We came with our family as we were passing through Lucerne Valley. We could smell the smokers from the car and turned around to check it out. We ended up ordering two sampler platters. We chose one pork and one beef for variety. It came with trip tip, sausage, and ribs with sides of corn on the cob and beans. To say that it was fall of the bone good would be an understatement. The food was so tender and juicy. It was literally taken straight out of the smoker. The food was excellent. The owner Dennis came by to check on everything. When we told him how good everything was he offered us more. We graciously obliged. He wanted too make sure were went leaving hungry. We didn't, we left stuffed and ready to come back as soon as we're in the area again. Thanks again for the great food and wonderful hospitality. 5 STARS! read more

Best tri tip sandwich on the planet, and the homemade chips are da bomb, though in all fairness everything that I tried there was very very good. Do yourself a flavor weather your hungry our not, stop in and get something you won't be sorry. A cool little place with a just right vibe. The owners, husband and wife team AL and Kathy are wonderful people and bless the whole valley with their presence, and their crew of great people are totally on point. Coworker and I stopped here on our way back to the work and I got a veggie burrito and he got a no meat burrito. Have to say that it was one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had! Bummed I don't live anywhere near here so it will probably be awhile before I get to try the place again. They have a huge menu so there is something for everyone. Cutting through the valley en route to Bakersfield, we decided to stop and try them out. Their sign boasted the "greatist" (sic) burgers, and wanted to check that out. Food did take some time, but the staff seemed to be quite small. However, very pleasant as we're all of the patrons - who all seemed to know each other. A little bit of nasty in the middle of nowhere... I really like out of the way places...sometimes you find some real culinary gems. In the case of Cafe 247...well, let's just say you might want to skip it on your way to off-roading heaven. The food is course, greasy and frankly, a bit tasteless. I have eaten there a few times (hoping that the next will be better than the last)...and it has always been less than stellar. I don't get it. I've tried this place several times because they were the only ones out here with Wi-Fi. Not only is the Wi-Fi super slow, if you can get on at all, I found the owner to be rude and the food to be disgusting. I did not know you could screw up fried zucchini. Honestly, I've never had anything like them before. They were indescribable, not to mention very expensive for the portion. The hamburger in the tacos and other food must be the red-slime variety as it is just gross with no flavor whatsoever. They definitely don't season their food. The taco salads are tiny. The french fries taste like they have been cooked in old grease. I also don't like going into a sit-down restaurant and being served on paper plates. They don't have a dishwasher or so that is what one of the employees told a customer one day when I was there. This place does a very good business both among locals and the off-roading crowd. I eat at this place whenever I work in Lucerne and it never disappoints. I usually get some kind of burger today I had the BBQ burger with the waffle fries and it's delicious as always! The Ortega burger and turkey are also great choices and you can't go wrong with BBQ which is Friday-Sunday. Prices are a little steep but it's worth it for the quality! read more

We stopped here on our way back from Joshua Tree National Park and the staff was very friendly! They checked on us a good amount. The food was very good! The burgers were huge! Decent amount of food per plate. I would definitely recommend this location for a good bite to eat! They serve milk shakes/malts that were expertly made! They also serve beer. We stopped here for a late breakfast on our way up to Big Bear. Even though it was after 11:00 they accommodated us and made us the breakfast special anyway. The food was delicious! Other reviews are completely true! The food is laughably overpriced, the bbq is like pouring a container of salt in your mouth and the meat is fatty and tough. I really cannot think of a single reason to support this tourist trap. The owners are rude to other business owners in town, apparently they don't realize it's bad business to treat people who have lived in this town their whole lives like garbage. If you read other reviews on here they don't agree with, they get downright nasty. Myself and many other locals have chosen to boycott this place, not that it will be hard, there's nothing worth missing there. read more

This is far the best place around. Been here several times, the burgers are amazing, great taste and large portions. The best is actually the barbecue brisket on the weekends. I really wanted to love this place because it is a fun idea. Unfortunately after about 10 visits I'm going to give up. I like the way the restaurant is set up, the setting is fun and it shouts, come as you are have some fun and good food with friends. The food to me disappoints from that greatness that I imagined. I think with more attention to the food quality this place could deliver 5 stars. The pulled pork sandwich that I had yesterday afternoon made me sick. I have not been sick in 10 years at least. I'm hoping the owners can read this post and improve the food source so no one else gets sick. I think this cafe could be a great destination with better food. read more

The fiancé was craving ice cream after our Sunday spent at Big Bear. We drove past this place and I saw a sign, pointed and said, "Look!" "ICE CREAM!" He almost slammed on the brakes, but we were towing a boat. So he drove until he could turn around safely. My daughter had an oreo shake and my son had a cone. The large cone REALLY is a large size. It was true to its name. The fiancé had a sundae and I had the banana shake. IT WAS DELICIOUS! I was expecting vanilla ice cream with banana flavoring. Nope. It had REAL bananas in it. We weren't hungry because we had a picnic before we left Big Bear, but the burgers that were coming out of the kitchen smelled delicious. We will definitely stop in next time we're in the area. They have a seating area outside. We brought our pup along on the trip and don't like to leave him in the car. So it was nice to have that option. The staff was friendly as well. read more

In a homogenized and shrink wrapped world I like to try to find the funky, the homey, and the non corporate alternatives. This place is certainly out of the way - but the burgers and fries are GREAT! And the prices are actually lower than a lot of the crappy franchise chains (You listening Ronald?). May not look like much from the outside but they are wizards at combining ingredients to provide a savory lunch at a really reasonable price - it's going to be my go to stop when I travel from Las Vegas to Palm Springs - really excellent lunch! read more

Not sure where these 5 star reviews are coming from. I stopped there a couple of days ago and had the WORST burger I have had in years. Beef with so much TVP (soy filler) that it was gray, didn't even look like beef, and completely tasteless. The fake grill marks only made it more of a joke, since it was obviously finished on a flat top grill. I have stopped there in the past and the food was OK. New owners, two years ago, have chosen to cheap out and serve crap. Won't be long til the rest of the travelers hear. Sad thing is that it's the only game in town. This place was much better when it was known as Pops & Pams. Now it should be called Slops and Crap. Too bad, actually. It's in a great location, at the intersection of State Highways 18 and 247, the gateway to the high desert and Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead. I've had the misfortune to eat there twice: once for breakfast (vomit, see Holly L's description) and once last Fall for a simple order of chili-cheese fries (Sysco frozen fries and nasty brick style chili.... gaggy). At least the diced onions were fresh. If you're in Lucerne Valley and jonesing for burger fare or some good chili, stick with The Burger Depot at the West end of town. read more
