I googled cool places to visit in Berlin and this location came up as the actual restaurant that the scene from "Inglorious Bastards" was filmed. We were close to the cafe so decided to give it a try. We of course ordered the Apple strudel and pumpkin soup. The pumpkin soup was delicious and the the food presentation was so appetizing. The strudel was a little dry but pretty good. The service was really , really slow and it took awhile for us to get our order. I would check it out. It was an interesting place for sure. read more

There are many Einstein cafes in Berlin but don't be fooled this is the one. We wanted to visit based on that infamous Apple Strudel scene from that Tarantino film. Movies aside this place is just cool and classy. The servers know a thing or two about great service and the food, oh the food! We ordered the scrambled eggs with bacon & onions, smoked salmon with bagel and Chicken club sandwich with Cappuccino. We shared a Chocolate Torte for dessert-amazing! The eggs were scrambled and cooked to perfection (asked for soft scramble), chicken club was also tasty as well the Salmon. We shared a Chocolate Torte for dessert-amazing! We got a tour of the 2nd level which has a former cigar/smoking room as well a Scotch drinking room. They will also show you the room where that famous scene was shot. Amazing food and ambience. This location is the original location where the infamous apple strudel scene in inglorious basterds was shot. This place however is independently famous for its food and apple strudel. First off, the apple strudel here does not come with whipped cream like in the movie. The cream is just normal liquid cream. Arrived at about 11:15 am and was told the wait time was about an hour. Boy is this place busy for a Wednesday. It's famous. Well this is my first time in Berlin, and I know I'll never return, so I definitely will wait. As soon as I'm seated I'll continue this review. Got seated in about 15 minutes. We're a party of six. The service excelente. Took our orders quickly and professionally. They don't poach eggs, so I had mine hard boiled. Not much you can do to mess them up. Perfect. The danish, salmon and bacon great. I enjoyed a couple meals at Cafe Einstein during my trip in the patio area out back and it's easy to see why this place is so highly regarded. The food was delicious, both mornings my family did various dishes including the omelette, scrambled eggs, and set breakfasts along with excellent cafe au lait which comes as separate coffee and steamed milk to combine at the table. The interior is nice for sense of old Berlin but having such nice weather made the back patio more attractive. The crowd is mostly German professionals with a handful of tourists mixed in. Having gotten in to Berlin very late, I started calling around at 10pm to see who was still open for dinner. I reached the Einstein Stammhaus and they told me the kitchen closed at 11, so I rushed over. I was seated in Dominique's area, and she was over quickly to take my order. The menu has quite an interesting variety, and I was quite famished so it was game on. Rollberger beer, a tuna ahi appetizer, and Wiener schnitzel main course. The ahi tuna - these guys get it amazingly right. Huge chunks of tuna, seared lightly and sprinkled with sesame, served atop a mango chutney with microgreens and a balsamic glaze. Fantastic! The schnitzel - well, I guess Dominique took me at my word when I said I wanted the large (there is a smaller option). It was wider than the dish, resting atop crispy potatoes, and with both berry garnish and lemon available to season it with. For the last dish of the night that the kitchen made, it was absolutely perfect. Exceedingly thin, breading not too thick, and very tender. Lest I forget, it also comes with a side of cucumber salad, which was both crisp and slightly herbed, with a very clean finish. Dominique continued to be very attentive and was there whenever I needed anything, yet didn't hover over the table. The ambience is muted, with candles burning on unoccupied tables and the light turned low. With the vaulted ceilings and numerous mirrors, the place feels larger than it is, yet still intimate. This is a great spot for dinner, and I will look forward to my next opportunity to visit. read more

The cutest cafe I have ever been in! I felt like I was in a movie. Such a nice, classy ambiance. I was so happy. It's in a old building and looks so vintage inside and out. Even though it's a chain this one stands out from the rest. It's got an old timey vibe that I really liked and even the newspapers they have for you to read are on big wooden holders. Went for Christmas day brunch and it was just perfect to start off the day. Was really happy it was open on Christmas. Our waitress was really nice and helpful with my choosing of what to order. I noticed most people were getting the tier of goodies for 2, which comes on a cake tier with pastries and sandwiches and such. That looked good but decided on something else, it was bit pricey for me. I wasn't too hungry so I just ordered Wiener Frühstück which is / 2 rolls, butter, jam, 2 eggs in a glass for €5,80. For my beverage I ordered a cafe americano, which I think was about €3/4 and to my surprise they did some latte art on it. A cute little heart, which I loved. Adds a little something extra. My meal was simple but good. The bread was fresh and it filled me up. My boyfriend ordered the Kräuteromelett mit Hürtenkäse, Blattspinat und Zwiebeln which was an Herb omelette with feta cheese, leaf spinach and onions on homemade malt bread and marinated rocket salad. I really enjoyed this cafe. It's quaint and peaceful. The service is the best we've had in Berlin (or Germany for that matter). Our waitress was very gracious and attentive. Yum! My boyfriend and I came here twice during our holiday in Berlin. The first time we visited was during dinner time. We both got the wiener schnitzel and it came with a side of cranberries and potatoes. The potatoes were delicious and so was the schnitzel. The second time we visited was for breakfast and this was the best breakfast I've had in a while. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the fresh orange juice was perfect. The croissants really steal the show. They're flaky, buttery, and so delicious. The butter and jams served alongside the pastries are also delicious. read more

Einstein is one of my two favorite coffee chains in Berlin. I like it because of the strawberry quark, delicious and strong lattes and friendly service. Once the Barista sees that you come in a few times a week, she will give you a stamp card which is extremely helpful for my fellow coffee addicts. After five to seven coffees, depending on the price of the coffees purchased, you can get a free one. My favorite branches of Einstein are this one and the one under Savingplatz S-bahn, because they are not too crowded, close to my apartment and have the friendliest Baristas.. After reading rave reviews in TimeOut and hearing that Tarantino had spent every day there while filming Inglorious Basterds and even filmed a few scenes there, it was placed on our must-see list for Berlin. And I'm glad it was! This place is completely adorable and authentic. The waiters are very attentive and helpful at choosing from the menu, especially because they speak perfect English. We split a fish appetizer, I had the weiner schnitzel and my boyfriend had a delicious beef dish with an apple sauce like side. We also had specialty cocktails that were delicious (I have included a picture of mine). My only complaint was that it took a while to get our check, but it's better typically that they don't want to rush you out but I was so jetlagged that I was eager to get back to our hotel room. read more

The cafe is in a house on the ground floor. It has a nice decor, that is however a bit dated. There are large cracks in the walls and on the ceiling. They offer a small selection of German and Austrian dishes as well as sweets. The Apfelstrudel is nice but nothing special. The Topfenstrudel comes with a passion fruit sauce that is very good. The cafe latte is standard, I would rate it as average. Given that 2 pieces of cafe and 2 coffees cost 23 Eur I have to say it is way overpriced. I won't go back. There are plenty of better cafés with better quality coffee and better cake in Berlin. read more

I got here at 10 am for breakfast. I ordered a coffee and the food came (which was three pieces of falafel and some cut up fruit) an hour later the coffee was cold. I'm not sure if they are understaffed but it took a while for the server to take our order. The place is overpriced for what the food is. The only thing that I enjoyed was the outside which was nice but there are bees everywhere so if you're allergic I would not sit outside. read more

I think this place is great for a nice and relaxed chat over lunch/late breakfast. I came here with my mother and we both greatly enjoyed the service and solid standard of food. She ordered a white asparagus soup, I got a lobster bisque and eggs with salmon. We also got green tea and a cappuccino. The food was solid, even considering the moderately high price tag. A more luxurious breakfast with a few cappucinos ended up costing us 50€ which is definitely not on the cheap side nor was it that excessive to be honest. Any restaurant with high ceilings usually gets a downgrade in my mind. I think it makes the place not as cosy and there's normally a cafeteria- or convention-hall-like echo/atmosphere. Having said that, this art nouveau cafe is a wonderful place for breakfast. I love their black teas and coffee, and the way they present their food. Although the name-sake cafes around town are a total disaster (unless cute baristas are important to you) and the branch on Unter den Linden is a draw for meals in Mitte, THIS original is where the best food is served. The original Einstein simply has THE BEST apple strudel I've ever eaten and that includes tasting them from Prague and Vienna to Budapest. Their matching coffee choices are excellent as well. Go for anything from a hearty club sandwich to the Wiener Schnitzel (ask for the half order which is huge enough!); it's all right there on the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. In summer, sitting in the back garden is better than a massage for total relaxation. In winter, the stark but real setting makes you realize that, yes, you ARE in Berlin. A stand-out! read more

I would give 20 stars if I could... And If you can only eat in one cafe when visiting Berlin, this is the one that you should do so! Sunday brunch was marvelous!! We had 4 adults and one child , so we ordered cafe, espresso and tea to start. Then the goodies started to arrive. we decided to order 2 - Einstein-Frühstück for 2 Persons for the table to start, it was more then enough for the 5 of us. But the service was what made the experience as great a visit as it was. Our server was a warm and friendly women that anticipated our every need. The place has a lot of atmosphere and is spacious. The table are in general at a good distance, and you can chat freely. It is not noisy. Waiters are wonderful: old style. Service was very cordial and attentive. Food excellent: a great appetizer of tuna fish, huge and tasty wiener schnitzel, great venison. Nice wine list, not overpriced. For water they offer a caraffe, if you like, of tap water, not frequent in the upscale restaurants. One of my preferred Berlin restaurants. read more
