I love walking up Lock 29 to grab a drink to take along with me on my walks! Their parking lot is extremely difficult to deal with if there's some cars there, so I recommend parking down by all the shops & walking up! Easy access on the sidewalk, or you can cut off the trail like I do to get up there. It's worth the hassle!

A coffee shop that I can easily visit between hikes in a national park? Heck yes!…read more I stopped by the Peninsula Coffee House and Market during a weekend trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park this year. I was lucky and snagged a parking space in front of the business; their parking is VERY limited and I'm surprised I didn't have to use a lot that was across a bridge. (Note that the bridge is right by the coffee shop, so it wouldn't have been a long trek at all.) I ordered a Butterscotch Latte and a Sausage, Biscuit & Egg breakfast sandwich; snagged a seat near the front of the store; and settled in for a relaxing break between my hikes. The coffee was excellent and the sandwich really hit the spot! While seating in the lower level is limited, I've learned reading other reviews that there is an outdoor patio and an upper level too. Their website mentions that they run a sundry market here too; however I didn't spend much time shopping in the interest of not stretching my wallet too far during my travels. I also didn't check out the wine cellar in the lower level. While this shop is little, it clearly has a lot to offer, and I am so glad I found it during my visit to Cuyahoga. I'd absolutely stop by again during future visits to the area...and I'd love to time my next visit so I can check out that wine cellar!

Kava Culture - Forgot to snap a photo of the ceremonial tea that was on the house before I even ordered. Such a welcoming experience!

What a fun place! I was looking for a coffee pick-me-up in what felt like the middle of nowhere and…read morefound this coffee shop on Yelp. I'm always up for a coffee shop adventure, so I drove over--and wow, was I in for a fun surprise! Kava Culture isn't your typical coffee shop--it's a whole new take on drinks and hangouts. I was greeted right away by the friendly barista (bartender?), and when I mentioned it was my first time, she immediately launched into sharing the vision behind Kava Culture. The menu features plant-based, health-conscious, alcohol-free drinks, teas, and coffees. She patiently explained the health benefits of each tea option, which I really appreciated. The first "bula" is on the house--a ceremonial tea drink served in a coconut bowl. It was surprisingly creamy with a little tingly after-effect that warmed my tongue. The barista even took the tea shot with me after a shared toast to good health and a cheerful "Bula!" Such a thoughtful way to welcome guests and make the experience feel personal. I ordered the cold brew coffee with added kava, which is said to help stabilize blood sugar and reduce stomach upset. All the creamer options are plant-based, so I went with macadamia nut milk, sweetened with a bit of maple syrup. The coffee itself was delicious--smooth, rich, and refreshing. But then came the sticker shock: my 16oz coffee rang up to $12 before tip. That's more than I've ever paid for a coffee in my life--and I've had some pretty epic brews in Vienna, Florence, Budapest, San Francisco, and NYC. I guess you're paying for both the premium ingredients and the one-of-a-kind experience. Despite the price, I'd definitely come back--if only to introduce my family and friends to the vibe and kava drinks. The shop is open 8am to midnight, and I love their vision of offering the community a sober alternative to the bar scene. There's a lot to love about Kava Culture, and I'm glad I found it.
