fantastic service by the staff who address you as sir and madam. The entertainment began with RadioJam; a guy and girl duo playing acoustic r'n'b, which would normally be my idea of hell but it actually fit the mood nicely and my missus was ready to take them home with us to play in our living room on demand. After a short break, they were followed by the Fortunate Sons and their brand of Americana/bluegrass, which then had us up for a bit of dancing! As mentioned, the place is small so there's no place to hide if you want to throw some shapes. There was also a spot of aerial acrobatics by Silks. It was a short performance but threw up something different and was visually compelling. Swing is apparently famed for its cocktails and i agree. The two bartenders obviously knew their stuff and took pride in the drinks. At the start of the night when it's still quiet, they make more of a show of it and my 'Old Fashioned' was quite impressive compared to some previously had poor efforts elsewhere. Suffice to say, I reflected my appreciation with a good tip. There is a cocktail menu (which i think they vary each week) but they will make whatever you like. Also, while it's quiet at the start of the evening you will get table service but understandably this peeters off as the club fills up. Cocktails are pricey so take plenty of dosh if you're going to be ordering a few. However, beers etc., are more reasonable. Another thing I liked was when a large hen party showed up, clad in sashes and all the usual getup, a polite word was had from the club owner to remove their gear as this, I guess, is not what he wants his club to be known for. And to be honest it was the most dour faced hen party I have ever seen! We booked ahead to secure a table at an exrta cost (£7.50 pp) but folks can pay on the door for £5. I don't love this area of Glasgow - the roads are so confusing, the area is quite industrial and it's not really somewhere you'd head for a pint. Or, so I thought. Once in the doors of the Laurieston, it was like I had an epiphany. It was just like my Nanna's house (although my Nanna's was a bit classier, no offence). It was warm, comforting, welcoming and had some seriously retro decor. As others have mentioned, there's a tasty selection of beers from Fyne Ales but on this visit I opted for cider. We took a seat in the lounge area as the bar was pretty heaving for 1pm on a Saturday (those damn subcrawlers!) and enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality of by far the friendliest bar staff I've encountered in a long time. Over they came to take our photo, find out our story and give us tips and advice on completing the subcrawl. They even have maps for you! That is SO cool and was very handy later on when I'm sure some people didn't know where they were (um, like me). There's a JUKEBOX as well - a proper old school one where some of the cards are handwritten. It tells you that you have to pay, but just push the buttons and you'll discover that you don't. I put on some great tunes while we were there but I'm not sure anyone else appreciated them. Handy tip: the ladies toilet is only accessible from the lounge.

Yes from the outside you would not give it a second glance. It all looks a bit run down and perhaps even a bit dodgy. To be honest the inside ain't much of an improvement on the outside. It is an old bar that looks like it has not been done up in years. Why four a stars then? Well, what it does not have in terms of polished finishes and decor is made up for by the friendly atmosphere and great array of beers on offer. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They supplied Subcrawl maps and made a point of coming out to chat with us. The even took our photo as they take records of all the "subcrawlers" who pass through their bar. I must admit, I stuck to a boring bottle of becks on the drinks front as I was being very careful what alcohol I took on at this early stage. I would like to go back though and try a few of the far more interesting beers they had on offer. 4 stars for a traditional and slightly shabby, but friendly boozers.

That's me bring pedantic the pub is great on a Sunday afternoon when the football is on and as the majority of the people support Celtic it's very atmospheric during a game but everyone is welcome and that makes for a great place to be on a Sunday or a Saturday night The staff are excellent and very attentive and know everyone by name and I noticed that the entire pub is due a major refurbishment , notwithstanding the beer is great as are the clientele once the pub gets done up it may well get five stars

absolutely not an inclusive nor welcoming atmosphere…read more a group of 3 queer, female identifying friends and i were refused entry without the bouncer even looking at our ID with no real reason as to why. we were asked what we had to drink (to which one of my friends truthfully replied "nothing") and the bouncer said we were getting turned away. another group asked them why and they started saying how it was because we "looked too straight." these kind of comments can be extremely damaging and also offensive. a persons outfit does NOT determine their queerness and should not be used as a reason against them. another group of our friends (2f 1m) who were going were let in no problem. this leads me to wonder if we were also only turned away because it was a group of 4 women. the lgbtq+ community prides itself on being open and welcoming, however polo is exclusive, misogynistic and discriminatory. im shocked that in this day and age people are still forcing labels and stereotypes of queerness and gender on to people and at a gay club of all places. extremely disappointing.

So one night, Will's friend Nat, hooked our entire LA Contingent up with his local Scottish Art-Crowd of Super Gay Partiers - And 'We Were Off to the Races!'. Thus, Nat brought Me, and Will, and everyone else from LA to this place called "Delmonicas", for drinks, for dancing, and that "Very Special Local Experience". Anyway my friend called them to let them know we were running late, they were absolutely fine about it. I had checked online where the restaurant was on the map but as we nearing the place my friend said it was down a completely different street. So I quickly turned down the road she pointed to which led to Giffnock train station and there enough was the restaurant. Hmm??! I was bamboozled! So we headed in and I apologised for our lateness and said about our booked table. The waiter grunted and looked at me strange but led us to a booth set out for two. The food was delicious and the service was good too. It was a nice cosy restaurant and I would definitely go again. Anyway it still puzzled me that I had thought the restaurant was in another street. Well I only found out not long after that there is a "New" Turban Tandoori only 5 minutes from where we were. Doh! So no wonder the waiter looked confused at me. The poor other restaurant possibly thought we got lost and didn't bother to turn up. Oops!!! I'll just have to go to the "New" one another day.

As l sat in the waiting area for the order and no word of a joke the order came in less than four minutes no lie. My thought's are that there must have been a bane Marie at the back holding the sauces hot and ready to go, just to add the main item to the sauce such as chicken, beef, lamb, vegetables. The curry tasted fine but lacked in spice and flavour with the chicken having a red tinge to it, other wise it wse ok.
