I pulled up my Yelp App and it lead me to Roosters (100m away from where we were). Roosters is a typical (non-chain) university campus eatery. It serves coffee, tea, baked goods, and basic sandwiches and breakfast items. Both my friend and I got a drink called "Iced Awesomeness" lol. It's basically espresso, your choice of milk (skim, 2%, soy, or lactose-free), ice, and your choice of flavour shot. We both got the small size which was $2.66. I got mine with skim milk and an almond flavour shot. I honestly couldn't taste the almond in my drink and I found the ice a bit gritty. In my opinion it definitely could have been better blended. The drink was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. If I were to base my rating solely on the drink I would have given them a 2, but the place was clean and seemed like a great place for students to hang out or study. The staff were nice and I'm giving the place the benefit of the doubt, so I'm giving them a 3. Maybe their food is better. And being there reminded me of my old university days - elsewhere though, since I never studied at Carleton (and I'm a sucker for nostalgia). I'm glad they were open on a Saturday. Roosters is not a place I would make a special trip to visit, but if I was on campus for some reason I would be open to going back (although I'd probably try a different drink).

From the beautifully decorated walls with cherry blossom paintings to the owner's very own toy collection (which im incredibly jealous of), my inner child was satisfied! They have very special tasty drinks and food on their menu. The bubble egg waffles are made fresh and slightly warm, pairing well with the cold scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate drizzle. The smoked salmon also was not fishy whatsoever and OUUU don't get me started on the deluxe chicken waffle sandwich. It was our first time trying it and we thought the chicken would we wrapped in an egg waffles shell, but surprise! They added a very warm and soft bread ON TOP of the egg waffle. Tbh i'm usually not the biggest fan of plain white bread and was afraid that it'll be stale or chewy, but I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this- it was literal perfection. Beyond the soft chicken, inside the sandwich has pickles, lettuce, and mayonnaise. The dirty coffee was also so YUM, but it can be pretty heavy. It's sweet from all the chocolate drizzle and slight cream on the top, but pairs well with the coffee at the bottom- just make sure that after you take the first sip, to stir well! But warning- might not be ideal for those who are black coffee fanatics and don't have the biggest sweet tooth!

I really liked the variety of coffees they offered, as well as the wide variety of interesting and enticing food. They were very accommodating in cutting the wrap I ordered in half (saved half for lunch the next day; it was quite large and chalk full of tasty ingredients!) They heated half to eat in the restaurant, and packaged the other half for me to take home. I also ordered a "Cortado" which is like a mini latte (I had never heard of it before). It was tasty but strong - would have been good for first thing in the morning to get your day started. Hubby ordered a strong regular coffee and a different wrap. He seemed to enjoy it. Together, these 4 items came to about $25.00 - not cheap. But I appreciate the fact that this coffee shop that sells Organic, Fair trade coffee also offers fresh food and sandwiches on beautifully baked bread made especially for the stores. And they offer a rewards program as well, which I signed up for. I really wish there was a Bridgehead in the "true west end" of Ottawa!

It was super cute! Not a very accessible place, but love the aesthetic. There's a green leaf wallpaper when you walk in, which brightens up the shop against the darker grey concrete floor, there's some greenery and lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling, a fluorescent "Coffee" sign in the back by the stairs with some more greenery, old comics on the table, some local goodies for sale, a rack of vintage clothes from Late Night Vintage Co. for sale with a full length mirror, and a bright orange fridge. It was brunch time on a Monday and we planned to eat somewhere in the area, but since we were already here and they had all-day breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches, and vegan quinoa bowls, we decided to get something here instead. My husband got an English muffin with egg, cheddar, and bacon. It looked great and he scarfed it down. At the recommendation of the server, I got the pesto chicken sandwich with chicken breast, basil pesto mayo, Swiss cheese, tomato, greens, and chips on house focaccia, and a cardamom tea latte. The sandwich was pretty tasty, even though I'm not normally a chicken breast person. I knew it said chips in the description, but for some reason I didn't expect them to be in the sandwich itself. It was a nice crunch, just a bit messy. It was definitely filling, it was just much greasier than I expected. Get a bunch of napkins! The cardamom tea latte was great and the vanilla syrup was a nice addition. We also got a chocolate chip cookie to split between us and our toddler (we did already have macarons, after all, but couldn't resist). It was the thin and crispy kind, but still a little chewy. It also had sea salt flakes on top so it was a good combination of sweet and salty. We left satisfied and the service was very friendly and helpful. It's right behind the Parkdale Market, too, so pretty convenient if you're in the area.

The Southwest Chicken Wrap ($9.85) was really tasty. It had pieces of chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, and corn (which I picked out, lol). It had a bit of a spicy kick, but I'd still consider it mild (or at most on the milder side of medium). The breakfast sandwich was an English muffin, cheese, egg and bacon. I like that it was real cheese and not like a processed Kraft Singles kind of cheese. Very tasty. Staff are super chill and friendly. I'll need to come back sometime to hang out.
