We came here after exploring red rock canyon because we were craving a cold treat. We ordered 3 of their signature upside down halo halo and 1 of their regular halo halo. The halo halo was very creamy. I liked that they used boba in their halo halo as opposed to red bean in halo halo which I'm not really a fan of. It also came out really quick, which we were very happy about. This cafe has a lot of available seating and has really good air conditioning which I appreciate. There is also a decent amount of parking available so parking isn't an issue here. I definitely recommend checking this spot out if you haven't already. Try it out if you like. :) read more

What a GEM of a coffee shop! The first thing we admired when we walked in was the life-sized models of Darth Vader and Chewbacca which immediately set the tone for our visit: unique and cozy with a tongue in cheek Star Wars vibe. The menu is extensive and includes some really fun coffee drinks with a scoop of ube ice cream right on top! My hubby snagged himself a cookie butter milkshake and I went with my caffeinated go to... iced coffee but with a sea salt float and boba! Holy smokes were both absolutely delicious AND affordable. My hubby is allergic to Oreos (I know.. what an unfortunate life roll amirite?) and they included them in his shake. When kindly asking if he could maybe choose something different from the menu instead, Alicia and Alison both hopped to making him a very literal BEST COOKIE BUTTER SHAKE EVER. I got a marketing email and was able to snag one of the Valentine's Day heart specials. It was basically in very cute tin packaging, but essentially their Ube cupcake base with cream cheese frosting. It had the perfect amount of Ube taste and the cream cheese frosting and a perfect combination to it. It was super moist and not dry at all, which is what I like from café 86. read more

This is a cute cafe. There's a lot of tables to sit and look cozy enough to do some studying and small get-together. The staff was patient and helpful as there were quite the amount of pastries and drinks on the menu to choose from. I like that each pastry was already individually packed. The mais con yelo dessert and the drink (I forgot its name, sorry) was great. The tree leches was a bit too much ube flavor for me, but my husband liked it. The bread pudding was amazing. The cafe is located in a small shopping center and I stumbled upon it right after dinner. I opted for a sweet treat and service was okay. There was no one at the front to talk to or take my order until I finally locked eyes with someone and they came around to the counter. I finally asked about different desserts and ended up choosing the Ube Flan I wish I asked a bit more because I didn't realize it was more of a cupcake with flan on top, which was my fault. Flan was okay; not too sweet, but had a hard texture not really creamy and smooth. The Ube Cake was good, not amazing, and some parts were a bit dry. Together it made more sense. The dessert was about $6 after tip. So a bit pricey too! Overall I wanna come back to try some other desserts next time. read more

First heard of this cafe on social, passed by the area one day so made a point to come try it out when we'd in the area again. Initially, we were intrigued because of the ube and filipino desserts, which we were happy with the choices. Then we were greeted with the Star Wars + Toyota AE86 decor and decided to hangout in the cafe while enjoying our desserts. We were immediately greeted by the cashier, who was patient as we navigated the menu while trying to keep our daughter's attention. They were also quick to get our order out. Ordered a strawberry calamansi cooler and upside down halo halo milkshake. Calamansi is a citrus fruit, popular in the Philippines, used for cooking and juices. It's similar to lemon and lime. Halo Halo (hah-low hah-low) is a Filipino dessert with ube ice cream, leche flan, beans, jellies and shaved ice. This cafe turns the ube and shaved ice into a milkshake with boba, with the added jellies at the bottom and the additional ice cream and corn flakes on top. I had a pleasant experience getting help from one of the cofounders James. I had an issue with using a reward within the time offered, and he was able to accommodate and personally help me out with re ordering this. I feel like the quality of things here are top notch. You can find basically anything Ube and have anything from little treats to drinks. My go to is the upside down halo halo, which comes with a bunch of toppings , flan, cornflakes , and magnolia Ube ice cream. It is quite large so it's best shared. I see a lot of different locations of this popping up and it's become more and more popular in recent years. If you are craving a sweet treat that is Asian and Ube inspired, I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Picked up 4 bars on Saturday 3/14 and I'm disappointed :( I'm not sure what changed in the recipe but I could only take a bite and the rest went in the trash. Service: Being first timers, the cashier at the time was very nice and patient while we selected from the menu. Due to the ongoing event, I'm assuming the 15 minute wait for drinks is unusual on a regular day. Still warranted a 5 of 5 stars Food/Offering: Settled for the Halo Halo (like most folks that day) and Cali Mango w/ boba. I personally had the Cali Mango which was very good and the boba was cooked thoroughly. The Halo Halo, per my party, was noted to be good as well. 5 of 5 stars Overall: Nice little establishment with a life sized Darth Vader to greet you at the door. We came back. The Upside Down Halo Halo was awesome! The Pastrami Sandwhich was good too. I just wished their staff did a better job explaining ingredients in their sandwich i.e. mayo, mustard, what type of cheese, etc.. When i inquired about the Sea Salt Coffee, he said it's just sea salt. Come to find out it was diluted in so much cream! Cool vibes and chill music inside. I've been coming to Cafe 86 for years because they always have the best ube treats, both original and new. This time, I finally tried the Upside Down Halo-Halo, and it was amazing. I usually don't eat flan, but theirs was richer and creamier than most. My fiancé doesn't typically like sweets, but he really enjoyed both the halo-halo and the ube truffle. The truffle is one of my favorites since it combines ube and Oreo. There is plenty of space and seating, so we dined in. Our food came out quickly, and the staff was kind as always. Shout out to Karina who was really nice and offered good explanations of the drinks/menu items! I remember the OG Cafe 86 from Chino Hills years and years ago. Gone are the days of free hibiscus drinks (literally at that location back then pre-pandemic, you could just fill up on unlimited hibiscus drink). Anyway now to get a free cup of hibiscus you have to order 4 of the same thing - either 4 Ube cheesecakes, 4 ube flans, 4 ube crinkles, or 4 ube truffles. They had a bunch of ube desserts like those just listed as well as ube bread pudding, ube cupcakes, ube brownies, etc. The desserts taste just like the ones at the original Chino Hills location. There's also an extensive drink menu. I was in the mood for a shake this particular day so I ordered the thai tea monster. This was a milkshake made of ice cream, thai tea, oreo cookies. The thai tea was somewhat dilute in flavor, but the shake was still overall really good. I would definitely come back to try other drinks / milk shakes. read more

Service is very friendly in their Filipino based dessert place. They had sofa inside that enabled my aging father to sit and enjoy his halo-halo. It was a little bit disappointing because I've had this same halo-halo in Los Angeles and it they served it with more ice than the sweet ingredients. Also, me and my nephew went here. We are not a fan of this place at all. We were excited to try it. I did get the Ube Matcha. There's just not a lot of places out there that make Matcha good in my opinion there's one specific place on Jones and I believe Desert Inn. They make an amazing Matcha so comparing everyone to them, it's not fair, but they said such a high standard. It's kind of disappointing when you get something that's just not ceremonial grade. Next my nephew got a brown sugar drink. It has the cornflakes and the Ube ice cream on top. He said the ice cream was good. The drink was good, but he wouldn't come back the flaw. He said it was dry. He did order a flan cupcake he didn't even eat because The flaw put them off in the drink so he just didn't eat it which is kind of disappointing. The thrust latches that was truly one of the best things that I had. It was good. It was honestly really good. Everyone there was friendly, the customers, one particular, was a little loud and rowdy. The decorations, and all the other things look really good but again that was good enough for us. I don't know there was just something about it again. I do know these guys have a lot of customers and they are loved by many it just wasn't our cup of tea. I don't think the flavor was strong enough in my drink and it was too floral. I do not like floral. I just have to stop getting much in places and go for a different drink except for one they only specialize in Matcha. Let's start with the good. The shop is large and clean and the decor was inviting. The dessert display was well stocked, clean and easy to distinguish each item. The girl that was at the front counter was neither super friendly but she wasn't unpleasant. Could she be a little bit warmer and friendly, sure, but she was also in the middle of a task. The cons: Man I really wanted to like this. It's different and it's not a common dessert that you'll see. However, it was not good. You couldn't really differentiate the taste of the crust to the bar filling. It fell kind of flat, dry and not pleasant to eat. Also the size to the prize is not justifiably. For almost $6, the bar itself was smaller than a Starbucks brownie. Would I go back, if it's based on this one items, no. Would I want to try something else? Maybe. But it will be awhile before I consider coming in again given the other choices in the Valley. read more

I visited Cafe 86 during one of the monthly JCCM meets - both the parking lot and the interior was packed due to the meet, but the line moved along pretty fast. We ordered a handful of things, including boba drinks and some other pastries. They feature ube a lot, which as a Filipino was right up my alley. Delicious baked treats and refreshing drinks. Absolutely poor customer service. I came here 5 minutes til closing and the doors were locked. Lights were on and the staff just stared at me through the glass. There was another patron outside who told me he got here 4 minutes prior to me and informed me that the door was already locked when he got there. If you're going to close at 8, close at 8. If you're going to close early or take last calls for orders at 7:45pm or 7:30pm then state it on your website or at least put a notification on your door that you may close early due to slow service or running out of items. I stopped in because a coworker recommend this spot. I'm so glad he did. It was worth the drive. I tried 4 things and they all tasted amazing. The Ube cashew brownie wasn't the normal brownie texture, it's definitely denser. The cashew/ ube flavor doesnt compete with one another, its very balanced. The Ube Bread Pudding, i could eat this dessert daily. It doesn't have the sponge like texture that most bread pudding does. It's more compact and the flavor has the island touch. I didnt get ice cream on top because I was taking it home but they do offer you that option. The Ube cookies are very light, airy and crumble easy. The powdered sugar makes them extra sweet but also extra tasty and pretty. I got the pack of 4 cookies that came with a hibiscus tea. Price point is more appealing and now I have some to share at work. The service was pretty simple... turn n burn style but still very friendly. They were pretty packed for 4pm but it definitely has a lounge, hang out vibe. This place would be amazing for a quick cute date spot, a spot to catch up with friends, a coworker "outing". They have a lot of seating. For these 3 items; 4 pack of cookies with tea, 1 small brownie, and 1 medium bread pudding I did pay $30. So it's not the cheapest spot but we'll worth it. Service - 5: The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and recommended her personal favorites. Corn con melo butter cake: 5/5 if you like corn desserts. Good texture. Ube and flan cupcake: 5/5 not too sweet. There's a bakery that makes an entire cake like this where I live, and it's much too sweet there. Ube truffle: VERY sweet, but still 5/5 because I know people like that. My best friend definitely would. Flavor is excellent, especially with the Oreo crumble. Ube poptart: 4/5 pretty dry inside and out. Maybe I just don't love pop tarts. Ube tres leches: I haven't tried this yet, but if the trend continues, I'm sure it's excellent!! Edit: it was delicious! Ube heaven!!!! If you haven't been here, you're kissing out!!! My favorites are the ube butter bar and crinkle cookies... The first time I tried their ube latte today and it's delicious!!! Our server was kind enough to explain to us that she can add extra ube but still have double shots of espresso... you should try it!!!! read more
