Being an out of towner we love coming here when visiting our family friends. This place is absolutely amazing. The owners are so sweet and accommodating. The food tastes very authentic and fresh. The prices are very reasonable. All I can say is if you're craving Mexican food you'll thank me when you pass by. The food is always fresh and very favourable. I have been a huge fan of the Cactus Rose since they were located in the caboose car in Matthews- a long time! Deborah and Patsy and all the staff are always friendly and very attentive. I have introduced several friends to the great selection of dishes at Cactus Rose. Now when they visit they all want to meet there despite their lengthy drives. Goes to show what you will do for good food! I highly recommend Cactus Rose Cafe! read more

The Cactus Rose was nice. The food was very good and the portions were generous. I had the Shrimp Fajitas and it was very good. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. My wife had the cheese Enchiladas. Also very good. The only issue I had was the service. It was very slow. It was the first day the mask mandate changed and it was busy, but our waitress was generally slow. Armed with a $10 off coupon, my wife and I decided to try dinner on a weeknight to find out for ourselves. I ordered a chicken burrito combo that was huge and loaded with shredded chicken but I found it to be pretty bland and lacking in red sauce. The cheese queso was average as were the chips and dip. My wife's tacos were okay as were the sides (beans and rice). As a matter of fact, everything was just okay including the service and atmosphere. My favorite place for A Chili Relleno they make it perfectly crispy and cheesy for a little extra you can add ground beef. Beef or Chicken Chimichanga is yummy as well. Salsa is tasty with complementary chips. Staff is hard working and friendly, and take out is always on spot. read more

We decided to try this place being a little sceptical. I mean another mexican place near la unica. When we first walked in there wasn't a pleasant greeting we were told to sit anywhere but most if the booths were not cleared from the last guests. That being said the place is very festive looking and the service was actually very good. I had the chicken burrito and my wife had an enchilada and the best chili relleno she has had in twelve years of looking for one in N.C. lol. The food was fresh and very good. They even have a full bar and entertainment. We will definitely be going back to try other dishes. read more

I had tried the Unica around the corner and it was OK but have driven past the Cactus Rose many times without stopping. Decided to give it a try this past weekend and was not disappointed. I ordered the enchilada/tamale plate. Anybody that calls themselves a Mexican restaurant should be able to do a good enchilada. They did a good enchilada. My standards are probably a little too high for tamales so I was not impressed with theirs. Good service. Good food. Reasonably priced. Live entertainment is nice but the place is a little too small to have the 'Music Man' parked over in the corner. I'll definitely be back. read more

Had been told about this little place and was very pleased with the results. We stopped in for a Margarita and some Chips and Salsa. We had Guacamole and Queso. This is actually one of the first Mexican restaurants in Charlotte. Under different names over the years but many of the recipes remain the same, in short they have been around for a reason! My family and I eat here very often, They have the best vegetarian fajita around. Loads of broccoli, mushroom, bell peppers, zucchini, and onion! They are very accommodating. They will take cheese off of anything you ask. The Chili's rellenos is also delicious. The batter is fried perfect and they actually roast the chili's like they are supposed too! You can also ask them to put a tomato sauce over them instead of the standard cheese sauce with no problem or extra cost. Their beans, rice and salsa are also very, very good! It is worth the drive to Indian Trail if you feel like getting out! My family orders the non veg dishes and loves it all. read more

Look I have never in my life left a review but the can chicken has to go. Terrible taste I mean I payed 17 dollars and left the food on the table bad. Customer service only came around to give me the TAB mind you I was trying to un choke myself with the few drops of water I had left. On top of that the lattice was probably bad. No I did not keep eating took two bites and left it where it was didn't ask for nothing free. Feel so bad for people that think this is authentic I had the tostadas. read more

Yum yum !!! This place is our "go to" when we have a craving for Mexican because the service is excellent, food comes quick, love music is great on weekends, and portions are large ! I believe our waitress was the owner several times and is very sweet. One time my husband changed his mind for a drink because he didn't like the flavor and she brought him another drink right away !!! I didn't get a chance to thank her myself but THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! Upon checking Yelp's mixed reviews - I decided to give it a try anyway. The lady at the cash register didn't offer a greeting or anything, but that's ok - no real harm done. I chose a table and a lady came by to take my drink order. After a bit, the "bartender/waitress" brought my very weak and terrible tasting margarita - they really should use a different mix. The chips and "spicy" salsa were good, and their menu offered a specific combo that I don't see too often: chili relleno, taco, rice, and refried beans. I requested extra refried beans in place of the rice, yet when my dinner arrived, it contained rice and refried beans. I pointed this out to the very apologetic waitress who offered to get me the extra refried beans but I declined. The very crunchy taco shell that was packed full was fantastic, but the chili relleno was pretty much inedible. Also, no need to worry about refried beans - they weren't good either and I dare say I can't remember ever having had "bad" refried beans anywhere. I ended up leaving most of my meal, having only finished the taco. The winners here: the hard shell ground beef taco, the "spicy" salsa, and the nice bartender/waitress. read more

Mediocre, at best. Bland food. The rice was horrible and the refried beans seemed like they came from a can. Nothing authentic about this place. I'll stick with La Unica or head down Independence to one of the other Mexican places in Matthews or Charlotte. A good, decent Mexican food joint. Real cheese, tasty salsas, jovial atmosphere, you can't ask for more. The tostada is perfect, I couldn't have made a better cheese enchilada myself.
