Started off trying to call in an order based off the online menu found on four square. Apparently that menu is totally wrong and they don't have any of that stuff - which is fine but if it's a known issue they could try to update it or take it down. Decided to just come in to eat. We were seated and the place was pretty much empty. Everything felt a little run down inside. We ordered margaritas and were told they don't serve alcohol. Our eyes glanced back at the bar area up front and realized the shelves are exclusively stocked with Jarritos. Chips were served but they were stale and the came with something that was more like a mild sauce rather than a salsa. The food came out surprisingly fast, like two minutes after ordering. Everything must be premade and nuked or thrown under a salamander. But to be fair, everything on the menu is super cheap and this place only serves lunch. read more

This place is garbage. I placed an order, got the confirmation and was given a delivery time frame. 2 minutes after it was supposed to arrive they canceled the order and sent a refund. I ordered takeout for lunch from Cactus Cantina a few times now. I've had the Combo Vegetariano and Veggie Fajitas. The veggie combo platter includes a quesadilla, veggie chimichanga and a bean burrito. It was all delicious, the chimichinga in particular. Since eating that in front of my friends I got a number of them hooked on the chimichangas from here. Their fajita veggies are so delicious and nicely seasoned that I don't miss the meat at all. The first time I had them the veggies were nice and crisp, second time not as much, but still very good flavor. They have a really fresh and nice guacamole that they serve on side with their meals. I was pleasantly surprised because often times unless you're ordering a fresh order. Since it was takeout I can comment on the service, it is pretty dark in there during the day so I wouldn't want to dine in for lunch. read more

What a hidden gem! Came here for lunch and I was so pleased. Now, Wilmington is not much of a food hub, so it's tough to find anything good to eat for lunch (see my other reviews). However, we hit the jackpot with this one! Service: The staff was friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Food: I got the veggie burrito and I've never been so impressed with the amount of vegetables and the way they were cooked. Usually burritos have soggy ingredients inside, but the broccoli, carrots and other veggies were nicely charred and delicious. The plate also comes with refried beens, rice, guac and sour creme. There is certainly enough to save half for dinner, but I definitely didnt do that. PS You also get free chips and salsa when you sit down so that's a HUGE plus. Also, the food was very reasonable, you can spend 10 or less per person and be very full. In summary: I will absolutely be back here for my Mexican lunch fix, you should give it a try! read more

My friend and I were finally able to eat lunch here yesterday, and we were SO glad that we did. First thing we noticed: The home-y decor and atmosphere. No frills, no obnoxious music....just some cute art on the walls and the smell of good food. Then: Delicious chips and homemade salsa. Two kinds. One that was more mild and thin, and the other with a distinctive cilantro taste. I could have eaten this as a whole meal (and I almost did!)... Next: Great prices on the menu and a huge selection. Bonus points for a vegetarian section! Yes. I ordered the veggie quesadilla and my friend ordered the chicken flautas. Unfortunately they were out of rice at the time, so they offered a side of extra beans, salad, or fries. I got the salad and she got the fries. The salad was just some fixins they would probably put on a taco, so nothing special there, and the fries were pretty basic, but still good. After that: So many bits of fab on the plate! The refried beans were very tasty (and my friend, who would know the difference, said they tasted homemade)...the sour cream was somehow better than other sour cream I've had, the guacamole was perfect as a topping on the quesadilla, and I have to say that the quesadilla was one of the best I've had, if not the best. I was expecting some onions and peppers, and what I got was a perfect amount of cheese with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, and onions. I couldn't identify the seasoning on the quesadilla but boy was it fantastic. My friend said the flautas tasted very fresh as if they were made very recently. I was a bit jealous at her ability to communicate with the servers in Spanish (I'm getting there, sort of). Last: The whole bill was under 20 bucks. We breathed a sigh of relief and satiation at that beautiful sight. I cannot believe there aren't more reviews for places like Cactus Cantina. I visit this place with my colleagues for lunch once in a while, and it never disappoints. It is reasonably priced (less than 10$ lunch), has a nice ambiance and is surely one of the best places to visit in downtown. Being a vegetarian, I am generally limited to a few options which are mostly modifications of dishes on the menu and most of the times destined to see my friends enjoy their food with me sitting with something that is unearthly. But at 'Cactus Cantina' I have 5-7 choices in the menu, and the food tastes great! The only downside is, they have only a couple of waitresses, hence if it is crowded you might wait a little longer to get your orders. But trust me the food is worth the wait! read more

And when I asked if I had the right number for the cantina, she got an attitude. When I called back, I was greeted with more attitude. Went in during lunch today and was seated. The waitress provided tortilla chips and dip and disappeared for over ten minutes, did not provide water or even ask if we wanted beverages. The dip was too spicy and caused me to go into a coughing spell. She seen I was distressed and still walked passed and didn't even ask if I needed or wanted water. Another group, of Caucasian men and women were seated beside us, several minutes after we arrived. When she did come towards us, she walked passed us and proceeded to take their order and provide water etc., like we did not exist. I decided immediately to get up and leave. I tried to speak with the manager regarding the incident and it fell on death ears; she totally disregarded everything I said as if it wasn't a big deal. I will not patronize an establishment that does not treat African American people with respect. This is unacceptable and I will ensure to tell everyone I know about this incident. read more

I've come to this lil hidden gem a few times for a quick sit down lunch and it's really yummy! The menu is giant with all the mexican fare you can think of (enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, etc.) and they provide you with really freshly made chips and salsa. There were only 2 ladies working the front of house during the weekday lunch rush-- and the food and service were still super quick! The al pastor tacos were great. The only reason for the '4' rating is because it was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant. There were ceiling fans but not in the dining area where we were seated.
