The Greenroom - Charming interior, just the right size for a quiet visit or a little convo over coffee

I hadn't been to the Greenroom in quite a while, but was across the street and needed a bite and…read morecaffeine for the Friday afternoon. I walked in a little past 1pm, having studied the chalkboard outside with a delightful-sounding selection of spring specials. As I'm ordering, the barista and I alike see another group walk in. And another. And another-- I'm not seeing anyone else in the rather small physical establishment, and as a former barista am beginning to sweat a bit for this Greenroom employee and all of the orders he is about to have to deal with, seemingly by himself (cue the cheerful chime announcing more customers, and more customers). As I wait for my order, grateful to be the first in this long line, I sit to casually read a book and take my opportunity to observe my fellow patrons of this fine little spot. I hear the barista asking customers if they're okay with waiting, and he begins to ask customers if they're okay with waiting a minute for their orders. I'm content, as I have no urgent arrangements, and the now plastic-gloved barista comes up to me, informing me that they have no lime to garnish the avocado toast I've ordered and asking if that was okay. I assert as much and he returns to the line; I think to myself that he could have saved the time and not told me and I wouldn't have known the difference, but I'm pleased with his attention to detail. I get my to-go box of avocado toast with an egg and am pleased to open it and try a bite. I feel that it could have done with red pepper flakes (my favorite), but the everything bagel seasoning added a nice texture and the overall flavor profile was delightfully savory. As for my drink, which came later, it was the Good Riddance: a vanilla cold brew with lime pie cold foam (which lived up to the name tremendously). It also had what I believe to be graham cracker or pie crust crumbles on the top that were delightful! The drink was delicious and perfect for the spring weather. I sit upstairs as I always do, but specifically on the patio where I can see all of MidCity and the surrounding businesses. There's nonintrusive and enjoyable music presumably coming from the Camp itself? After an hour or so of enjoying my spoils, I return to the counter below to see if the barista is still there now that the rush is over. He is now accompanied by another coworker, blessedly, and I learn that his name is Caleb. We chat for a few moments and I introduce myself before leaving, but not before taking another picture of all the event calendars for the week and month. Now I'm positively fueled for my afternoon and grateful for the relaxed atmosphere. (Thanks for reading this far if you did, and shoutout again to Caleb for doing his job tremendously! He informed me that he enjoys a good rush of customers, and I replied that I would have cried to have been in the situation that he handled with great poise and dedication. The great service alongside the excellent product left me wanting to return quickly!)

I like the monkey bread - it's not too sweet, an excellent complement to their espresso. Their espresso tonic, which I had on my second visit while I was in town, is a delicious drink. Perfect coffee/tonic/syrup ratio. Adorable interior, perfect for a quiet convo or a book read, two things I saw happening when I dropped in. Super friendly baristas too. Excellent!!

Finally got a chance to try out this new coffee spot in Huntsville. They operated as a cart for a…read morewhile until the physical location got built up. It's in the Research Park area, not too far off from University Drive. It's tucked away a little bit, next to the new Viet Crispwich restaurant, but on the bright side there's plentiful parking. The vibes are pretty much immaculate here. Bright, cheerful, airy, but also private if you need -- there are several reclusive booths covered by archways, a perfect hidden away spot to work on a laptop or something. They have cute merchandise and even dedicated items and areas to keep little ones entertained. There's seating indoors and a couple of patio tables and chairs outside too. Service was pleasant enough. We didn't chat much but I was greeted and smiled at and my beverage was ready in a timely manner, so that's all you really need. The menu has coffee classics and then a few seasonal specials. There's matcha too, at least currently. There are supposed to be some baked goods for snackage, but when I visited at about 10:30 on Monday, they only had a few cookies and a brownie. I was hoping for something more in the realm of banana bread or a muffin, but they were wiped out. Maybe Monday is a restock day. They're only open til 2 PM, so definitely a morning/early afternoon hangout only. I got an iced salted caramel latte to go, and I enjoyed it well enough. To me, I really didn't taste any salted caramel, but it was a good iced latte: rich, smooth, almost buttery, and not too bitter. Not as sweet as I'd like but that's often the case with what I consider more "serious" coffee places like this one. If you enjoy coffee, I think you'll like this coffee. It was certainly strong coffee, cause my husband said it was basically emanating off me when I got home. lol. Give them a try and don't forget to take a cute picture with their gorgeous mural! I'll likely return in the future.

We said "cold" but quickly said "I mean iced" and it really tasted completely watered down and was only half way filled in a medium sized cup. This was today and maybe staff wasn't having a good day but service was extremely poor. The lady in front of us asked for something and they didn't have it which she seemed ok with but the staff seemed annoyed she even asked lol. We gave the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe the staff had been asked for the same item multiple times or something but when it was our turn they seemed so annoyed and like they couldn't be bothered at all. The inside of the place is beautiful though and the little booths seemed cozy. Maybe it was just one of those days and we got unlucky but I wouldn't make the trip again.

I still like this place and have even gotten "real food" there…read more Pros: Staff are friendly! They nicely ground the bag of (overpriced) coffee I bought with zero complaints. The breakfast sandwiches and BLT are decently executed, but I'm REALLY not a fan of their bagels. Their bread (particularly the baguette) is fantastic, though. Note: it sells out quickly. You can still pick up your to-go order without having to deal with people. They now have a cute bookshop inside. They make their own cream cheese! Cons: If I'm paying $1.50 for an avocado add on, PLEASE don't let it be oxidized and brown and gross. This makes me sad. Parking is still a nightmare. See above about the bagels. I'm prepared for the hate I'm about to get, but I prefer Bruegger's...which is sad, as I'm sure they're produced and come in frozen. Prices have gone up, but that's to be expected. I would love, however, the option to not add on a side for less moolah. I don't want their straight from the bag chips, random baby carrots, or (somewhat icky) fruit. Depending on the timing, you may be able to get a seat. Or you may be fighting a soccer mom with 4 screaming toddlers just to pick up a to go order. Still a fan, but know what you're getting.

And they offer just enough Schmear as an extra and will toast it for you. It is a quaint place that offers a place to hang out for a while. I would have liked to have had a better breakfast bagel sandwich selection as that is what I was looking for but most of the offerings were on toasted bread.

I've followed loosely since the early days and have always been impressed by the beauty and diversity of the products, and I am pleased that this business has found a permanent brick and mortar home. It's clear that it's very, very popular, as they still sell out of product many days of the week even several years in. This business is veteran-owned as well. However, I've now tried this place 3 times and I just have not been a huge fan of the pastries themselves on any visit. I've held off on writing a review for years because I thought it was something wrong with me or I just got unlucky, but I suppose I have to face the music eventually, lol. Pros: the inside is beautiful! There's not a ton of seating but it's neat as a pin and nicely designed. There's more seating on the patio. Unlike some of the other less positive reviews, 2/3 visits I had lovely interactions with the employees! This most recent visit in particular, the young man working was very friendly and upbeat. My very first visit I remember the staff being a little standoffish, but that was way back when the business first opened and I'm sure opening jitters were still going on. This time, I came with a friend from out of town to catch up before he needed to head back home. We arrived about 2 hours before closing; they were down to 2-3 items each for about 2-3 different types of pastry. My friend just got a coffee; I ordered an almond croissant to eat while we sat, and a chocolate torsades (chocolate puff pastry twist) for later. Of note, the coffee menu is very basic and purist here -- you won't be finding seasonal specials or syrups, just cappuccinos, espresso shots, etc. A little disappointing for me personally but nothing wrong with it inherently. I've had their almond croissant before and didn't love it; I just ordered it again because it was available and generally a favorite of mine. They seem to make theirs by slicing a croissant open and then filling it with almond...something. It's very thin, almost like a glaze. I prefer my almond croissants to have the frangipane baked inside, and also for it to be thicker and more custardy. Idk which way is the "right" way, but this is just my preference. The flakiness factor was good, though parts of the pastry were a little dry. The chocolate torsades I split with my husband for dessert later. It was also just okay. Lacking chocolate for my preference; also, a lot of the chocolate that it did have was still in the form of very tiny chocolate chips that hadn't melted into the pastry and created a sort of hard/almost pebble-y texture when bitten into. Again, I may be speaking in ignorance as perhaps this is how it is supposed to be served; however, this was my genuine feeling about it. All the pastries I've had have been executed adequately, but I just haven't been quite as wowed as many others. This could certainly just be a tastes/preferences thing and I definitely encourage you to give this business a try and form your own opinions about it when you can.

This restaurant is open for breakfast and brunch. They really aren't a lunch type of place to me. There are a few salads, soup, and a few sandwiches. Mostly they have lots of varieties of breakfast foods. We walked in and stood at the front hostess stand about 7 to 8 minutes. I contemplated grabbing menus and finding a place to sit since there wasn't a sign that said wait to be seated or seat yourself. About the time I grabbed menus, an employee approached the hostess stand. She said there was a sign to wait to be seated and I asked her to show it to me. She apologized for the missing sign. We were seated and began looking at the menu. Our server, Logan, showed up and was very friendly. He brought us water to the table and when we were ready, he took our orders. Dave had two eggs over medium, bacon, toast, and fried potatoes. His bacon was cooked like he likes it, the fried potatoes were crunchy, the toast buttered and his eggs perfect. 5/5 I ordered an omelet with ham, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and onions. My dish came with greens with a lemon vinaigrette. The kitchen forgot to put the vinaigrette on. I ordered a side of potatoes. The potatoes were delicious with a nice crunch. My omelet was dry. The eggs were tough and rubbery. It was difficult to cut the eggs with my fork. This is the first time I have had an omelet that was this dry. 3/5 If you are in South Huntsville on Airport Road, please stop by First Watch. I will be back to try other breakfast foods soon. 4/5

I hadn't seen one since I left Northern California, so it was a fun surprise to find this location. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I've been a fan of their Rebel drinks for a long time. Ordering ahead on the app made it super quick and easy--we were in and out with no wait. People might compare it to Starbucks, but honestly, Dutch Bros is on a whole different level. They have way more options than just coffee, and everything is super customizable. I brought my daughter for her first visit, and she's already hooked--we've been back multiple times!
