Cheap, but you get what you pay for. The Chicken Katsu tasted like the fryer oil, and not chicken at all. Potato salad was okay. The soup was good. I won't be visiting again, I would skip and go elsewhere. read more

Cheap, cheap, cheap! A family of four ate for $16. We ate there for breakfast. We got one loco moco and three bacon loco moco. It was delicious! Really good coffee that's really inexpensive. The food was great, the service was fast and the place is clean. read more

Yes, yes, y'all. This is it. Are you starving? Are you broke? Cafe 100 will take care of you. Loco Moco $2.75. Need I say more? I liked their gravy better than other places. Their patty was different, and I think that's where it could be improved if you had to mess with things. The rice relies on the gravy and egg for flavouring, so make sure you've got a good mix of stuff on your fork. They also have cheeseburgers and other stuff in the same price range. I have no idea why people end up at L&L and McDonald's with this place in town. They are just as quick and OH so much better. I ate here multiple times, so I disagree wholeheartedly with the guy that thought they were slow. Unless you have a cast iron stomach, you probably don't want to eat here early on or before you are really and truly ravenous. If you are looking for high cuisine, go someplace else. Do not swim after your loco. ;) This is polynesian greasy spoon folks. :D You can pick what type of rice you would like, which is a nice option, even if this selection is more or less standard across restaurants. This is one of the few places to eat late at night in Hilo, too. read more

We became part of the Hilo community, joining the locals for Cafe 100's famous loco moco lunch plates. Although there might have been a couple of tourists like ourselves, most of the clientele were Hilo residents on lunch break. I don't know how they manage to put the big portions of great food for the prices they charge! My Super Loco Moco was ono! We fed our family of 5 for less than $30. The staff is friendly, offering to fill our water bottles, and making sure that we liked our order. We'll make a trip back here the next time we visit the Big Island. read more

Went for lunch, and was quite pleased. This is the classic hawaii plate lunch joint (open since 1946!). You place your order at the counter window, wait a few minutes to pick it up, and grab a seat at one of the dozen or so outside, covered tables. My son got the kids cheeseburger & fries, my wife got a bento, and I got the Kilauea Loco plate with a mango granita to wash it down. I love this cafe because you can have local food & eat healthy. They are one of the few places that offer brown rice. They also give you the option of toss greens or the local famous mac salad. On thier favorite dish on Monday's Braised Beef Noodles you can opt out for no noodles & take the brown rice & salad for a healthy twist on a local plate lunch. You can get a good meal at a reasonable price. The beef stew is the main thing I love there. It is the best on the island. The staff is curious, friendly & helpful. I have had no issues with this local cafe. I would say if you don't at least try their Kalua Moco or their beef stew you will be missing out on some great food. Their prices are afforable. read more

Great for a quick bite to eat. They had a ton of Loco Moco combinations, but I got the island girl combo plate. The teriyaki beef was excellent, but the fried shrimp was average. Dad and his friend order teriyaki burgers, but they weren't too impressed. Would definitely come back if I'm short on time and need a reliable meal. read more

It's so interesting to people watch here. The locals- know what they want- what they are getting and - thats why they come. The "others"- keep asking questions about whether things are organic, what is the healthiest thing on the menu, are there preservatives, do you have a side of fruit., etc. I'm not kidding. Good as always. Great comfort food. Not healthy but darn comforting. Tried the fried rice loco this time around and it was just right. Not a large portion but for $4.25 I couldn't argue. Fried egg on top of a ground beef burger patty (good size), on top of hawaiian style fried rice (da kine wit Portuguese sausage) all smothered in brown gravy. Not hungey any more but not feeling sleepy from over eating either. Just enough to recharge and feeling good. I would recommend this if you've only tried the regular loco moco. This is no frills local joint. We had an order of double loco moco and an order of loco meatloaf. The food was plentiful. We judge the local moco on the quality of the gravy because it's gonna be a frozen patty, a couple of fresh eggs, and a mound of rice. The gravy tasted homemade and not from powder or a jar. I love Cafe 100!!! Whenever I fly to Hilo, this is the first place I go! Food is delicious, prices are AWESOME and people are so friendly. Try everything! That's what I do. But my ultimate favorite thing to eat here is the Oyako loco. It's a chicken patty on rice covered with an egg and yummy gravy. Yum!!! The only negative thing I will post about here is that they are closed on Sundays which is usually the day I fly out of Hilo so I can't enjoy 1 last meal at Cafe 100. :-( read more

This is said to be the epicenter of locomocos. The loco mocos are pretty cheap here. I think a year ago they were only $1.50 but now they're $2.50. Still a good price. I would recommend getting the regular locomoco instead of trying one of their more creative ones. read more

An amazing number of choices, some very exotic to mainlanders. Wish we would have chosen something a little more adventurous but the ahi and mahimahi were very good, especially for fast food. The lilikoi juice was delicious.
