Mexican being my favorite kind of food, I obviously have to have a favorite Mexican restaurant to go along with it, and THIS is it! I've never eaten a Mexican food item that I didn't like, but there is something about the enchilada's here that have me ordering them every time I go. (Ask for the Green, or Verde, sauce, It's great!) I've been to Mexico a few times, and this is the only place in the area that makes tacos the way they are served in Mexico. I really enjoy the Pico they give you with the chips as an appetizer, it's SO much better then your typical salsa. I normally don't eat the beans you get on the side at other Mexican places, but here they are different and I actually eat and enjoy them. The service is always great, all the servers are really friendly and being that customer service is a BIG thing with me, I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience due to the wait staff. The actual look and feel of the place is very pleasant as well, the recent expansion was a huge plus which adds a lot more seating. (Although, even before that we never had a problem getting a table at our typical 5:30 dinner time, without reservations!) There has been a visible price increase within the last year, which is the only downside (and reason for 4 stars, not 5), I also think the portions got a bit smaller, but I still ALWAYS walk out of there with leftovers. My family and I visit here AT LEAST once a month, if not more, and have never had a bad meal, we love it! read more

Some of the best Mexican food in the Valley. We've always had great food here. Pico is great, shrimp taco is fantastic. Service is very good. BYOB! Make reservations Thur thru weekend or plan to wait. Wait area is very small. Wow oh wow. The Bert's Enchiladas are the kind of chicken / sour cream / verde salsa enchiladas you dream about. Absolutely perfect. Food came out SUPER fast, less than 10 minutes. Recommend a reservation as wait times for dinner can get pretty long. read more

Tried Cactus Blue after reading the reviews. I had been craving some good mexican and hoped I had finally found it. Let's just say my teen sons didn't even finish their meals and they eat everthing! I've come to learn since moving here, that the palates in this area appreciate under seasoned food and definitely no spice or heat. If that's you then Cactus Blue is the place for you. First off, I'll begin by stating that this is my first review on Yelp. As one who mostly cooks at home, it is not often we go out to eat. Although, on rare occasion it does happen. Last night was one of those occasions. Besides using low quality ingredients, and serving brown (probably unwashed/bagged Romaine lettuce) the guac was so salty that the chips tasted bland. The presentation was just as awful as the meal itself. There was an error in the specifications I had requested, and the server actually remade the food. I didn't want to make a scene as she already had seemed irritated by this mistake, and I hadn't eaten all day - so I made the best of the situation, but truthfully it didn't come out much better than the first time. Of course by the time she finished remaking it, my partner was pretty much finished with his meal. So, all in all it was just really an unpleasant experience and one I felt worth sharing. This is very much so a reminder as to why I prepare my own food and the reason we don't go out to eat often. We have been there a few times before, and it is very inconsistent, but the food and service was at its worst last night. The server definitely had a bit of an egotistic attitude, and you could feel the tension in the air when the cook came out from the kitchen into the other room. If your going to market and sell yourself as "Mexican Restaurant" at least have some honor and respect for the culture and cuisine you are profiting from in preparing the dishes with pride and dignity. Maybe the owners have been doing this too long? Maybe it was an off night? I don't know, but I do know that is the last time we will be eating there. Its such a shame that in this day and age high quality food and service are hard to come by. read more

Wish I could rate it lower. The menu items names may be authentic but the food is not. the food is poorly seasoned if seasoned at all. I personally got the trio dish to try a little of everything. I've never had blander dryer chicken than that which was in my enchilada. It was not awful just not worth the $16 dollar price tag. Some benefits of this place is they do byob they do make a margarita that u can add tequila to. Aside from that and the service the food was a solid bore. Chipotle hands down makes better food n that's scary considering its far from Mexican. I went with 7 people and not one person said "this food is delicious", or any positive response. Since we were in the area, we decided to go to Cactus Blue on Friday evening at around 9:00 pm since we had a Groupon for $60 that could be used, as long as it was for a party of 4 or more. There were a total of 7 of us, 3 adults, and 4 children. Most of our party had eaten dinner earlier, so we order a few appetizers to share, and 2 entree's for the 2 adults who hadn't eaten dinner yet, along with some fried ice cream for dessert. The food was excellent, and throughout the meal, the service was satisfactory. When the waitress brought out the bill, it was for $74 and change, so we presented the Groupon, and provided a debit card to pay the ~$14 difference. When the waitress brought out the receipt, I noticed that $32.50 was charged on the card. After looking at the bill that came out with the credit card slip, I noticed that it had changed from a party of 7 to a party of 8, and subsequently was charged $15+ for 20% gratuity. First off, I do not believe this is legal, as the waitress adjusted the party size because she thought she was going to "stiffed or slighted" on the tip. The irony of it is we already had $18 laying on the table as a cash tip based on the ~$74 bill we had received, but needless to say, the cash was taken back. The waitress ending up "slighting" herself, and because of her actions, Cactus Blue also lost a customer. We were very disappointed in her unethical actions. read more

I totally disagree. This Restaurant does not serve authentic mexican food. In fact we were very disappointed. The food was over priced and tasted very fake. The rice looked like parboiled rice with salsa thrown in it. The black beans were flavorless. Please trust me there are other mexican restaurants out there with much better food. I recently moved back to the Allentown area from Phoenix, AZ. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and I decided to give Cactus Blue a try. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered chicken enchiladas, which is typically a pretty difficult dish to mess up, not for Cactus Blue. The dish tasted horrible. I took one bite and couldn't eat them. The chicken was not seasoned, the sauce tasted like tomato sauce with no Mexican seasons. The beans were burnt and both the rice and beans tasted like they were from a can. The only thing that seemed to be made fresh was the guacamole. This was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Stay away! A good place that has some Mexican options in the area is Mi Tierra in Easton. I highly recommend their Carne Asada, it was just like the southwest. read more

"Worst Mexican ever " I don,t know, maybe I'm spoiled, coming from Providence where the food is great just about everywhere. In Bethlehem on business, Blue Cactus was close. Mistake ! Best thing on the plate was small dish of black beans. Spanish rice, salty as the ocean. We were a party of eight that stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. We were seated immediately, even though two of our guests had not arrived yet. The six of us ordered our drinks and they were served with chips and home-made salsa. Both the chips and the salsa were very good. The salsa had a bit of a "kick" to it however it was not too spicy. When our other two guests arrived, our server promptly took their drink orders. Once everyone had their drinks, our server took our orders. We all ordered a variety of items, such as: Tamales, Flautas, Burrito Blue and Ensalada Taco Blue. Once we received it, everyone raved about their food. Since the dishes were so plentiful, almost everyone had food to take home with them. Unfortunately everyone was too full to try any of the desserts that sounded so good. The only thing that we did not like was that the server gave himself an automatic 20% tip. This takes away the meaning of what a tip is, when someone else decides for you what they should get. Luckily he did a very good job serving us, so we let it go this time. Maybe he did this was because we were such a large group. The mistake that he made was that he included the tax amount to calculate his tip and you should never, ever tip on tax! read more

I am not mexican so I cannot say if this place is crazy authentic but all I can tell you is that it's a great restaurant! I go to cactus at least once a week for lunch and I have never been disappointed there I always get their chicken tacos and they're always delish their chips n salsa are amazing plus it's a byob! The food was very authentic. Service was slower than I would like, but the place was packed for lunch. The Lunch Menu is very economical for the amount of food received. Three of us ate there with drinks and appitizer for under $40 with tip. The flautas were great and the homemade chips and salsa ws perfect match. Will go again. read more

Waitress super slow.....served drinks and then walked past us no less than 5x in 15 min without acknowledging us. Walked out and called owner. He didn't seem to care. I really wanted to go here for a second time however the gentleman who answered the phone to take my reservation was very unpleasant. The restaurant opens at 11:00 AM and I called at 11:30 AM; I assume his rudeness was not due to him having a tough work day. I am a big tipper who is also big on service.
