I wanted to like this place, but there are a few things that made the experience confusing and disappointing. First, the Halo-Halo naming is odd. They have a "Plain Halo-Halo" and an "Upside Down Halo-Halo," but the latter isn't actually upside down--it's just a different flavor. It's confusing for customers. A simpler menu would make much more sense: * Plain Halo-Halo * Ube Halo-Halo * Vanilla Halo-Halo Then let customers choose their ice cream flavor. For example, I could order a Ube Halo-Halo with ube ice cream or a Plain Halo-Halo with ube ice cream. That would be much clearer and more flexible. Another issue is the $1.50 charge just to swap vanilla ice cream for ube. That feels excessive for what seems like a simple flavor substitution. Even if there is a cost difference, it leaves a bad impression. My biggest disappointment, though, is the Halo-Halo itself. It doesn't include many of the classic ingredients that people expect, such as pinipig, saba banana, sweet beans, jackfruit, kaong, or kamote. Instead, it contains cereal, nata, and boba, which makes it feel like a completely different dessert. There was also a tiny piece of what appeared to be leche flan, but it didn't taste like leche flan. If I think of it simply as a unique shaved ice dessert, it's actually pretty good. But if you're going to market it as Halo-Halo, I think it should resemble a traditional Halo-Halo more closely. Right now it feels like a modern dessert inspired by Halo-Halo rather than the real thing. read more

Came in on a Thurs., 5:15pm. We've been the 2nd party in line for the last 20 min. Management, please correct this, with 3 on staff, and no one taking orders, please improve the process. Granted they just opened a week or so ago, and need to work out the kinks, but the staff could've acknowledged the people in line. I want this business to succeed! The one in Northridge is great. So I found this place on Yelp and they got me at filipino bakery. We tried it and will be coming back . Didn't catch the guys name at the register but he was very helpful when we didn't know what to get . He made suggestions and glad he help because everything we tried was delicious . My husband got the specialty drink Halo halo with Ube and I got matcha with Ube . We shared tres leche ube (not to sweet but perfect sweet) Ube brownie soft and tasty . Yummy but Very Pricey! I would recommend once in a while to try it because it is definitely yummy... However, it's very expensive. Cookies, cupcakes and drinks are pricey. I visited today and was second in line, but still waited over 20 minutes because the person at the register had to leave and help make drinks. I understand the location is new, but while assisting with drinks, he noticed friends in line and spent time smiling and chatting with them--meanwhile, customers ahead of them were clearly frustrated with the wait. The only acknowledgment I received was when another staff member making drinks told me, "We'll be right with you." The shift in his demeanor--from cheerful with friends to looking miserable while working--was also noticeable. So happy this place has opened in SCV. I love the vibe inside and all the workers were so, so nice. They had a great turn out for their opening weekend. The upside down halo halo was ube-licious! You can see them scooping the ube ice cream for each one, and you can really taste it.
