The name is a tribute to the 100th Battalion In WWII where the founder, Richard Miyashiro, served and the restaurant first opened in 1946. Another must stop when in Hilo! Loco loco plates were very large. My boyfriend and i shared the double loco plate which was around $11 total. It came with two burger Patties, two over medium eggs, and 4 large scoops of rice with a ton of gravy. This was perfectly seasoned and was not salty at all. My parents shared the super loco which included the burger patty, Portuguese sausage, spam, eggs, gravy, rice, and Mac salad. They loved everything especially the Mac salad. We came with a large group of 16 people and made 3 separate orders. They did a fantastic job at making our food quickly! Other items our party ordered and loved were the Katsu chicken, BLT, bento box and the phenomenal French fries. Definitely recommend stopping by this place when on the big island! read more

Tossed salad just okay, not a fan of the ketchup based dressing that it came with. Tomatoes were hard and bland. Visited on Wed around 11am. 3 people ahead of me and 1 person taking orders. Took about 10 minutes to get my order, about 20 minutes end to end. Cafe 100 was on my bucket list after reading its history and that the loco moco originated here. Earlier today (Friday July 28), we finally stopped in for lunch. Obviously, that's what I ordered, while my wife got the chili dog special. Hers cost more because it came with two scoops of white rice and a scoop of potato macaroni salad. Because my loco moco didn't come with anything, I helped my wife with her lunch, so it worked out. One star deduction for not having a restroom. I have never stayed in Hilo until recently. I've always just flew in, picked up a car and relatives then drove to Kona,. I've always wanted to spend some time in Hilo and explore the restaurants and farmer's markets there and one of the places I wanted to go to was Cafe 100. I met up with my son and we went straight to Cafe 100 to pick up lunch. Because of the pandemic there is no dine in. We then took our lunch to a near by park to eat. We had a stew and laulau plate, a chili dog plate and a bento. All I can say is that everything was delicious and I wish Oahu had more drive inns like this because they bring back fond memories of favorite drive inns from the past. Super loco moco is the best!!! It has alll the meat you can think off. It has spam, Portuguese sausage and hamburger patty. The hamburger patty is cooked fine. It is not overcooked by any means. The gravy had that semi- thick consistency. It's not salty either. The eggs are cooked well. Macaroni is ok, too much Mayo for my taste. The noodles are not mushy or overcooked though so that's good. Three words, Super Loco Moco. Cafe 100 is a local joint that has some of the best loco moco I've ever had across the Hawaiian islands. This plate contains a variety of meats, including portuguese sausage and spam. An over easy egg that drizzles over the meats with rice, complimented with some creamy maraconi salad all comes together perfectly. This place is a good option when most restaurants are closed for dinner. Typical local foods. We wanted to try the fried chicken and by 5:00pm they were already sold out for the day. Our dishes included loco moco, chicken katsu plate and the steak plate which was on the Wednesday special. The loco moco is more like a mini size. Sadly it did not include the Mac salad, just a scoop of rice, eggs and patty with the gravy. Serving was really more like a kids size, so definitely order the others on the board for an adult portion. It tasted Iike any other loco moco. Katsu was good, serving was a good size. I wouldn't think that a place wouldn't put the condiments inside of a cheeseburger, they stated AFTER I asked about where my mayo was that they don't put condiments inside. $7 for a burger you would have other things besides lettuce cheese, burger and bun yet they dont. They serve Loco Moco and its variations, with other Hawaii style plate lunch foods such as beef stew, chicken katsu (special on certain days), burgers, etc. The loco moco portion sizes are reminiscent of the "mini" sizes which are smaller servings of the usual plate lunch plate. Today, was not feeling up for a traditional loco moco, so we had the stew loco - basically rice, beef stew and an egg. The traditional loco moco consists of rice, hamburger steak patty, with an egg on top. Your preference on how your want your egg done - sunny side up, easy over, etc. Lots of parking here. With shaded al fresco seating on picnic tables. This place is really busy during the lunch hours. Even coming here at 2pm, there was a line of 5-6 people ahead of us. They make it easy for take-out orders by giving you a cardboard box to take your orders to go. You order your food at the window, wait for the food, they call out your number, you grab your food. My fiancée and I stopped in Hilo for a bite to eat on our way to the tropical botanical garden. I chose the island girl plate which had beef teriyaki, breaded shrimp, white rice and mac salad. The plate was good and the service was fast. I also got a guava juice which was super yummy and refreshing. I also tried the loco moco per a friend's recommendation and it was good, different because I had never tried it before but good! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, reliable bite to eat. It is also very reasonably priced compared to a lot of places on the island, I think we spent around 40 dollars for 3 plates and 2 drinks. So glad we made it out to Cafe 100. The Super Loco Moco was very good. Slice of spam, 2 slices of Portuguese sausage and egg. The gravy was tasty and the meat was not too heavy. I had the grilled Ahi with fried chicken. The Ahi was cooked well done, it was 2 very thin slices so it's tough not to cook it all the way. The chicken was fried perfectly. Staff were so friendly and helpful because there were so many items on the menu. I would come back if we were staying in Hilo. read more

Taken for what it is, Loco Moco is quite good when you consider the simplicity of a burger patty on rice with brown gravy topped with an egg done over easy. The fam tried four different varieties including the original, teribeef, teriburger, and the Halloweenie Loco. Of all four, I found the teriburger to taste the best with the teribeef, being my least favorite. To be clear, none of anything I tried was bad. I couldn't find where all the hype came from and I didn't understand the tour bus that stopped and dropped about thirty people off. I will definitely be doing some homemade Loco Moco but probably won't HAVE to make it back to Cafe 100. read more

This restaurant has a long history in a small town and they're known for a large variety of loco moco which is typically a bed of white rice topped with a burger patty and then covered with a sunny side up egg and smothered with brown gravy. This has evolved into a choice of meats, ranging from sausage, fish, teri beef, and spam. I would regularly go there on Wednesday and pick up an order of tripe stew which was some of the best. The first thing I noticed was the increase in prices which didn't surprise me given the high costs of everything nowadays. Also noted that they've adjusted very well to managing customers with COVID-19 protocols in place. Instead of a loco moco or tripe stew, I ordered the katsu curry over brown rice. The order came out ready in less than 10 minutes and that was impressive. The order included 5 breaded chicken patties that were covered in panko and then deep fried. Also included two scoops of brown rice and a scoop of macaroni salad...a staple with plate lunches. Now the disappointing part...the curry was absolutely flavorless. Didn't expect that and I'm a huge katsu and curry fan. I had one patty before tapping out and I ended up throwing the rest out. I'm guessing that the old time cooks have since retired but will probably not return. Can't recommend at this time but I may have had better luck with the tripe stew. read more
